Best in Show
My thanks go to the Scottish Club for inviting me. It was a real Honour
Judging best in show. I had the enjoyable task of putting my hands on
some promising dachshunds. All the exhibits I judged showed excellent
temperaments. All had good mouths with correct dentition. I judged the
Dachshunds according to the Breed Standard, once again this is open to
ones interpretation. Having read this with my beady eyes I can only say
that this is not a brand new breed standard but one that has only been
tweeked here and there .In my view construction and soundness are
paramount, I looked for a well balanced hound that looked like a hound,
by that I mean one with bone and substance. While I agree that the
health of any animal is vital I also feel that we should not loose sight
of the type we breed in the UK. With this in mind my decisions were as
follows. Best in show Blackburns Stargang Crusoe.Beautiful young male.
The most eye catching head piece, correct almond eye, black as coal as
in keeping with his colour. Loved the bone and substance on this young
hound, beautiful feet thick pads with short toes. Soundest of fronts,
elegant neck running into well laid shoulders. Firm topline held
correctly at all times.well made rear with good angulation. This young
miniature wire is also blessed with the most fabulous jacket. He was
well presented and handled well on the table, he is well up to the task
of being what a show dog requires. He moved out smartly with verve and
drive, a very exciting future must lay ahead for him. Reserve Best in
Show Hunts Carpaccio Congnac Diamond. Chocolate and Tan Smooth Haired.
Ultra feminine head with correct pigmentation for her colour. Correct
mouth with good size teeth. Graceful neck well filled front, presenting
a good even front on the stack and on the move. Topline held well when
standing and moving. This young bitch shows great forward reach when
moving really reaching out in front. Handled to get the most out of her.
Carpaccio Congnac Diamond was also Best Puppy In Show. Reserve Best
Puppy in Show Mitchells Bronia Mr Pepys Standard Long Haired male. The
most beautiful red. Loved the arrogance on this youngster. Correct
almond shaped eye good mouth, well boned with grand feet, soundest of
fronts well made rear with enough angulation. Kept a good outline at all
times, showed steadily throughout. Many thanks to my fellow judges
sending through such good examples of our breed.
