I was delighted to have a good entry of
Miniature Smooths and some well-filled classes, where some good ones had to
go cardless – especially in the higher bitch classes. I was concerned to
find a number of incorrect bites and several with missing incisors,
especially in the younger classes – males in particular. I found several
where the incisor next to the canine was very small, and often out of line
with the rest; also missing incisors on the bottom jaw, which was often weak
and narrow. I also found several level bites, one of which verged on
undershot. Sadly my usual moan about extremely long nails and filthy teeth,
there really is no excuse whatsoever – and believe me I heard many! If your
dog’s nails are too long, in some cases resembling those of a Parrot, the
arch in the toes collapses; the feet spread subsequently give you weak
pasterns, which affect topline and movement. Dog showing is now expensive,
please ensure that your dog is in a clean, hard condition with short, strong
nails and clean teeth to give it the best chance of being placed. I was
extremely pleased with my Class winners and my CC and Res CC winners and
delighted to find my Bitch and Reserve Dog CC were litter siblings, and also
my Dog CC and Res Bitch CC were also litter siblings. The breed, I’d say, is
in a pretty good place, and it was nice to hear applause and to see many
more young people coming into the breed which bodes well for the future. SBD
(4,1) 1 Wilkinson & Wakeham’s Bronia Gabriel for Wakywilks. Smart red dog
who I really liked. Super head and neck, plenty of length and strong loin.
Houndy and strong and moved out really well here, very tidy in front. 2
Beer’s Lowrider Good Heart. Red dog who scores in head. Taller and less
angular than 1 and not yet as positive on the move. 3 Horridge & Talbot’s
Winlaton Valentino. MPD (6) 1 O’Connell’s Rijobeau Rumours. Really smart and
neat black & tan of nice size, wont be a big one. Raw but has it all to
come, he’s so well made with a cracking outline. Very sound and positive on
the move, just needs to strengthen but will have a bright future I’m sure. 2
Russell’s Russteck Red McGregor. Red dog of super type and well made all
through. Despite being a little overawed he moved out well here, nice puppy!
3 Gittins’ Boomerloo’s Robin. PD (10,3) 1 Melbourne, Paget & Carroll’s
Melriding Black Tom. Raw black & tan youngster but full of promise. He’s
long, low and level but not exaggerated in any way. So well constructed all
through he can only get better, and will I’m sure have a great career. Put
down in clean, hard condition. One to watch. 2 Wilkinson & Wakeham’s Bronia
Gabriel for Wakywilks. (winner of Special Beginners Class). 3 Spencer’s
Lokmadi Sandstone at Bannonbrig. JD (5,3) 1 Magri’s Rozamie Red Corvette.
Rangy red dog, looking very much at the teenage stage here and needing to
settle in topline, but moved out soundly to win this class. 2 Carey’s
Shantallah What A Lark Around Debbiejay. Shaded red dog of decent type but
needs more body and condition on him. ND (6) 1 Wilkinson & Wakeham’s Bronia
Gabriel for Wakywilks. 2 Woods’ Bronia Gaspare. Shaded red dog shown in
super condition but not the driving movement of 1. PGD (2) 1 Magri’s Lokmadi
Call Me Louis Rozamie. Brindle dog who wasn’t really in the mood today!
Moved soundly at his own pace. 2 Herald’s Sonorra Dark Treacle at
Winterfield. Black & tan dog, not as tidy in front as 1 and needs to body
up. LD (4) 1 Williams & Moes’s Cwmdarhian Joe Calzaghe. Outstanding black &
tan dog who has the full package. Fabulous for type being a true hound but
with elegance and so very well presented, in gleaming condition. Excellent
head, reach of neck and a neat front with sternum well-back. Good layback of
shoulder, well-ribbed with short, strong loin and well-angulated rear. Moved
like he was on rails with terrific reach and drive, firm topline at all
times. No hesitation in awarding him the CC, the first of many I’m sure. 2
Coxon’s D’Arisca Dinner at Eight. Really smart and sound black & tan dog of
different type but so well-constructed and sound all through – and typical
of this long-established kennel. Super front assembly and well-ribbed with
correct shoulders, sound and true on the move. 3 Band & McCarthy’s Carpaccio
Red Alert for Essandsee. OD (10,5) 1 Paget & Carroll’s Marvale Firecrest.
Cracking shaded-red dog of super type, houndy all through with a fab head.
Correct front & shoulder, well-ribbed and strong, driving rear which he can
certainly use on the move, presenting powerful, driving movement. Presented
in superb order and lovely condition, I liked him very much and was pleased
to award him the Reserve CC. 2 Ergis’ Ch. Siouxline Jacob. Red dog with a
clean, smart, outline. Different type to 1, being taller and finer but
nonetheless has much to commend him, absolutely sound on the move. 3
Fossett’s Ch. Lokmadi Sand Dollar. SBB (7,2) 1 Corominas Ruichango Eva Luna.
A very smart, clear red bitch. Scores in head proportions, has lovely bone
and really excels on the move. Very promising. 2 Rose’s Rosencrantz Ophelia.
Black & tan bitch of completely different type, but again promising. Not as
mature as 1 and couldn’t match here on the move. 3 Herald’s Winterfield’s
Arizona Joy. MPB (9,2) 1 Muggleton’s Sweet Creature. Despite her generic
name I really liked this bitch! She’s houndy all through with a classic
headpiece and coming together nicely for such a baby. Won this class on her
free, fluid movement keeping a firm topline. 2 Mason’s Teckeltown The Show
Girl. Shaded red bitch of similar type to 1 and similar comments apply. Just
a touch more length to her, promising. 3 Tite’s Rijobeau Rita Bix. PB (5) 1
Cumberland’s Mumysami Beth Level of Crazy. Cracking shaded-red, maturing
nicely. She’s a true standard in miniature. Loved her head, neck & front
assembly. Good length and spring of rib and decent hindquarters. Moved so
well, really driving and presenting a correct topline. Pleased to award her
Best Puppy in Breed. 2 Muggleton’s Sweet Creature. 3 Charlesworth’s Keydax
Unique. JB (4,1) 1 Fleming’s Brogansian Gingerella. Really liked this
elegant, red bitch of super type. She’s very neat and tidy and correct all
through, and has the most super feet, thickly-padded with short, strong
nails. Really has it together on the move, which she does with drive and
enthusiasm. Well-presented and handled, destined for better things I’m sure.
2 Beach’s Beachdax Sweet Melody. Another really smart and most promising red
bitch, who pushed 1 hard here. Very similar in type, just a shade more of
her. Moved out really well, just needing to firm up a bit behind.
Well-presented and handled to advantage. 3 Reynold’s Glenariff Xtraordinaire.
NB (10,3) 1 Cumberland’s Mumysami Beth Level of Crazy. 2 Dalton’s Beachdax
About Damn Time. I really liked this smart, brindle bitch who is of lovely
type. Houndy, yet elegant with a super head, neck and front assembly. Sound
and true mover, just a little slack in underline here due to a phantom.
Presented in lovely condition, otherwise and handled really well. 3 Forge’s
Normpug Prairie Moon. PGB (13,2) 1 Bain’s Clentry Rewrite the Stars. Really
tidy black & tan bitch who I liked very much. She’s so well made all
through. What’s not to like? Free and active mover with a great topline,
looked like she could move all day. 2 Dalton’s Beachdax About Damn Time. 3
Forge’s Normpug Apricot Beauty. LB (15,3) 1 Williams & Moes’s Cwmdarhian
Cold as Ice. Absolutely gorgeous red bitch of classic type. She’s hard to
fault from her head to her tail, nothing overdone and everything where it
should be. So well-presented in immaculate order and handled to get the very
best from her. I see she’s litter sister to the dog CC winner and will, I’m
sure, gain her title with ease. Had to be content with the Reserve CC today,
but she pushed my eventual winner extremely hard. 2 Jennings’ Jenivons Miss
Marple. Really smart and elegant red bitch of similar type to 1. Correct
head, decent reach of neck and well-placed shoulders. Well-ribbed with
sternum well back and strong, powerful rear. Moved really well here with a
firm topline, just not as positive in hind drive as 1 today. 3 O’Connell’s
Hollybirch Growing Gold For Llennocor. OB (13,4) 1 Paget & Carroll’s Marvale
Sandpiper. This lovely, shaded red bitch had everything I was looking for.
She’s houndy all through, but pure class. Classic head with correct eye and
a super expression. Text book front and lay of shoulder, wonderful ribbing,
coupled with a short, strong loin. Well angulated quarters and strong hocks
which she really used to drive around the ring. The more I moved her the
better she looked. Presented beautifully and handled really well. She’s
definitely destined for the upper house, no hesitation in awarding her the
Bitch CC and later BOB. 2 Beach’s Beachdax Queen of Hearts JW. Really smart,
houndy black & tan who I really liked. Classic head, correct front assembly
and well-laid shoulders. Decent ribbing and loin, nothing overdone in any
department. Moved really well, keeping a firm topline at all times. Just
couldn’t match 1 for hind drive today but will, I’m sure, have a very bright
future. 3 Scott’s Wolferlow Blackberry Pie. VB (3,1) 1 Ergis’s Ch. Siouxline
Rapunzel With Melriding. 10 year old shaded red bitch of lovely type, put
down to the minute in super condition. Not looking half her age, still had a
lovely, tight front and a great topline, and moved really well. Pleased to
award her Best Veteran. 2 Price’s Samlane Desdemona. Smart 7 year old red
bitch who is well made all through and presented in lovely condition.
However, in true Dachshund style played her handler up a treat, clearly
wants to retire!
