It was a pleasure to judge the Smooth-Haired Dachshund entry, which offered depth of quality across both sexes and age groups. The puppies showed great promise, with several exhibiting excellent breed type and confident movement at such a young age. The more mature exhibits demonstrated sound construction and ring presence, with the Best Dog and Best Bitch both exemplifying balance, drive, and breed character. Thank you to all exhibitors for presenting your dogs in such good condition and with care. Puppy Dog (3,0); Litter brothers. 1st; Wand’s Wanderhund For My Next Trick; 7 month old dog.Well-balanced exhibit with a refined conical head, correct proportions, and a clean, slightly arched neck of good length. Scissor bite correct. Dark, oval eyes obliquely set, giving a keen and intelligent expression. Forequarters show correct angulation; a little more pro-sternum would enhance overall front assembly. Hindquarters are well muscled with balanced angulation, contributing to strong drive. Slightly long in loin but maintained a firm topline and moved out with reach and purpose, covering ground efficiently and true. 2nd; Sandell’s Wanderhund Grand Illusion; Head heavier than 1st, though still within acceptable breed type. Dark eyes, well placed, with correct pigmentation and a clean scissor bite. Good depth of chest with well-developed pro-sternum. Forequarters are sound; rear angulation lacks the balance needed for optimal propulsion. Ribbing adequate. Movement was steady and true, maintaining a level topline. Junior Dog (3,1); 1st; Hinwood’s Longmel Courvoisier Truffle; 17 months A well-balanced youngster with a pleasing conical head and expressive eye. Good depth of chest and brisket, with a prominent pro-sternum. Slightly straight in front, which affected reach on the move. Maintains a level topline and presents longer in coupling. Hindquarters show good angulation, contributing to steady movement. Overall, a promising dog with scope to mature. 2nd Hinwood’s Longmel Columbus Truffle; 17 months More substantial in head, with a broader skull than ideal. Scissor bite. Straight in front and shorter in loin, giving a more compact outline. Ribbing is well developed and carried back. Unfortunately, did not show to advantage today— appeared unsettled, which was a pity as he has quality. One to watch when more relaxed. Novice Dog (4,0); 1st Hinwood’s Longmel Columbus Truffle ; Previously placed 2nd in the earlier class but showed marked improvement here with owner handling. Settled well and moved with greater confidence. Maintained a pleasing outline with a level topline and steady gait. A well constructed dog. 2nd;Moore’s Padraig Rjabina De Bergerac ;22 months Masculine yet refined, with a conical head and good length of neck. Ears slightly oversized, detracting from overall balance of head. Scissor bite. Front construction a tad too straight, affecting reach. Topline held well on the move, and rear angulation. Moved with purpose and drive. Post-Graduate Dog (7,1); 1st Cox’s Dovestream Black Russian At Dachshinbull; 6 years A mature dog of pleasing type. Conical head with dark, expressive eyes and correct scissor bite. Presents a long and low outline whilst still maintaining good ground clearance. Lacks fore chest, which affects overall balance, but compensates with a straight front and well-constructed hindquarters. Correct angulation fore and aft, contributing to a balanced profile. Maintained a level topline and moved out with purpose and drive—his movement secured the win. 2nd Carver’s Hasoma Lumiere; 21 months A young dog of pleasing type with a conical head and dark, expressive eyes—though slightly large, they lend a distinctive look. Maintains a level topline and shows potential in outline. Would benefit from more muscling in hindquarters, but he moved with enthusiasm and handled the ring well. A promising youngster who will benefit from time and maturity to strengthen overall balance and coordination. Open Dog (3,1); 1st Chauhan’s Neithhund Angus At Raajput; 2½ years A compact dog at the smaller end of the standard, but full of quality. Presents a lovely head with a broad skull and keen expression. Excellent fore chest, brisket, and pro-sternum. Well angulated both front and rear, contributing to a balanced and harmonious outline. Moved out with purpose, showing reach and drive. A well-constructed dog who impressed on the move and deserved Best Dog. 2nd Madonald’s Don Pedro II Das Terras Do Cannis Lupus; 6¾ years A veteran who clearly enjoyed his day, improving with each class. Presented in good body condition with a pleasing outline when stacked. Unfortunately, appeared unsettled by the flooring, which made movement difficult to assess accurately. Puppy Bitch (3,0); 1st; Chauhan’s Hundpoint Mamma Mia; 6 months A promising youngster with much to admire. Feminine head with dark, obliquely set eyes and correct scissor bite. Good depth of chest for her age, presenting a pleasing long and low outline. Straight front with correct angulation fore and aft. Maintained a level topline and moved out confidently—straight coming and going. One to watch as she matures. BPB & BPIB 2nd; Wand’s Wanderhund Put A Spell On You; 7 months Slightly heavier in head than 1, with a lower ear set, but still feminine in expression. Straight in front with good angulation both ends. Topline held well when stacked, though longer in loin. Moved soundly and was well presented and sympathetically handled. A quality puppy with potential, just needs time to refine. Junior Bitch (2,1); 1st;Hinwood’s Longmel After Eight Truffle; 17 months A feminine and well-constructed bitch of excellent type. Displays a pleasing head with good reach of neck, correct scissor bite, and well developed chest with prominent pro-sternum. Fore and hindquarters are well angulated and balanced, contributing to a level topline and fluid movement—straight coming and going. A quality exhibit with much to offer; with more confident handling, she will truly shine. Open Bitch (2,0); 1st; Chauhan’s CH. Adnerbs Take A Chance On Me At Raajput; 5½ years A beautiful and elegant bitch of excellent type. Feminine head with dark eyes and rich tan markings throughout—lovely to see and adds to her overall appeal. Correct scissor bite. Well-developed chest with good pro sternum. Balanced angulation fore and aft, maintaining a level topline. Slightly longer in loin than ideal, but this did not detract from her overall outline. Moved out with reach and drive, parallel and true. Creates a striking profile and had the edge over her kennel mate in overall shape and balance. Deserved Best Bitch and Best of Breed. 2nd; Gentle’s Craimose Freesia; 2½ years A sound bitch with a different head type. Eyes are lighter than preferred. Correct scissor bite. Carrying excess weight today, which affected overall outline and movement. Nonetheless, she was well presented and handled, and with improved condition, her strengths will show more clearly. It was a pleasure to judge the Miniature Wire-Haired Dachshund entry, which offered depth and variety across all age groups. The puppies were particularly impressive, showing maturity, confidence, and breed type well beyond their age. The more mature dogs and bitches were presented in good condition, with sound construction and movement that reflected thoughtful breeding and preparation. Best Dog and Best Bitch were both outstanding examples of the breed, showing balance, drive, and correct coat texture. Thank you to all exhibitors for your dedication and sportsmanship—it was a privilege to assess such a well-prepared and quality entry.

Thank you to the Dachshund Club for the invitation, I enjoyed my day greatly judging this charming variety. Puppy Dog (4,1) 1. McCalmont’s Silvae Bystander. A very smart puppy with super proportions and of a lovely size. Lovely long head and expression. He has such a clean and flowing outline. Long neck set well into shoulder, super return of upper arm. In good body. Uses himself very well on the move, if still a little baby-ish and not fully focused on the job just yet. 2. Davies’ Atahira Finale. Very much a baby, though in super body. He has very good bone and feet, but didn’t have the front construction of 1 and needs to firm up in topline. 3. Harvey’s Skyswift Mystic Way. Junior Dog (3) 1. McCalmont’s Covellyn’s Cecil at Silvae (Imp). Such a stylish and upstanding youngster of ideal proportions. Pleasing, masculine head with slightly arched muzzle, held on a long neck. Excellent lay of shoulder and return of upper arm. Super leg length and feet. Ribbed well back. He can still settle into his hindquarters but he has strong hocks and uses them so well on the move. True front and excellent profile movement with ample drive from the rear. Excellent coat. BD, BOB and BP. Delighted to see him go BPIS too, surely has a very bright future! 2. Beagrie’s Feldhund Moonlight. Another pleasing young dog, if slightly too long for ideal proportions but holds a clean and firm outline. Lovely head and expression. Fairly well made front but not quite that of 1 which showed in his reach on the move. Excellent rear. Goes well with a good carriage. Good temperament and overall condition. 3. Hope’s Bixadicroise Caramel. Novice Dog (1,1) Post Graduate Dog (1) 1. Farrington’s Dollydash Defender Of Faith. He is up to size though pleased for proportions and outline. Masculine head with lovely furnishings. Fairly well made front and plenty forechest, though feet a little flat. A little unsure of himself on the table but moved freely in profile holding his outline, a touch narrow coming and going. Shown in good condition. Open Dog (4,1) 1. Russell’s Collidach Russell Leeves. A very mature picture, just sometimes appearing a touch heavy through. Long well shaped head with dark eyes and excellent pigment. Well laid shoulder, which flows into topline, could have a touch more length to upper arm. Excellent topline and well ribbed back. Moved well in profile, rear could be more parallel. 2. Norman’s Silvae State Secret. A very showy dog with excellent carriage. Completely different in type and appearance compared to 1, appearing somewhat tubular through the body, but I admired his ground clearance and balanced angulation. Not the neck set or ribbing of 1. A super profile mover. Excellent temperament and showmanship. 3. Horne’s Salixian Moroccan Mint. Puppy Bitch (3,1) 1. Ward’s Tendrow Tilly Toke with Morlanow. This bitch had a lovely flow of outline and very good proportions. Liked her head which was feminine and of good length, correct eye. Neck flowed into well laid shoulders with super return of upper arm. Has time to develop in forechest. Very good feet. Free and positive mover. Super temperament, lovely puppy. 2. Dickinson’s Dakotadax Legend Of Zelda. Very feminine and a lovely size but looking a little too leggy at present. Very well made strong rear, she stands four square and has good feet. Unable to match the winner on the move for stride and freedom of action. Junior Bitch (4) 1. Dickonson’s Derdledash Skyfall at Dakotadax. Presents a really smart outline and has good proportions with perfect ground clearance. Well shaped head with lovely eye and expression. Neck flows into topline with well laid shoulders. Scores well for upper arm too. Well ribbed, though wouldn’t want her any longer in loin. Balanced and well made rear. Went really well on the move, with super reach and drive, holding her outline well. Lovely bitch. 2. Beagrie’s Feldhund Show The Way. A little too long but presents quite an elegant picture with her long neck and firm topline. Well made front, even if not quite that of 1. Holds a super outline both standing and moving, good profile mover but could be more parallel coming and going. 3. Vadhia’s Serengarth Queen Bea. Novice Bitch (3,1) 1. Dickinson’s Derdledash Skyfall at Dakotadax. 2. Hayes’ Ottnott Doreen Martha. A feminine bitch of lovely size. In good body with decent ribbing. Would prefer more layback in front and could have a touch more bone. Delightful temperament. Post Graduate Bitch (5,2) Difficult class to separate. 1. Dickinson’s Derdledash Dakota at Dakotadax. Feminine head, although a touch round in eye. Fairly well laid shoulders, a bit short in upper arm. Well ribbed back, short loin and level topline. Excellent jacket. Sound up and down and balanced in profile even if she could have more stride. 2. Graham’s Boloria Wild Spice JW. Excellent proportions. Preferred her head, eye and expression. She too needs more length of upper arm and not the ribbing of 1. Moved well holding her outline but not as sound on the up and down. 3. Beagrie’s Feldhund Show The Way. Open Bitch (4,2) 1. Hutching’s Ch Collidach Brook Ling ShCEx. Smart bitch. Lovely head and expression. Well made all through, particularly in front. Rather flat in foot which let her down. True and sound on the move, extremely parallel up and down, with good reach and drive in profile. Just didn’t quite have the drive and verve of the dog in the BOB challenge. Best Bitch. 2. Cox’s Hopewood Que Sera Sera avec Bulldaxit. This bitch had super proportions but appeared a little heavy, think she could lose some weight. Lovely feminine head with correct eye and ear. Fairly well made in front but unable to match 1 in this class. Excellent topline. Free mover in profile but would prefer her more parallel up and down. Mr L A Johnston
