MINIATURE LONG HAIRED

From a fairly representative entry I unfortunately found many of the same faults prevalent in the breed as the last time I awarded CCs in this variety.  Too many were short in upper arm and narrow through the front, which was often coupled with poor hind movement showing no drive or extension.  Pigment in some exhibits was extremely poor, which is something that needs watching when planning matings.  Pale eye rims, noses & light nails are perfectly permissible on a chocolate, but certainly not on a red, cream or black & tan. Please take care not to mate chocolates or dapples to reds or creams. I think the results of such matings, which would have been unthinkable not that long ago, have much to do with the lack of true heavily-tipped shaded reds in the ring today. I only found a couple that could have carried more weight to advantage and these were penalised accordingly.  Presentation, on the whole, was of a high standard, but I was disappointed to find a few with filthy teeth and some talon-like nails, there is no excuse whatsoever for this. On a more positive note, I was delighted with my principal winners and was extremely pleased to see some super youngsters in the lower classes, puppy dog and puppy bitch being two of the strongest classes of the day. I hope my comments will be taken in the spirit in which they have been given, which is for the good of the breed.  Please remember the Dachshund, whatever its size or coat, is a hound and not a toy or utility breed. DOGS: MP (4) 1 King’s Kingsdax Chase The Dream. Well-grown black & cream with super bone, impressive head & good length of neck. Correct front with well-laid shoulders and decent ribbing. Well-made quarters which enabled him to move with drive, keeping a firm topline. Well presented in super condition. 2 Holden’s Lyndarlea Black Ace At Sengepabu. Black & cream of smaller type with less substance. Giving away a lot in maturity up against 1. A bit soft in topline here, but moved soundly otherwise. Needs time. 3 Barnsdale & Hayward-Barnsdale’s Chriskims Blaze Of Light. PD (6) 1 Boyle’s Zarcrest Ice Conqueror. Absolutely stunning shaded-cream boy of super type. Beautiful head with dark almond eye, and the blackest of pigment. Correct length of neck with good layback of shoulder.  Best front of the day with good pro sternum, plenty of width and tight elbows.  Well-off for ribbing with strong loin, super hind angulation and strong, hammy quarters. Moved effortlessly around the ring, keeping a correct topline at all times. Put down to the minute, he was my star of the day, could find nothing to beat him and was happy to award him his 1st CC and BOB. I was pleased to later see him go B.P.I.S. and I predict a bright future for this young dog, who is certainly one to be proud of. 2 Millward’s Messines Royal Acclaimation. Shaded cream dog of similar type whom I liked very much. Super head proportions with good pigment, not quite so positive in front as 1 yet but really well made all through. Stylish mover with a good topline, unlucky to meet 1 here, very promising. 3 Geeson’s Abydachs Aftershock. JD (4,1a & 1 Transferred To Open) 1 Mee’s Barlaine’s Golden Striker. Clear red who was a little apprehensive here. Neat front with good shoulder placement. Well ribbed and decent hindquarters, in super coat and condition. Moved soundly, keeping a firm topline. 2 Brooks’ Lyndarlea Atlantica. Elegant black & tan dog of nice type. Elegant head and tidy front.  Decent ribbing and well angulated rear.  Just losing his topline on the move here. ND (1) 1 Cooper’s Jealroie Sir Percival At Jumanda. Short-coupled red who was a bit narrow all through, could do with more reach of neck. Moved reasonably well, keeping his topline. PGD (2,1a) 1 Booth’s Asbach Andreas. Shaded red boy of lovely type, but again too narrow all through and could do with tighter elbows.  Moved soundly enough but would like to have seen him drive a bit more from his rear. LD (7) 1 Cawley & King’s Creekpit Black Opal At Summerview. Black & tan dog of lovely type and in fabulous condition, with super bone and substance. Houndy head of correct proportions. Good length of neck, tidy front with plenty of width. Well laid shoulders and correct ribbing and loin. Well-angulated quarters. Smart mover with good drive & extension, one to watch. 2 Roberts’ Denver Dream Lover. Cream dog, again of lovely type with a most elegant head and good reach of neck. Super ribbing and well-made quarters which he really uses on the move. Just lost out to 1 on front construction. Beautifully presented. 3 Mee’s Barlaine’s Midnight Prince. OD (4) 1 Poole’s Findowrie Skye Lord.  Red boy who has improved dramatically since I last judged him. Really honest type of dog who is well made all through. Moves with drive and extension, keeping a firm topline.  Shown in super coat and condition. Just lost out to CC winner on front construction today, but pleased to award him the Res CC and hope he gains his title soon. 2 Poole’s Finsdowrie City Slicker. Red dog from the same kennel as 1 so a real family affair in this class! Similar comments apply as he is very similar to his kennelmate. Just not quite so much of him. Excels in hindquarters, showing drive and extension. 3 Brooks’ Layways Piper For Lyndarlea. Bitches: MPB (5,3a) 1 Cawley & King’s Brynalyn Miss Icon.  Black & cream very raw at present and a little high over the croup, but has all the essentials. Moved very well for such a baby but needs to sort out her topline. 2 Charnley’s Northnook Amber Sunset. Clear red of smaller type. Not the bone of 1 and also very raw. Pigment not her fortune, which is such a pity as she is a nice stamp of a bitch. PB (8) 1 Geeson’s Abydachs Angelica. Black & cream of lovely type.  Super head & eye.  Excellent neck & shoulder placement, tidy front and good length of rib.  Super quarters with correct angulation. Moved with drive and confidence showing a clean pair of heels. In full coat and very well presented, will surely have a bright future. 2 Metcalfe’s Metadale Lallique. Shaded red, again of super type. Good head proportions with decent reach of neck. Super shoulder placement and a decent front. Well-off for rib with strong loin and well angulated rear. Moved soundly and with drive, just needs to coat in and muscle-up. Am sure she, too, will have a terrific show career. 3 Blackshaw’s Ravenways What About Us. JB (8,1a) 1 Brooks’ Lyndarlea Muffin. Black & tan bitch who impressed me with her soundness.  She has bone and substance without coarseness. Lovely head with good reach of neck.  Neat front with good pro sternum. Super ribbing and decent quarters. Moved really well with drive, really well presented. 2 Blackshaw’s Ravenways Wishin N’ Hopin. Really nice red bitch of decent type. Smaller all through than 1 but is equally well off for bone and substance.  My notes say ‘neat & tidy’ which she is!  Moved with super drive and extension when she felt like it! Obviously a bit of a madam, her handler worked hard to get the best out of her. 3 Norris’ Xemxija Star Struck At Criscan. NB (4) 1 Norris’ Xemxija Star Struck At Criscan.  Glorious red bitch (3rd in Junior). Threw away the previous class with her erratic behaviour but starting to get her act together here. Loved her for type, elegance and her terrific driving movement. Beautifully constructed with very little to fault her. She is certainly destined for great things if only her handler can get to grips with her. 2 Cooper’s Jumanda’s Holly Berry.  A very honest black & tan bitch of good make and shape. Tidy mover with good topline, shown in lovely coat & condition. 3 Dring & Harris’ Bronia Royal Rouge At Roehampton. PGB (7,1a) 1 Welton’s Chelane Pure Magic. Classy black & tan bitch with little to fault her. Excels in front construction, has super ribbing and well-angulated quarters. So sound on the move with a firm topline, would just like to have seen her moved with a bit more verve. Well presented and in super condition. 2 Norton’s Halunke Casalini. Black & cream. Not a big girl but lacks nothing in bone and substance. Well made althrough, another one who could have moved with more drive had she felt so inclined! Did enough to earn her place here though, in lovely condition. 3 Brooks’ Lyndarlea Sunset. LB (7,1a) 1 Cooper’s Jumanda’s Gipsy Silver.  Silver dapple bitch in her underwear but has nothing to hide. Not the most glamorous girl but is so well constructed she is difficult to fault.  Moved like a bomb, showing drive & extension, keeping a firm topline at all times. In good, hard condition. 2 Charnley’s Northnook Lucyanna. Black & tan bitch of nice type. Correctly constructed and moved soundly enough, but really would rather have been elsewhere I think, as she lacked animation.  Handler worked hard to get her moving, but in typical dachshund style she chose to ignore her! 3 King’s Bronia Lasting Impression With Kingsdax. OB (9,1a) 1 Blackshaw’s Ravenways Drama Queen. Shaded red bitch of lovely type.  Have watched her come up through the classes and have to say I was pleasantly surprised when I got my hands on her.  One of the few here today who was equally good at both ends. Super front with excellent shoulders, well ribbed with really strong loin and well-angulated rear. Moved with drive, showing good extension, and made it look easy.  In lovely bloom, I was pleased to award her the CC which gives her her crown.  Well done. 2 Norton’s Halunke Shallimar.  Shaded red with many of the same attributes of 1, being of similar type just a bit longer cast.  Another one who surprised me, she is so sound and lovely to go over. Moved really well with drive and extension, and put down to the minute in super condition. Pleased to award her the Res CC.  Sure she will gain her title. 3 Holmes’ Tammera Tough Of Elegance.
