I enjoyed my day judging the Min S/h & sincere thanks to the committee & my steward, for their hard work in organising such a successful show. Thank you also for bringing your lovely Dachshunds for me to judge. Some decisions were very tricky & thanks again for accepting my decisions. Many will change places regularly I am sure. Altogether I found there were some excellent specimens of our lovely breed, & there was quite a variance in type. Hind action was not as good as last time I judged, & also high stepping front action seems to be creeping in. I was well pleased with my winners & also thought the dogs in the challenges looked superb as they went around, & I was especially pleased with my top winners. Soundness & type & correct movement were uppermost in my mind throughout, & it helped greatly to have my photos for writing this critique.

MPD (5) 1 Andison & Peel’s Bronia Jeremias, b/t, best of heads & front assembly, with correct layback of shoulder, & superb ribbing. Sound underline, & well angulated quarters. Moved truly in both directions, keeping his outline throughout. Good feet & bone. Loved his type. BPD; 2 Callow’s Garthorne Gavin, most of the same comments apply to this lovely b/t boy, with good head & front construction & lovely ribs. I just preferred the overall outline & tailset of 1 on the move today; 3 Blackburn’s Stargang Whipoorwill. PD (1) 1 Ergis’ Siouxline The Musketeer, quality red puppy, with good head & neck & so well ribbed, & plenty of substance. Just didn’t move out as freely as the minor pup in the challenge today, as he went around. JD (2) 1 Phillips’ Stargang Devil May Care of Robinswood, quality s/r, & again plenty of substance here, with super head & neck, excellent oval chest & ribbing, & although he was true going & coming , he was a little tucked up underneath on the move today, & was perhaps feeling the cold. YD (2) 1 Shutt’s Donnadoon Waterloo Sunset, really nice s/r, correctly put together in all departments, with excellent shoulder layback & super ribs & sternum. Angulation matched both ends, so he had a lovely profile on the move & drove around so well. So full of enthusiasm, just some steadying & a little practice, & he should go far; 2 Starkey’s Carpaccio Just My Luck with Hamoura, quality s/r, nice dog, with good head & ribbing. Not quite the angulation at both ends as 1 had, & consequently did not move out as freely going around. PGD (2,1) 1 Phillips’ Arbennick St Thomas of Robinwood, nice b/t, with lovely head & ribbing & shoulders, excellent topline. Would just prefer more length in lower thigh to give him better angulation & more drive on the move. LD (5,1) Good class of quality dogs here. 1 Callow’s Garthorne Jackson, classical b/t, lovely type, & plenty of bone. He had a good head & eye & correct lay of shoulder. Well ribbed, super underline, & with sound hindquarters, he moved so well, both coming & going & kept lovely profile at all times. RCC; 2 Prothero’s Royalmaple Andy Panky, quality s/r, different type from 1, with good head & neck & lovely ribbing. He also showed so well as he went around, I just preferred front movement of 1 on the move today; 3 Melbourne & Houldsworth’s Melriding Perkin Warbeck. OD (9,1) Some top drawer dogs in this class, making some decisions quite difficult. 1 Barrett’s Ch Ayseebee Rumour Has It, b/t, correct, balanced & compact overall, nicely boned & of good type, I was impressed with this dog. Super head & eye, which led to correct shoulder placement, with tight elbows & good oval ribs. He had nice angulation, firm quarters & covered the ground well, & looked very pleasing in profile, moving truly both ways, & stood out in the challenge. Pleased to award him the CC; 2 Hunt’s Ch Carpaccio Casablanca, b/t, worthy champion, most of the same comments apply , as I really liked him, as he is a lovely dog, & his head shoulders & ribbing are so well constructed. His angulation matched both ends, & looked good on the move, just preferred the profile of 1 on the move today; 3 Ergis’ Ch Siouxline Flynn Rider. VD (4,2) 1 Herrington’s Ch Kathington Coeur De Lion, lovely well marked b/t, 8 year old, who was shown so well today, in tip-top condition, & who was correct in all departments. Have met him before & on that occasion, gave him his crowning CC. Led the challenge off today so smartly, & showed them how it’s to be done. BV; 2 Nolan’s Kelmbeck Lord Of The Dance, b/t, quality boy,7 year old, showing well with excellent head & front. Beautifully ribbed, he looked well going around, but just preferred the overall proportions of 1.

MPB (12,4) Some very nice puppies in this class. 1 Price’s Samlane Desdemona, top quality red, with correct head, well angulated shoulders, good prosternum & super ribbing. Compact & balanced, with well angulated quarters, she moved truly in both directions, keeping her good outline. BPB & BP; 2 Donnadoon Dreamdust, super brindle pup with all the essentials, showing lovely head & reach of neck, excellent front & shoulders. As he bodies up, will be an exciting prospect for the future; 3 Hunt’s Carpaccio Scarlet O’Hara. PB (4) 1 Swingletrees Star Arno Dahl, well constructed quality b/t pup, with lovely head, excellent front & shoulders, & with good sound quarters, correctly angulated. Moved well, very nice pup; 2 Hepinstall’s Kireton Frou Frou, another quality b/t baby, who had an excellent front & was well ribbed. Not exaggerated in any way, as she matures, should do well. Well handled; 3 Andison & Peel’s Clentry Knockando. JB (5,1) 1 Ergis’ Siouxline Ester Rose, a very nice red compact bitch, who had a good head & eye, with correctly angulated shoulders, a good prosternum, & so well off for ribbing. She presented a super outline on the move & moved round so well; 2 Lambardelli’s Kelmbeck Kaiserin, b/t, another nicely balanced little lady, with super head & neck, leading to a correct front & sound ribbing. She had good angulation on her quarters & moved well around the ring; 3 Blackburn’s Stargang Fallen Angel. YB (3,2) 1 Lambardelli’s Kelmbeck De Montespan of Melriding, quality b/t, with nice head, correct layback of shoulder, super front & well ribbed. Moved well around ring, keeping her outline. PGB (2) 1 Melbourne’s Stargang Glimmer at Melriding, b/t of lovely type, with correct head & neck, super shoulders & ribbing going well back. Not overly long in loin, her quarters were firm with correct angles & good feet which enabled her to move freely, especially in the challenge. RCC; 2 Donnadoon Tiger Feet for Dorenian, compact b/t who was well shown, & had correct head, neck & front, & was nicely ribbed. Moved well around the ring. LB (10,3) 1 Kerry’s Kireton Cici, nice. Lovely quality b/t, who was well blessed in all departments. Lovely type, super front & ribbing, with firm quarters & strong hocks & it was her strong movement as she drove around that won the class; 2 Burton’s Swingletrees Xtravaganza, b/t, another quality bitch & similar comments to 1 apply, as she too had an excellent front & good quarters. Just preferred the extra extension on the move of 1 on the day; 3 Salisbury’s Brocklewood Black Rose. OB (8,3) Some beautiful bitches in this class, making some hard decisions. 1 Callow’s Garthorne Miss Toffee, a lovely compact balanced s/r bitch, who had all I was looking for. She had the best of head & expression, nice reach of neck, super prosternum, correct shoulder angulation with oval ribbing extending well back. Not too long in loin & with good angulation on her firm quarters, she drove so well with ease around the ring. Correct feet & nicely boned, I loved her & pleased to award her CC & BOB; 2 Ergis & Melbourne’s Ch Siouxline Rapunzel with Melriding, another lovely bitch who is a worthy champion. She had a beautiful head & superb front construction & was so well ribbed. Difficult decision but I just preferred the drive of 1 on the move; 3 Paget & Carroll’s Bronia Maddalena of Marvale. VB (3,2) 1 Walker’s Brianolf Mystical Gem for Dorenien, nice veteran, with correct front construction & excellent ribbing. Moved out well in the challenge.
