Firstly, I would like to thank the secretary
and her fellow committee members of the Ladies Kennel Association for the
invitation to judge Miniature Wire Haired Dachshunds at their Championship
Show on 11th December 2022, it was an honour do so and for their
hospitality. ‘d also like to thank the exhibitors for their entry and
allowing me to assess some beautiful examples of this lovely variety. All
exhibits appeared to be well nourished and in good physical condition, all
had a correct scissor bite and apart from two, all were 11 pound and under.
The other two exhibits were just 2oz over which was taken into consideration
when placing the class. Finally, a big thank you to my two wonderful
stewards (so sorry ladies, but I’ve forgotten your names) but you were just
amazing, very professional and efficient which enabled the smooth running of
	the ring
PD 1 Sexton and Da Silva’s, Mollony Woody Or
Won’t He At Ertekes: - Lovely example to start the day, an 8mths old dark
wild boar youngster, who is a lovely make and shape, balanced in profile and
with plenty of breed type. He has a lovely “houndy,” masculine head that is
correct in shape and proportions, a dark almond eye and a correct length of
ear leather. He has a good reach and slightly arched neck into a prominent
pro sternum, an oval fore chest that is well developed for his age that has
good width through and length of keel. His shoulders are nicely laid back
with a good spring and length of rib which is carried well back to a short
and strong loin. His hind quarters have good angulation, are broad and well
developed with a good turn of stifle and lovely “hammy” thighs that have
plenty of width and depth. He stands on good bone with neat feet and used
all of these attributes to move confidently around the ring with a free and
easy stride, elbows neatly tucked in showing reach and drive, maintaining
his top line and was true and parallel when moving out and back. He has a
lovely wirey coat which was presented in tip top condition, has a lovely
balanced outline and his fore quarters, body, and hind quarters looking as
if they were meant to fit together to complete the picture, and I had no
hesitation in awarding him the R.D.C.C and B.P.I.B. 2nd Whiting, Zoldmall-Hunter
Athos At Cragvallie (imp Hu) Naf (imp): - 9mth old wild boar coloured
youngster, slightly larger cast than 1st is quite a nice make and shape and
has some good breed type. He has a strong, masculine head that is correct in
shape and proportions, a dark almond shaped eye and a reasonable length of
neck. His front and hind quarters are fairly well constructed and angulated,
ribs were nicely sprung, but would have preferred more length, his hind
quarters are broad and fairly well developed at this stage and he has a nice
bend of stifle and deep thighs with broad and deep “hammy” thighs. He has
good bone and moved steadily around the ring, holding his top line and was
sympathetically handled to complete the task. He was presented in lovely
condition with a good wire coat and has time to continue to mature and
strengthen and hopefully with practice or attending a ring craft class will
gain more confidence when in the showring. On the day preferred the overall
type, construction and balance throughout of 1st. 3 Kilroy, Arbennik Bertie
	Delightful At Janacop.
JD (4,2) 1 Dance, Emem Solar Power JW: 15mth
quality youngster who is a lovely make and shape, balanced throughout in
profile and has good breed type. His head is “houndy” and masculine with a
dark almond eye and is correct in shape and proportion. He has a good reach
of neck, a prominent, oval fore chest that is well filled in and has width
and length through to keel. He has a good lay back of shoulder and spring
and length of ribs which are carried back to a short, strong loin and broad,
well developed hind quarters, a good bend of stifle and broad and deep
“hammy” thighs. He moved out soundly in all directions and has a good wire
coat that was presented in lovely condition as is usual from this kennel. 2
Gilkes, Dereheath Shaken Not Stired At Birichino:- Another lovely youngster,
13mth old dark wild boar, is slightly longer cast than 1st, but still has a
good make and shape about him and has a nicely balanced profile. Similar
comments regarding construction, movement and coat texture apply but on the
day, I felt that 1st was slightly more parallel in front when moving towards
	you.
PGD (5,3) 1st Coveney, Emem Django: - Nearly
2yr old, wild boar coloured male who has quite a nice make and shape and has
some good breed type. He has a masculine head that is correct in shape and
proportions, a dark almond shaped eye and a good arch and reach of neck. His
front and hind quarters are fairly well constructed, and he moved around the
ring positively with plenty of enthusiasm. He has a good wire coat that was
well presented and, on the day, I thought he was a nice honest hound with
lots of positive attributes, who appeared to enjoy his moment in the ring
and was well handled. 2 Kirkwood, Beetle Juice Vitoraz At Helydon (Czech
Imp): 20mth red dog who is a more compactly made type than 1st. He has a
masculine, houndy head that is correct in shape and proportions and a dark
almond eye. His fore and hind quarters construction is o.k but would prefer
more length to his neck and also for his shoulders to be more laid back. He
moved around the ring with plenty of drive and enthusiasm, has good bone and
a profuse amount of coat which appeared to need some attention. Today I
preferred the overall construction and balance of 1st.
LD (3,1) 1 Blacks, Bothlyn Back In Black
Bassodon: - This was a lovely quality youngster, dark wild boar in colour,
is a lovely make and shape and is built on classic lines with plenty of
breed type to present a lovely balanced profile. He has a masculine,
“houndy” head that is correct in shape and proportion with a dark almond
shaped eye and strong jaw. He has a good arch and length of neck into a
prominent pro sternum and an oval fore chest that has good width through and
length of keel. His shoulders are well laid back with a good length and
spring of rib that is carried back to a short and strong loin and his
underline balances with his top line. His hind quarters are nicely
angulated, are broad and well developed with a good bend of stifle and super
“hammy” thighs that have width and depth to them. He stands on good bone and
neat, tight feet and moved around the ring with a free and easy stride,
elbows neatly tucked in by his side, showing reach and drive whilst
maintaining his top line, was true moving out and back and he has a strong
wire coat which was presented in lovely condition to complete the picture. 2
Hawkins, Martinks Storm In A Teacup For Lonaza: Mature wild boar coloured
male, front and hind quarters construction was o.k would prefer more length
of neck though and angulation to shoulder. He moved with plenty of
enthusiasm and has a good wire coat which was nicely presented. On the day
though I preferred the overall construction and balanced outline of 1st.
	OD (5,1) 1 Pain’s, CH Ravensbeech Buccleugh:
Mature wild boar coloured hound, is a lovely make and shape throughout has
good breed type and is nicely balanced in profile. He has a strong “houndy”
and masculine head that is correct in shape and proportion and a dark almond
shaped eye. His front and hind quarters are well constructed and angulated
he has a prominent and well filled oval fore chest, good width through keel
and lay back of shoulder, a good length and spring of rib which is carried
back to a short and strong loin, and a broad and well-developed rump. He has
a good bend of stifle, with lovely “hammy” thighs that are broad and deep,
and he stands on good bone with neat feet. All of these positive attributes
enable him to move around ring with a free and easy stride showing reach and
drive, maintaining his top line, and he was true and parallel when moving
out and back. He was presented in lovely fit condition, has a good wire coat
and everything fits together as it should do, nothing is exaggerated or
overdone to complete the picture of a well-balanced hound. Pleased to award
him the D.C.C. 2nd Smith and Smith, Ch Alncroft Ivan Inkling: Another
mature, wild boar coloured hound, is slightly smaller and finer cast than
1st, but is still a good make and shape, well balanced in profile and with
all the positive attributes that make him a worthy Champion. Same comments
apply as 1st regarding construction and movement, but for me on the day I
preferred the more houndiness and substance of 1st. 3 Thorn-Andrews and
	Billingshurst, Ch Drakesleat Kumquat May.
Good Citizen Dog (1) 1st Gilkes, Dereheath
Shaken Not Stired At Birichino: - Please see comments as this exhibit was
2nd in Junior Dog and same comments apply.
PB (9,5) 1 Magri, Rozelle Roxanne Rozamie; -
This red, 9mth old bitch puppy caught my eye wagging her tail as she came
into the ring. She has a lovely make and shape and a balanced profile, a
feminine, “houndy” head that is correct in shape and proportions, a good
length of neck, through to a prominent oval fore chest which is not fully
developed as you would expect at this stage and a good lay back of shoulder.
She has a good length and spring of rib which is carried back to a short
loin, and her hind quarters are fairly well developed at this stage. She
moved confidently around the ring wagging her tail showing positive strides
of reach and drive and was sound and true out and back. She is a lovely
balanced puppy, has good foundations and just needs time which she has, to
continue to mature and strengthen into her frame B.P.B. 2 Grant’s,
Granhoward Patience: - Another lovely feminine puppy, is 7mths old and wild
boar in colour. She also presents with a good make and shape and is nicely
balanced throughout in profile. Similar comments apply here as 1st regarding
construction, not quite as confident yet as 1st, but moved steadily around
the ring showing sound and true movement and was sympathetically handled to
keep moving forward and have a positive (I’m sure this was her first show)
experience in the show ring which she appeared to have and completed “the
job”. A promising young puppy, close up to 1st and she has plenty of time to
continue to strengthen and mature into her frame. 3 McKenna, Bargeman
	Platinum Jubilee
JB (5) 1 Marston Teal, Lordscairnie Endless
Love: 13mth neat and fairly compact wild boar coloured bitch who is a nice
make and shape, is balanced in profile has good breed type. She has a
strong, but still feminine head that is correct in shape and proportions, a
dark almond shaped eye with a good reach and slightly arched neck into a
prominent and oval fore chest and a good lay back of shoulder. She has a
good spring and length of rib which is carried back to a short, strong loin,
her hind quarters are nicely angulated, broad and well developed, with a
good bend of stifle and “hammy” thighs that have width and depth. She stands
on good bone with neat feet and moved around the ring with a free and easy
stride showing positive reach and drive, elbows neatly in by her side,
holding her top line and was sound and true when moving out and back. She
has a good wire coat that was well presented and completes the picture of an
honest young bitch who is nicely constructed and balanced throughout,
nothing is overdone or exaggerated and would be an asset to any kennel. 2
Gilkes, Dereheath Just The Tonic At Birichino: Another lovely young bitch
13mths and dark wild boar, slightly longer cast than 1st, but still lots to
like about this young bitch who is fairly well balanced in profile and has
good breed type. Same comments as 1st regarding construction and movement
but would have preferred a slightly shorter length of loin. 3 Jones, Bimini
	To The Moon And Back.
PGB (5,3) 1st Smith And Smith, Bothlyn Sweet
Missy At Wistex:- 14mth wild boar youngster, who is built on classic lines,
is a lovely make and shape, has good breed type and is nicely balanced in
profile. She has a feminine, “houndy” head that is correct in shape and
proportions, and a dark almond shaped eye leading into a good reach and
slightly arched neck, a prominent, oval fore chest that has good width
through keel, and nicely laid-back shoulders. She has a good length and
spring of rib which is carried back to a short strong loin, broad well
developed and angulated hind quarters with a good bend of stifle and “hammy”
thighs that have width and depth. She has good bone and neat feet which she
used to move confidently around the ring with a free and easy stride showing
reach and drive maintaining her top line and was sound and true moving out
and back. She is a lovely, happy outgoing young bitch didn’t stop wagging
her tail when moving around the ring, was presented in lovely condition, has
a good wire coat, and is well constructed and balanced throughout. Has
everything in place for a very promising future. 2 Kirkwood, Helydon
Quickstep Queenie:- A 19mth, darker coloured bitch, is a slightly smaller
more compact type than 1st. Her head is correct in shape and proportion with
a dark almond shaped eye and her front and hind quarters are fairly well
constructed, her ribs are sprung, but could reach further back and her hind
quarters are broad and well developed. She moved positively around the ring
showing reach and drive but did appear quite narrow in front when moving out
and back. Would prefer more ground clearance and width through to her fore
	chest.
	LB (11,5) 1 Thorn-Andrews, Drakesleat Gud As
Gold: - Mature wild boar coloured bitch who is built on classic lines, has
good breed type and is nicely balanced throughout. She has a feminine head
that is correct in shape and proportions, a dark almond shaped eye with a
good length and slightly arched neck. Her front and hind quarters are well
constructed and angulated, her fore chest is prominent and well developed,
has good width through keel and a good lay back of shoulder. She has a good
spring and length of rib, a strong and short loin, hind quarters are broad
and well developed and she has a good bend of stifle and a strong thigh that
is broad and deep. She stands on good bone, with neat well-padded feet, has
a good wire coat and moved out well in all directions. R.B.C.C. 2 Sexton,
Moloney Noodle Not A Doodle: Another quality bitch, slightly longer cast
than 1st, but still is a lovely make and shape with good breed type and is
balanced throughout in profile. Similar comments apply here as 1st, her head
and eye are correct in shape and proportions, front and hind quarters are
well constructed and angulated, she was sound and true moving out in all
directions and she has a good wirey coat that was well presented. 3 Dance’s,
	Emem Letty Bee Sunshine Jw.
	OB (5,1) 1 Blackburn’s, Ch Stargang Witches
Shadow: This was a lovely class of quality bitches. A mature red bitch who
reminded me of the type of many quality bitches in the ring when I first
started showing some 18yrs ago. She is built on classic lines is a lovely
make and shape throughout, with plenty of breed type and is well balanced in
profile. Her head is feminine, but still houndy with a strong jaw, a dark
almond eye and is correct in shape and proportions and is supported on a
good reach and slightly arched neck which flows into a well-developed oval
fore chest, good width through keel and a prominent pro sternum. Her
shoulders are well laid back, she has a good length of upper arm, a super
spring and length of ribs which are carried back to a short, strong loin.
Her hind quarters are broad, well developed and angulated, with a good bend
of stifle and super “hammy” thighs that have width and depth. She has good
bone and feet and used all of these attributes to move effortlessly around
the ring showing plenty of reach and drive, maintaining her top line and was
sound and true moving out and back. She has a good wire coat which was well
presented, as you would expect from this kennel and stands four square to
complete the picture and I had no hesitation in awarding her the B.C.C and
B.O.B. 2 Thorn-Andrews, Ch Drakesleat Too Gud To Be True: Another quality
bitch, who is also built on classic lines giving her a lovely make and shape
and is nicely balanced in profile. Many of the same comments apply as 1st,
and today I preferred the more positive and free flowing movement of 1st. 3
	Jones, Bimini Chasing Moonbeams.
