DACHSUND (MINIATURE SMOOTH- HAIRED)

A good entry on paper but not many on the ground, however, I felt that the quality was there. In the line up for best of breed thought that I had two of a kind, masculine and feminine and I liked both of them a lot, both youthful, but the bitch just a bit less finished. I wish them both well for the future. It was a real thrill watching the Group.

JUNIOR DOG (4 entries, 2 absent)

1st Hunt’s CARPACCIO CAPTAIN SCARLET- a really lovely shaded red young male with a clean, tapering head and dark correctly shaped eyes. I thought he had a super front with a prominent breastbone, enough depth of chest and plenty of bone into strong feet. He appeared balanced both front and back and unexaggerated, in lovely bloom. His topline was held well on the move  and his ground clearance gave him plenty of  room to move freely. Indeed he was striding out very well today, though he does have a tendency to flick his front feet, and was Best Dog,  B.O.B. and  subsequently Hound Group 2, very well done. 2nd Andison and Peel’s CLENTRY BLACK PUDDING- another lovely young dog in absolutely tip top order, black and tan, and really gleaming. He also had a well proportioned head and correct dark eye, clean neck and well held topline, moving and stationary. He strode out well too and moved parallel. Had a bit less front and slightly longer in loin than I would have preferred but will have his day I’m sure. R.B.D.

OPEN DOG ( 1 entry, 1 absent)

PUPPY BITCH (2 entries, 1 absent)

1st Andison and Peel’s WITCH OF THE EAST AT CLENTRY, NAF – truly cracking little red bitch with so much aplomb for such a youngster. Head and skull of correct shape , beautiful eye and expression, so feminine, but with strength and bone. Great proportions and balance, her shoulder and hind angulation seemed right and her head carriage and outline were great to see and seemed to flow, moved beautifully. In serious contention for B.O.B. but still obviously a baby. B.B., B.P. and B.O.S.

JUNIOR BITCH 1ST Hunt’s CWMDARHIAN CARRY ON CLEO AT CARPACCIO- black and tan, compact bitch with lovely eye and strong jaw, well boned and with good forechest, a bit too much dewlap for me though. Moved out well. R.B.B.

2nd Andison and Peel’s CLENTRY DESERT ORCHID- shaded red  with well proportioned head, good eye and clean muscular neck, good ground clearance and fairly strode out. Got totally fed up and hunched her back in the end which gave me no chance for a proper final assessment sadly.
