Dachshund (Miniature Long Haired)

 MINIATURE LONG HAIRED BITCHES:

Many thanks to the Midland for their hospitality and for the invite to judge the girls in this one of my favourite varieties. I was so pleased that all exhibits were presented so cleanly, obviously bathed and teeth so clean, no sign of tartar at all. Nails were cut well back though feet trimming still needs some attention but even I know how fiddly those little feet are to trim. The quality came through the well filled Limit and Open classes, although junior was numerically strong I found it the most difficult class to sort out. The age gap of course from 12 to 18 months does not help. I found the puppy classes slightly disappointing. As usual with any varieties, I think it is fair to say that trying to judge and be consistent to type throughout is difficult, of course you have to take the overall virtues of the exhibits into consideration, together with personal preferences and dislikes. It’s a fact that we don’t all end up with the same results but Sayer’s standard is there for us all to use as our bible, we must all look for the same blue print put together with out own little preferences. From the top classes I would have been happy to have signed several CC’s but had to be strict with myself and thank those who kept their faith in me and gave me such a strong numerical entry with few absentees. I thought it interesting that the majority entry was made up of solid colours, red and b/t’s, about half a dozen dapples and even fewer creams. Head shape I thought were acceptable still a lot of round eyes about but so few wet eyes which was good. I think fronts have really improved. Shoulders and fore chests not being too bad at all, feet are still a problem, lots of weak pasterns about. Don’t you just love to see nice tight chunky feet? Depth of ribbing really impressed me together with body condition, not one thin or under weight b to examine which is a real credit to you all but of course it’s those hind quarters. Most of the other varieties are experiencing the same problems, the lack of second thigh and being too long in the hock. When moving most seemed quite sound coming towards me and not too bad going away, though in profile there is a lack of good driving action especially from behind. I think you’ll agree that the venue was super and the lovely big ring was a treat together with the non slippy floor, of course those lines on the floor can sometimes be fun!! The referee was not needed as Mrs Haywood and myself agreed on our top awards. Our BOB was the b Lockett’s Ch Ralines Royal Acclaim. Who I gave BIS to at the Dachshund Club Ch Show only last month, we thought she looked super in the BIS ring but failed to go further. The BP winner was the d Raline’s Dumbledore. S/c/r baby who is a grandson of our BOB. Same beautiful type, really chunky chap, he went onto BPIS under Mrs Knowles.

MP (8). 1 Crawley’s Doujac Duette. Well grown 7.5 mth old b/cr, very good head and eye, ears set well and of correct length, long well arched neck leading into super shoulders, correct angles and lay back, prominent fore chest, good ribbing extending well back, correct top and underlines, tail well set and carried, nicely balanced behind, would prefer shorter hocks, moves very soundly, especially in front, well schooled promising baby; 2 Harrison’s Maxwin Come Together with Lacerking. 7 mth old red, real baby, not ready for the ring yet but promising, smaller mould than 1, but so well balanced and made all through, presents a neat picture, looks good in profile and once she matures on and gets used to the job in hand, should make an exciting prospect; 3 Collin’s Ambermist Sweet N Sour.

PB (8). 1 Norton’s Halunke Miss Elanor. So elegant, everything just flows, has the extra length and slight expression in proportions that I like, good head, long neck, shoulders are gd, leading into good legs and feet, ample ribbing, good firm quarters, moves soundly both ways, just needing to firm up in back line at times, presents an attractive picture, BPB; 2 Johnson’s Halunke Miss Angelica at Charpurdy. Sister to one, and ran her all the way, so very sound and showy, 11 mth clear red, very well presented, same remarks apply as 1, you can tell they are sisters, again needs to firm up a touch, very little to choose between these two, promising; 3 McLean’s Maxwin Lady Madonna.

JB (14). Really difficult class. 1 Buchan’s Oakboro Debonair. 14 mth b/t super type, typical head and eye, elegant neck carriage, very good shoulder placement, tight elbows, good bone legs and feet, prominent breast bone, good ribbing, firm top line and short loins, firm hammy quarters, moves soundly fore and aft, looking really good in profile, everything just flows, once she shows off her virtues with more style will be in the money, so well presented; 2 Turner’s Dacatec Dream On Baby to Rafthouse. 15 mth old cream, head angles are gd, though needs a tighter eye, good pigment, well arched neck, well angulated both ends, super bone and feet, moves out well coming and going with good drive in profile, in super coat and condition, ran 1 close, just needing to firm up a touch in backline; 3 Boyle’s Zarcrest Gold Designer.

PGB (10). 1 Poole’s Findowrie Christmas Rose. 22 mth old s/cr, so sweet and feminine, good head, enough neck leading into very good front construction, everything fits so neatly, very good feet, well ribbed, firm top line, good strong hammy quarters with enough angulation, so well muscled, has plenty of drive on the move, just toeing in a touch moving away, the typical overall picture is there to see, very well presented; 2 Dutson’s Rossglen Raschka. 2.5 yr old b/t also typical, so well balanced throughout, short coupled than 1 and not so tight in front, very good head and eye, good firm body, well muscled quarters, moves very soundly from behind, toeing in a touch in front, presents a good overall picture; 3 Passey’s Cagebrook Moon Dance.

LB (19). A very good class. 1 Mack and Dunn’s Topgem Louisa May. Just 13 mths and what a prospect! This b/t is just what I look for in a Dachshund, typical all through and so well made and balanced, real feminine head and outlook, lovely long neck which she uses on the move, first class shoulders legs and feet, well developed body for age, solid top line, short loins lead to well angled quarters with neat firm hocks, tail well set and carried, so very sound coming and going clearly showing good reach and follow through in profile keeping a super outline at all times, coat at that teenage stage, once she gets it back will go all the way with ease, RCC with pleasure; 2 Amos’s Dacatec Pure N Simple. 17 mth b/t beautiful type and so well made throughout, not as tight in front as 1 and cuts up just a shade on the move, extremely sound both ways and has plenty of drive from behind, presents a very good picture, good coat and condition, will always be in the money; 3 Palin’s Sanmiks Poison Ivy.

OB (11). Plenty of choice here. 1 Lockett’s Ch Ralines Royal Acclaim. Even at 6 yrs this beautiful s/cr is the ultimate mini Dachshund, so typical and well made throughout, from the tip of her nose to the end of her well feathered tail, she is near faultless, stacks and moves as a piece, her attitude and style adds to make the ultimate show girl, faultless coat and condition, I could find nothing to beat her today, CC her 22nd and with full agreement of my co-judge BOB on this performance still many more to come, congratulations; 2 Boyel’s Ch Zarcrest Ace Of Diamonds. Most worthy champion, 3 yr old b/t, shorter coupled than 1 but so very well made and so sound, good head and eye, super arched neck, tightest of elbows, firm body and so well angled behind, moves out well in profile keeping a firm top line, faultless presentation and showmanship, ran the RCC winner close; 3 Welton’s Chelane Bewitched. Another well made b knocking on the door.
