I would like to thank the Officers & Committee of the Southern Dachshund Association for the invitation to judge these two varieties of our extraordinary breed and for their hospitality..

In Miniature Wires, although numerically small in numbers, I found some very pleasing exhibits. Temperaments were good as was condition, teeth were clean which was a bonus. Nails in some needed attention.

In Miniature Smooths As in miniature wires some nails needed attention which resulted in being down on their pasterns. Temperaments were good with just a few fidgets!

Miniature Wirehaired

Veteran Dog or Bitch

  1. Dance’s Ch Emem Candy Sunshine – Deserving of her title and can still hold her own in the company of youngsters. Pleasing head & expression, good bone, well angulated fore & aft

with correct front assembly. Ribbing well rounded. Moved soundly. Well balanced without exaggeration. I see she is the dam of my BOB - BV

MPD (2)

  1. Hawkins’ Martinks Storm in a Teacup for Lonaza – 6 months and promising. Lovely head, correct furnishings, short coupled, correct turn of stifle and adequate bone. Moved Ok but tending to pin in when going away. Lovely temperament. BPD RBD

  2. Lewis’ Westwillow Topgear – 7 months – close up to 1, compact and well balanced. Shoulder placement satisfactory, a little short in upper arm, moved steadily. Presented a good profile when stacked.

JD(1)

  1. Furneaux’ Bassodon Sirius – Just out of puppy. Well balanced height to length ratio, has a lot going for him. Good head and expression, excellent coat with good furnishings. Correct shoulder placement, ribbing well extended with short coupling. Good turn of stifle. Time is on his side and when he bodies up, tightens and matures could fit the bill. BD

LD (1)

  1. Furneaux’ Bassodon Zugzwang – Lovely head & expression, good furnishings, correct front assembly. Good reach of neck going into well placed shoulders. Well angulated for & aft, perhaps a little short in upper arm, moved steadily and well going away. Presented a good outline when he settled. Had to give way to his younger kennel mate for top honours to-day.

MPB (1)

  1. Stewart-Brown’s Tomaculum Molly Fye 8 months Pleasing head & expression, taller than some but height to length ratio OK, good rear angulation, shoulders fair, adequate bone. She moved well keeping her topline.

PB (1)

  1. Dance’s Emem Constance Sunshine – 10 months Conformation correct all through with excellent bone, turn of stifle and front assembly. Good reach of neck going into well placed shoulders. Happy temperament. When she did settle on the move she kept her topline. Had to give way to her litter sister to-day for BPB but out of the same mold.

JB (2) 1 Abs

  1. Weeks’ Beldrew Flora at Avon Well balanced girl with lovely head, correct almond eye, good bone and angulation fore & aft, a little short in ribbing. She moved steadily but did not maintain her topline.

PGB (3) 1 Abs

  1. Dance’s Emem Summer Sunshine – 10 months - Surely the Jewel in the Crown for her owner/breeder. She ticked all the boxes and just oozed quality. Looked a picture when stacked and it was a pleasure to go over her with her super coat, lovely head & expression, correct furnishings, well arched neck going into excellent shoulders. Well extended ribbing, short coupled and correct turn of stifle. She moved soundly with drive & confidence. Definitely a star in the making. Pleased to award her BPB BP BB & BOB – Delighted to see her go BPIS. Congratulations!

  2. Mills’ Tythe Black Pearl at Oniasid – Pleasing exhibit, attractive head & expression, again one that was a little taller than some but that did not detract from her overall appearance. Good coat, adequate ribbing, shoulders OK. Front assembly was fine but felt she still needs to tighten all through and needs time. Moved well around the ring keeping a good topline.

OB (2) 1 Abs

  1. Dance’s Ch Emem Gloria Sunshine JW SHCM Another quality exhibit worthy of her title and very pleasing. Older sister to my BOB and she portrayed all the essentials with her correct conformation having super head & furnishings, well off for bone, ribbing well extended and short coupled. She enjoyed herself so much on the move that it made it difficult to assess but I am sure on another day her movement would be spot on.
