Many thanks to the committee of the Miniature Club for inviting me to judge at their lovely show and to the exhibitors for giving me a super entry of nearly 100 to judge. Generally most were presented in a clean and tidy order, although I was shocked to see some with dirty teeth even in some of the younger classes, this isn’t just unpleasant to see but isn’t healthy for dogs to have dirty teeth. A few things really concerned me, several had kinks or thickenings in tails, the tail is a continuation of the spine and any irregularities in the vertebrae should be bred away from in my opinion. The majority of the entry had very short ribbing with coinciding sternums that stopped just between the front legs, how breeders expect their backs to be sufficiently supported with such short ribbing is beyond me. In my opinion this is something that needs addressing in the breed as a matter of urgency. The other issue which wasn’t a welfare concern at all was the size of some exhibits, no dogs were thin or overweight for their size however of the dogs present 20% were over the desired maximum of 5kg, and that doesn’t include any that were only over by just a small amount. I am not at all bothered if they are slightly over, but when some are half a kg or more over then that for me is too much. Weight only affected my placings in 1 class where a beautiful exhibit was in my opinion just too much over to receive the award their conformation deserved. Breeders should be breeding for dogs that fit the breed standard and that includes breeding for the correct size.

Veteran D/B – 2 entries (1 absent)

  1. Kent’s CH Barratini Jeeves at Lokmadi JW – B/T male who was in super condition and his love for showing is evident all the time. Excellent head and neck, good front, correct topline which he holds all the time. Sound on the move. BVIB and lovely to see him win BVIS.

Minor Puppy Dog – 6 entries

  1. Coxon’s D’Arisca Danish Diplomat – Loved this red boy who, in my opinion, oozed correct breed type. Excellent head and neck, good front and rear angulation. Moved out well showing sound parallel movement with plenty of rear drive. Considered strongly for RCC, BPIB and RBPIS.

  2. Mitchell’s Bronia Stefano – Not as mature or together as 1, but a lovely puppy none the less. Loved his head, excellent neck and front construction. Super temperament. As you would expect at just 6 months needs to tighten on the move but will be one to watch as he matures.

  3. Phillips’ Stargang Devil-May-Care of Robinswood

Puppy Dog – 7 entries

  1. Shutt’s Donnadoon Waterloo Sunset – 10 month red dog of a good type, looked a picture stacked. Excellent head and neck leading into a well constructed front. Could use longer ribbing. Very good rear angulation which he used well on the move when he settled.

  2. Phillips’ Stargang Devil-May-Care of Robinswood – another who looked a picture stacked. Lovely head and neck. Shorter in ribbing than I would like. A touch narrow coming and going.

  3. Scott’s Wolferlow Will Scarlet

Junior Dog – 2 entries

  1. Protheroe’s Royalmaple Anky Panky – Red dog who excelled on the move. Good head and neck, excellent front construction, good rear. Was roaching slightly when stacked but he relaxed on the move.

  2. Oakley & Pearson’s Travellers Joy at Ardenrun – nice brindle dog of a good type. Excellent head and neck, good ribbing. Correct top and under line. Moved well in profile but was a little wide coming towards me.

Yearling Dog – 5 entries

  1. Hunt’s Carpaccio Casablanca JW – B/T of excellent type, more compact than 2 which I prefer. Excellent head and front construction. Slightly short in upper arm, but good length of ribbing which gave him the correct top and under line. Excellent rear assembly which he used to move well around the ring showing good drive from the rear. Very showy dog who pulled out the stops in the challenge to beat the lovely MPD for the RCC. Well done.

  2. Coxon’s Distinctly So D’Arisca – Lovely dog who was close up to 1, slightly round in eye for me, but he has an excellent front with a better length of upper arm than 1 but not the length of ribbing. Well angulated rear. Excelled in profile movement but would like more parallel hind action.

  3. Williams’ Wilmerella Wells Fargo

Post Graduate Dog – 4 entries

  1. Parish’s Melriding Lambert Simnel at Garlandelms – 2yr old red with the best overall construction in the class. Moved out well. Would prefer a better shaped eye and longer upper arm but overall a nice dog.

  2. Phillips’ Arbennik St Thomas of Robinswood – Better in head than 1 but not the profile movement as he didn’t extend as much either end. Could use more confidence.

  3. Rudkin’s Dynastydax Secret Agent

Limit Dog – 6 entries

  1. Barrett’s Ayseebee Rumour Has It – Very smart compact B/T dog, good head but slightly round in eye for me. Good length of neck leading into good shoulders. Correct top and under line. Good rear angulation which he used very well on the move.

  2. Melbourne’s D’Arisca Flaunt It at Melriding – Red with a lovely head and eye, good neck, well placed shoulders but lacking a bit in upper arm. Correct rear, moved soundly.

  3. Laidlaw & Bunce’s Russteck Figgy Duff

Open Dog – 8 entries (2 absent)

  1. Ergis’ Siouxline Aaron JW – Lovely red dog with an excellent head and neck, very balanced front and rear. Super on the move showing excellent extension both ends and true coming and going. Delighted to award him the CC and BOS.

  2. Coxon’s D’Arisca Prince of Darkness at Ambreglo – Another lovely dog of super type. Good head but would prefer a better shaped eye. Strong neck leading into well placed shoulders. Excellent rear angulation which he used to benefit on the move.

  3. Paget & Carrol’s Bronia Valente of Marvale

Minor Puppy Bitch – 9 entries (2 absent)

  1. Blackburn’s Stargang Fallen Angel – Beautiful head and front assembly with a good length of upper arm. Better length of ribbing than 2. Excellent on the move for one so young. Sure to do well as she matures. BPB.

  2. Coxon’s D’Arsica Danish Delicacy – another lovely puppy and close up to 1, litter sister to BPIB and a lot of his qualities apply to her as well, she’s just not as mature at the moment. Preferred the head and eye of 1st.

  3. Melbourne & Holdsworth’s Kelmbeck De Montiespan

Puppy Bitch – 5 entries (1 absent)

  1. Hunt’s Carpaccio Blithe Spirit – 9 month old elegant b/t with a lovely head and neck. Good front and length of ribbing. Held a nice shape on the move, not as settled as she could have been.

  2. McLennan’s Russteck Currant Bun at Cheguevar – Another with a lovely head, good front assembly but less length of ribbing than 1. Moved well showing good drive from the rear.

  3. Protheroe’s Royalmaple Beryle The Peril

Junior Bitch – 8 entries (2 absent)

  1. Paget & Carrol’s Wilmerella Secret Liaison with Marvale – Excellent compact bitch of a lovely type. Good head and front construction. A little round in eye for me. Good length of ribbing. Correct hind quartyers. Moved out well showing good reach and drive.

  2. Blackburn’s Stargang Moon Magic – This beautiful girl caused me such a dilemma, very much a standard in miniature. Excellent head and neck leading into well placed shoulders with a good length of upper arm. Good length of ribbing and correct rear. Lovely on the move showing correct forward reach and drive from behind. When I first saw her enter the ring thought she would be very hard to beat but unfortunately there’s just too much of her for me.

  3. Melbourne & Holdsworth’s Stargang Glimmer at Melriding

Yearling Bitch – 7 entries

  1. Muggleton’s Mosiarto Miss Calculate – Lovely red bitch of quality. A touch plain in head but good length of neck leading into well angulated shoulders. Excellent ribbing giving her the correct top and underline. Super rear, moved out really well showing good forward reach and drive from behind. Very close up in the challenge.

  2. Melbourne & Holdsworth’s Stargang Sea Fever at Melriding – Another lovely bitch who wasn’t making the most of her chances. Good head and front, good length of ribbing. Moved out well.

  3. Paget & Carrol’s Bronia Maddalena of Marvale

Post Graduate Bitch – 11 entries (4 absent)

  1. Stokes’ Webbers Swansong – Elegant B/T of lovely type. Lovely head and neck, good front and length of ribbing. Balanced rear angulation. Very good on the move.

  2. Oakley & Pearson’s Ardenrun Valentine’s Day – Brindle bitch of good type, excellent head and front. Sound rear, moved well.

  3. Scott’s Wolderlow Mary Quant

Limit Bitch – 14 entries (5 absent)

  1. Paget & Carrol’s Bronia Vittoria at Marvale – Loved this compact red who is an excellent type. She has correct proportions and super ribbing. Correctly constructed fore and aft which showed in her lovely movement. True coming and going and showing the correct reach and drive in profile. Not the most elegant of bitches but so well made and looked like she could work all day if required. Loved her. CC and BOB

  2. Ergis & Melbourne’s Siouxline Rapunzel with Melriding – Red who was very close up to 1 and has a more elegant head but a touch less ground clearance which cost her the class. Excellent type, good length of neck, lovey shoulders and ribbing. Lovely on the move. RCC and RBOB.

  3. Muggleton’s Mosiarto Miss Understood

Open Bitch – 7 entries (1 absent)

  1. Ergis’ CH Siouxline Aurora JW – Red bitch of good type, moderate all through. Soundest on the move in this class showing good drive from her lovely hind quarters.

  2. Williams & Moes’ Picollo Teckel Gothika (IMP) – Dark brindle bitch of an elegant type. Lovely head and neck, good front assembly. Not in her best coat today.

  3. Blackburn-Bennett’s Stargang Serena’s Song
