East of England 2002

Dachshund (Miniature Long Haired)

Judge : Edna Cooper

I was pleased with my winners.  In some classes difficult decisions had to be made. Yet other classes I struggled to find a winner. Coats and presentation was first class. But, ribbing is still too short in most exhibits and fronts are still a problem with forward placed shoulders. Some heads were verging on the coarse side. Since I judged this variety last, I was concerned to find creams lacking pigmentation around the eye with slate/plum coloured noses. Black and creams with what I can only describe as patches of a grizzle colour in the black coat, merging into the black and cream markings, and under the eyes

MPD  (4) 1 Nortons Halunke Mister Baggins. Red of good type, kept his shape on the move pleasing head and expression, moved out well. 2 Brooks Lyndarlea Digby Boy Cream who also presented a good profile but coming and going did not look quite collected. 3 Croxfords Sandwells Cardinal at Arbroath

PD (4) 1 Locketts Ralines Royal Statesman. All male, yet still elegant. One of the best front and shoulder constructions on the day, kept his topline standing and on the move. Out moved the bitch for best  puppy. BP 2 Grahams Jadag Brookbond. Taller type lovely head and eye looked a little rangy next to class winner, should do well on maturity. 3 Rees Harvey River of Yumares

JD (7) 1 Gravers Melvalley Midnight Star. Won this class on body proportions good length of upper arm and 2nd thigh enabled him to cover a lot of ground with ease 2 Coopers Gayvilles Northern Lad at Jumanda. Nice stacked  looked a tad tall on the move, had a better head than 1 3 Weltons Chelane King of the Castle

ND (2) 1 Coopers Gayvilles Northern Lad at Jumanda

gd  (2) 1 Le Pages Rafthouse Hot Dream Avec Thelpees. Moved soundly, rather upright in shoulder, liked his well angulated hindquarters 2 Copes Jumandas Champers Charlie. Cream, front was not his fortune  head shape was correct but spoiled by lack of pigmentation around eye rims, nose was grey .

Black and tan, classy dog.  He looked correct both stacked and on the move.  Masculine head with pleasing expression, good reach of neck well angulated quarters, covered a lot of ground on the move 2 Croxfords Arbroath Mr Mackinnon JW. Red who was like 2 different dogs, he came into his own on the move, but, stacked he lost his topline and seemed to shrink into his shoulders. Sound strong hindquarters and a flat coat which showed off her shape to perfection On the move she really does motor. CC and BOB 2 Macks Topgem Louisa May.
