South Wales Kennel Association Championship show Sunday 9th October 2016 Held at the Royal Welsh Showground Builth Wells, Powys.

A warm sunny welsh morning greeted me as it can be so unpredictable at this time of year. My thanks go to the society for their invitation and to my stewards who were very efficient if somewhat over exuberant at times calling exhibits and results. To all that entered a very warm thank you for your support.

Dachshunds Miniature Wirehaired

MP: 1. Kugow & Holt – Waldmeister Aldo – Promising puppy although very young he kept a very good topline nicely sprung ribs well ribbed back with enough length in loin round rump he moved soundly which won him this class and BP. 2. Jones – Carlita Marc Jacobs – of similar age not as precise on the move, just needs time to strengthen. Lovely oval chest nicely ribbed and super harsh jacket.

P: 1. Hayward – Foxearth Filharmonic – this young man has time on his side to develop and fill out. He has a hound head conical in shape giving the required almond eye. Well placed shoulders and deep broad feet keeping a good topline on the move.

Jr: 1. Stephenson – Ohotnichyi Azart Fahrenheit Von Wistex (Imp Rus) just out of puppy and still needs time to develop. Lovely harsh jacket. 2. Thorn Andrews – Drakesleat On The Nod – A fright earlier made it difficult to assess movement on this young man. A very full chest and spring of rib.

PG: 1. Howells – Fallowmill Sydney – Masculine head with dark eye giving alert expression ample reach of neck, firm level topline well developed round hind sound on the move. 2. Stephenson – Ohotnichyi Azart Fahrenheit Von Wistex (Imp Rus)

O: A class full of quality dogs 1. Hayward – Ch Foxearth Fiddler on The Roof – This male was on top of his game today and pulled out all the stops for his handler. Masculine and balanced well toned with excellent harsh red jacket. Hound head correct almond eye good strong mouth and correct scissor bit, reaching muscular neck into first rate front assembly. Firm topline held on the move well ribbed back and class hindquarters. He moved around the ring with powerful free flowing driving action and an air of nobility. CC BoB. In the group ring he impressed the group judge Nick Bryce Smith with his first rate true movement enough to award him a Very worthy Group 3 place. 2: Rose – Ch Ridanflight Ricardo – Always shown in great condition. Well furnished head with a masculine expression, strong muscular neck into well placed shoulders plenty of bone great close knitted broad forefeet, full oval chest and well ribbed back firm short loin with full round rump. He moved true both fore, aft and in profile a worthy champion. 3. Thorn Andrews – Ch Drakesleat JP Once in A Blue Moon

MP: 1. Watkins – Blackvein Jackanory – Early days for this young lady. She has the bone to build on feminine head enough length of neck into nicely placed shoulders full oval chest and keel pleasing topline round muscular rump. For her age she is at a good stage of development. 2. Jones – Carlita Vivenne Westwood – difficult to compete against others that mature earlier she is litter sister to minor puppy dog seen earlier who I’ m sure will grow on and fill out but needs time. Lovely oval chest nicely ribbed back with super harsh jacket.

P: .Hayward – Foxearth Fabracadabra – Feminine hound head with good almond shaped dark eyes well placed shoulders prominent keel with oval chest. Enough bone, deep broad feet keeping a good topline on the move. 2. Kirkwood-Emery – Helydon Jinglebells – of similar age to first and could change places on another day plenty of bone, nicely ribbed back.

Jr. Billinghurst- Drakesleat Never Say Die – very feminine girl with lots to offer, oval chest with well defined breast bone, spring of rib and strong loin round rump she moved with free flowing stride. I would prefer a harsher jacket. 2. Kirkwood-Emery – Helydon Jinglebells 3. Rose – Ridanflight Rockin Rita

PG: 1. Fulton – Bothlyn Dancing Queen – Chocolate girl with an excellent harsh wire coat. Feminine conical shaped hound head with lovely almond shaped dark eyes. Reaching neck into well laid shoulders firm topline lovely forechest and keel. Strong rounded rump on the moved, very sound. She was in for consideration of further award. 2. Marston –Teal. Lordscairnie Life of love – decent neck, good spring of rib and well back, firm level topline held on the move. I preferred the forechest on one. 3. Price – Samlane Cressida

L:1. Feetham – Kimbleholme Queen of Hearts – another contender for further award. Pleasing feminine head and expression with dark expressive eyes, correct front angulation and perfectly developed forechest, firm topline, strong loin, lovely rear angulation giving a round full rump, she moved with driving action and elegance. Topped off with an excellent harsh jacket. 2. Billinghurst – Drakesleat Mrs Shilling For Jiljac JW – On another day these two could change places. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders, sufficient keel and forechest. She lost out on coat today, on the moved she kept her topline moving straight and true both fore and aft. 3. Kirkwood-Emery – Helydon Fabulous Freya.

O: 1. Shone – Phantasia Lady – This young lady was full of herself today packed with breed character lively and courageous. Feminine hound shaped head with almond eyes dark and expressive. Correct well developed front prominent breast bone, lovely shoulder angles well ribbed back and short strong loin. On the move she was confident and self-assured holding a strong topline. She had power and drive straight and true. To complete the picture her jacket was in tiptop harsh condition. CC 2: Thorn Andrews – Ch Drakesleat Stitch In Time- Ultra feminine bitch, lovely head with intelligent expression, elegant long neck, full oval chest and enough ribbing, strength in loin and well angled hindquarters. Not her best coat on today. She moved with a free stride and power behind holding a solid topline and tail carriage. RCC. 3. Blackburn-Bennett – Stargang Walking on Sunshine.
