I must say it was quite an eye opener, although I had a good entry of dogs to go over, the quality was quite poor. I know that many people are trying to get their dogs looking good for Crufts, so many were not in their best coats on the day. However the majority of exhibits had short upper arms, upright shoulders and lack of driving movement and this is only going to improve with careful breeding and being honest about your dogs faults when you come to breed. That said, there is no excuse for lack of muscle on a dog whatever the time of year, just because they are a small breed, they still need exercise, and this would also help improve movement. As a breed that can work I was looking for a dog with some ground clearance. I thought some of the puppies were very much ugly ducklings at the moment so lets hope that some at least will turn into swans. I found a few suspect bites.

MPD (7) 1 Wilberg’s Stargang Xecutive at Kanix, lovely head and expression, good legs and feet, nice shape, showed better on the floor and being free stood than on the table, moved well. 2 Smith’s Dunns Pitts Hot Diggity, lovely head, well off for bone, super rear angulation, would have liked more ribbing. 3 Douglas & Banks’ Torabbi Welsh Malt.

PD (7) 1 Hallet’s Loretto March In Time, lovely head, good outline, front ok, could have more sternum, good rear moved well. 2 Blackburn’s Stargang Xcaliber, shorter all through than 1, good length of ribbing, not as positive on the move as 1. 3 T Welsh Malt.

JD (3) 1 Thorn-Andrews’ Drakesleat Spaghetti Junct, good head and eye, good bone, fantastic coat, good length of ribbing. Shown in hard condition which was reflected in his sound movement. Looked the part in the line up, CC. 2 Rathbone’s Brialind Fletcher, longer than 1, which made him look unbalanced, not the confidence of 1, moved ok. 3 T Welsh Malt.

PGD (2) 1 Dunn’s Cairos Tight Lastic, good head, outline was ok, preferred his front to 2. 2 Hassall’s Cutisey Touch N’ Fly, rather upright in front, which was wide on the move, rear movement was ok, good coat.

LD (6) 1 Hallet’s Loretto Not Toknight, won this class with ease. Lovely outline, good bone, sternum could be a touch longer, good rear, covered the ground well. Well presented. 2 Armstrong’s Lauralee Welshman, heavier across the shoulders then 1, good length of ribbing, coat was ok, moved well. 3 Presnail’s Dacatec Jackoozee.

OD (5) 1 Rees’ Ch Pampalona Top Gun at Nordach, have never seen this dog look so good, lovely outline, good rear, good harsh coat, moved out well. Thought he would be my CC winner, but he let himself down in the line up by sitting down and his handler did nothing to help him. RCC. 2 Horswell’s Drakesleat Surely You Jest, Super head, I love his type, but he looked a touch heavy across the shoulders, had good length of ribbing, however he lacked the driving movement of 1. 3 Morris & Collins’ Bretarah Adagio.

MPB (8) 1 Hallett & McLeod’s Loretto Black Manna Loushe, really pretty baby, good outline, would like more upper arm, moved well. 2 Presnail’s Taree Xanthippe, lovely red brindle, good coat, nice putline, but not as positive on the move as 1. 3 Wiseman’s Forbell Vera’s Day.

PB (6) Not a great class. 1 F Vera’s Day, 3rd in previous class, would like more upper arm, lovely head, fantastic coat & moved well when she got her act together. 2 Dance’s Dacatec Mindyapeasancues Emem, heavier in front than 1, slightly shorter all through, preferred balance of 1, moved a touch wide at the rear. 3 Marka-Novaj’s Shembys Just Perfick.

JB (5) 1 Wilberg’s Stargang Magical Finnish at Kanix, lovely outline, good head & front, good length of ribbing, nice rear angualtion, moved out well. Pushed hard in the challenge but still lacked maturity, but she will get there soon. 2 Mueller’s Drakesleat I Rest My Case Rabymere, lovely head and eye, good front, rear ok. Not happy with the noise in the hall and did not give her best, which was a shame, tended to lose her topline on the move. 3 Rathbone’s Brialind Fenella.

GB (5) 1 Muir’s Aster Be You, reserve in previous class, front was ok, coat a touch soft, kept her topline on the move. 2 Rees’ Nordach April Showers, heavier in front than 1, rear ok, moved well and kept her topline. 3 Rathbone’s Brialind Evita.

PGB (6) 1 Lewis’ Nordach Chocolate Chip at Trixhund, good head, a bit stuffy in neck, good front, you could actually feel some forechest, good rear and moved well. 2 N April Showers. 3 Rowe’s Rowsetta Lois Lane.

LB (10) A lovely class, with some excellent exhibits, I feel that the first 5 could all change places on another day. 1 Hutchings & Cocozza’s Molloney Kiss Me Quick, beautiful head, front ok, good make and shape, won the class on her lovely movement. Really stood out in the challenge. CC & BOB. 2 Horswell’s Drakesleat See Voo Play, has really improved since I last saw her, similar remarks apply as 1. 3 Blackburn’s Stargang Mystical Finnish.

OB (9) 1 Mueller’s Drakesleat Molly Flour, good head and neck, into well placed shoulders, good rear angulation, kept her topline. She looked better as the class went on. RCC. 2 East’s Komombo Misty Day, similar type to 1, nice make and shape, not quite as positive on the move as 1. good coat, well presented. 3 Horswell’s Drakesleat Apple Source.
