Thank you to the committee of the Midland Dachshund Club for the invitation to judge miniature smooth haired dachshunds. Thank you to the stewards who assisted in keeping the ring moving along. Thank you also to the exhibitors for their entries, for the graceful acceptance of my placings and for the sportsmanship shown on the day.

All exhibits were presented to a high standard and it was pleasing to note that teeth were clean, and nails short. Breeders are to be congratulated as there are some quality youngsters coming along and this will certainly make for exciting times ahead. I felt that muscle tone was certainly much better than when I have previously judged the variety at open show level. I feel that breeders just need to be careful as some exhibits had particularly toyish heads, with large round eyes and lacked underjaw, this is not what the breed standard asks for and spoils the overall appearance. Also I noted that while I appreciate that the scales have been removed, this variety is miniature and therefore there is an onus on breeders to ensure that the variety remains as such. A lot of variation in size was apparent in some classes.

A sizable ring was advantageous while watching exhibits move, as I was looking for exhibits that could move and work as a hound should.

Veteran Dog.

1ST Beach Riowood Arizona, 7 yr old brindle male that certainly wasn’t showing his age. Was very confident and had super ring presence. Masculine head, pleasing eye with lovely neck into well placed shoulders, Good front assembly, tight feet with a good underline. Moved soundly out and back, with good ground clearance and carried a level topline at all times. BV did strongly consider this male for Res CC.

2ND Jennings Duddondaxs Judge Jude For Jenivon, 8 yr old red with a lot to like, and in great condition. Masculine head, good eye with good front assembly and correct shoulders. Tight feet, with a correct underline, ribbed right back with a short loin into well angulated quarters. Carried a level topline at all times.

Minor Puppy.

1st Small Marvale Sparrowhawk for Devondax, red/brindle a baby at just over 6 mths of age, confident, was a pleasing picture stacked and nice size. Pleasing head and eye, flowing neck into nice shoulders with a good front assembly. Adequate ground clearance and moves confidently, just needs to firm up on topline. Look forward to watching his progress.

2nd Dalton Coppers Boy, red slightly larger in type than 1 and still a raw baby, shown in good condition, with a lot to like. Good headpiece with correct eye, was confident moving today and once again just needs time to settle on topline. Preferred feet today on No 1.

Puppy Dog.

1st Ergis Brogansian Battlecry For Siouxline, 10 mth old brindle male with correct markings who has a lot to like. Beautiful head and expression with a strong underjaw, this male has a flowing neck into well angulated shoulders with a good upper arm. Nice topline, with ribbing extended well bank into strong quarters. Good feet and moved soundly with a good outline, just needs time to muscle up behind. This male I am sure will come into his own with time.

2nd Bullis, Amaffrey Sirius Black, b/t and once again an extremely pleasing exhibit and was unlucky to come up against No 1. Masculine conical head, with correct almond eye. This boy had a flowing next with correct should placement. Good front assembly, tidy feet and was

ribbed right back with a short loin, into good quarters. Correct size and looked picture on the table. Moved well however just felt today this boy wasn’t as confident as No 1 on the move.

Junior Dog.

1st Tite Rijobeau Well I Never, b/t who I am sure will have an exceptionally bright future. Correct for size and everything was in the correct place on this boy. Correct front assembly, good shoulders, ribbing right back with a short loin into well-muscled hindquarters. This boy moved sound fore and aft and had carried a really strong topline. Being really critical I would just prefer a more masculine head.

2nd Andison Stargang Whiskey Mac, red male who had a nice head, with a good eye. Looked a picture stacked today, and had a lovely head and neck, good front assembly with good length of upper arm. Ribbing could have extended back a little more to complete the picture. However moved soundly with purpose and carried a level topline.

Post Graduate Dog.

1st Metcalfe-Bilgin Metadale Aloysius, red of correct size, with good ground clearance and was not over exaggerated in anyway. Pleasing masculine head, with correct eye and ear set. Flowing neck with correct front assembly and shoulders. Ribbing well back into short loin. Moved out soundly fore and aft with correct topline.

2nd Tite Llennocor Little Red Devil, red again a nice type with everything in the correct place. Moved soundly and could not be denied 2nd place and I am sure these two males could change places. Presented and handled in excellent condition. However for me today I preferred the more masculine head and eye on No1.

Limit Dog.

1st Coromina’s Scenterbay Rafael For Ruichango, shaded red male and a quality exhibit that I considered for the Res CC. Masculine headpiece with correct oval eye. Excellent front assembly with correct shoulders. Nice tight elbows and good ribbing with a short loin into well angulated hind quarters. Moved soundly with purpose and drive and looks like a hound that could do a days work. Well handled and presented.

2nd Carey Shantallah What A Lark Around Debbiejay, red male who again was a nice type. Pleasing head and outline and was good for size. Conical head with good eye. Good ground clearance and moved soundly. Just would prefer a little more animation when moving.

Correct feet, ribs extending right back with a short loin into well angulated hind quarters. Correct underline and my hands just flowed over this male, everything was in the correct place. Moved so soundly out and back and could not be denied the CC and RBOB.

2nd Hanney-Mitchell Ch Bronia Daimmen, b/t again another quality exhibit that did not disappoint. Once again a lot of the same comments above apply to this male. Masculine head, correct eye ideal for size and type. This male had tight elbows good front assembly with a short loin into well-muscled quarters. 2nd Ch Siouxline Rapunzel With Melriding, shaded red almost 12 yrs old and a credit to her owner. Feminine exhibit with everything in the correct place, easy to see why this girl is a champion. Feminine conical head, correct eye and has a super outline both stacked and moving. Good front assembly, tight elbows and excellent bone and feet with good ground clearance. Well placed shoulders and good front assembly with tight elbows and a good underline. This lady moved out well with level topline, just preferred the rear action on No 1 today.

Post Graduate Bitch.

1st Ergis Siouxline Else Marie, b/t this is another quality exhibit who was full of breed type. Stunning feminine conical head, lovely eye and strong underjaw. Neck just flowed into correct shoulders, with that typical dachshund front. Ribbing goes right back and she has a short loin with strong hind quarters.
