Dachshund Club 2003
Judge: Daniel Roberts
Dachshund (Long Haired)
Numerically speaking my entry was around the mark that I
thought it would be, with the lack of puppies around this year the puppy &
junior classes have been numerically poor throughout this show season. However
their now seems to be a few litters on the ground & several bitches in whelp, so
numerically speaking lets hope the entries will make an increase next year. All
exhibits with no exceptions were presented so well, teeth nice & clean &, feet
so well trimmed, apart from the odd one that lacked a little in muscle tone, the
presentation of our Longs are a credit to us all. 'Type' throughout was good
heads in bitches were far better than those on the males, I was a little
surprised at some bites, the odd level bite & some miss placed front teeth not
giving a correct scissor bite, size in general is more than acceptable in my
book, bone & feet are good, plenty of forechests around though these seemed to
appear more on dogs that were narrow & were forward placed in the shoulder,
length of ribbing & general body condition was good & I think hind angulation
has improved slightly though most are still so unsound when seen moving away.
Lots of good profile action with good head carriage & firm toplines though more
than half lacked real drive showing a good reach & follow through. It was
disappointing especially in the bitches to have to judge so many that are well
constructed & beautiful in type but are so grossly overweight, had they not have
been with out doubt some results would have changed. As a real lover of
Dachshunds, especially the longs, I am not going to carry on preaching what is
good & bad about our variety, we all have a breed standard & blue print in
'Sayers', take time to read it, think about it, then ask yourself what you could
do to improve your line, for the sake of our most glamorous variety lets try &
help each other if for nothing else for the sake of our beautiful breed. Both my
CC winners were winning their second CC's & looked like two peas in a pod, pair
to be proud of. Under the BIS judge Mrs Voaden our variety continued to do well,
RBIS, BPIS & BVIS!, congratulatlons to all concerned. MPD (2). 1 Jordan &
Nightingale's Rodima Dark Lord. How this b/t boy has come on since he first
appeared at 6 months, those few extra months do make a difference, now just over
8 months the overall picture of balance & substance is getting there, very good
head with super dark almond shaped eyes, long well arched neck, plenty of
forechest though needs to drop a touch into front, very good ribbing that
extends well back, firm backline, short loins, well balanced quarters, comes at
you soundly but still has time to settle behind, lovely coat & presentation,
will keep an eye on him; 2 Chapman's Melminds Electrical Storm. Typey 9 mth old
red with really super head & expression, has plenty of style about him & lovely
neck carriage in profile, maybe a better Size than 1, but not as clean over the
shoulders or as sound coming & going yet, in hard condition for a baby & so well
presented. PD (2). 1 Metcalfe's Metadale Macquarie. 9 month s/r, for one so
young he has size, style & soundness, plenty of promise here & his overall
picture in profile is so good, lovely head & eye, good dark points throughout,
well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, good forechest that fits
tightly, good legs & feet, ribbing extends well back with correct top &
underlines, short firm lions, nice hammy quarters, super length of second thigh
& neat short parallel hocks, solid enough coming & going, reaching out well in
profile & has tremendous drive from behind, in super coat & condition, he can
only get better with age, liked him the first time I saw him, today he did more
than enough to impress me & justified it by being awarded the RDCC, BP & going
on to BPIS, congratulations & good luck. JD (2). 1 Cross' Bonavoir Beethoven
with Loggeta. 11 month b/t that is so forward for his age, good showman & has
that touch of style about him on the move, super dark almond shaped eyes, a
touch broad over the skull, ears well set & correct in length, very good breast
bone, super legs & feet, ribbing extends well back, well balanced behind, tail a
touch high set for me, still has that puppy sloppiness coming & going, looking v
good in profile, super condition & presentation, time will tell. PGD (6). Really
mixed class. 1 Meacham's Melminds Merican. This 3 yr b/t had to win on type &
size, has a super head & expression, dark almond shaped eyes, plenty of neck
with good carriage, good forechest & length of keel, needs more width through
out, firm topline that he held at all times though underline does cut up a shade
to much, short loins with firm hammy quarters, tail well set & carried, quite
sound coming & going though lacks overall drive, in good coat & condition; 2
Burke & Manston's Bonavoir Loggeta Intrepid. Beautifully presented 19 month red,
different in type to 1, a shade bigger & still loose all over, head is in
proportion with body & has good ratio's from muzzle to skull where he is a shade
to broad for me, elegant neck carriage, elbows could be tighter, plenty of
forechest, ribbing extends well back & is well sprung, short loins, needing to
firm up behind carries him self well in profile showing well; 3 Smith's Rodima
Reach Of Gold. LD (5). 1 Holt's Metadale Midnight Cowboy. Liked him as a rolly
polly p & now that he has matured & slimmed of 1 love him. Everything about him
is so gd, your hands just flow when examining him on the table, the whole
package is there to see, so beautifully balanced, a lovely size & is so true to
type. His head & expression is superb, super dark almond shaped eyes, ears well
set & are well feathered with correct length, long well arched neck that leads
into correctly angulated shoulders, elbows nice & tight, gd legs & feet, super
front assembly, everything fits so well, ribbing extends well back with gd top &
under line, short firm loins leading into firm well muscled quarters, tail is
correctly set & feathered being carried well at all times, v sound coming &
going, in profile keeps a splendid outline moving with great drive, super reach
& follow through, a super youngster that just draws your eye, a v gd showman, so
well presented & handled, CC (his second), BOB & RBIS, many congratulations & gd
luck for many more; 2 Furneaux's Voryn's Fellini. Fir compact 4 1/2 yr old red,
body ratios are totally in proportion, lower to ground than 1, loved his bone &
feet, plenty of forechest, excellent well sprung ribbing extending well back
with super top & underlines, short firm loins, although not a lot of angulation
behind he certainly uses what he's got & they are firm & well balanced, projects
himself well on the move, keeping a gd outline in profile, so well presented; 3
Burke & Manston's Bonavoir Cloney-Logan. OD (4). This was a nice class to sort
out, though they all have their faults all four appealed to me for different
reasons. 1 Mitchell & Hanney's Ch Frankanwen Sundance to Bronia. I have always
like this handsome s/r, if for nothing else his beautiful outline in profile &
lovely size & today this is what won him the class, lovely head & eye, well
feathered ears, plenty of neck that he projects himself with on the move, enough
forechest, ribbing extends well back, firm back line, short loins that lead into
v gd hind quarters, super turn of stifle & short neat hocks, tail well set &
carried, moves soundly going away though is a touch untidy in front & could do
with more width, his profile action & outline was faultless as was his
presentation & handling, so close up at the top, still remains a favourite. Sire
of the BOB winner; 2 Metcalfe's Metadale Make My Day. I must admit he was such a
super p but as he went through the 'teenage' stage he didn't do much for me,
it's only when you go over him on the table that you can fully appreciate this 3
yr old b/y, your hands flow, gd head, dark almond shaped eyes, enough neck
leading into well placed shoulders, plenty of forechest, gd body proportions
that lead into well angulated hindquarters, tail a touch high set, a gd showman
& had the class been judged on the stack he would have won it, for me I wish he
would put more into his movement & this lets him down especially in profile,
presented in lovely condition; 3 Jordan & Nightingale's Ch Rodima The Toff. V
(3). All males. 1 Geeson's Abydachs Viking. 7 yr old s/r, beautiful for type, in
glorious coat & condition, I find him well made & typical all through, v similar
to my open winner & really the same comments apply, lovely head & carriage, gd
shoulders, firm well made body, totally in proportion, well made hindquarters,
tail well set, looks so well in profile clearly displaying gd reach & follow
through, keeping a lovely outline at all times. BV & delighted he went BVIS
where he looked really gd in the big ring. Sire of the lovely RBCC winner; 2
Chapman's Witchespell War Lord. V typy 9 yr old red with the most beautiful head
& expression, lovely ratios from muzzle to skull, well arched neck, gd
prosternum, tight elbows, gd firm top line, ribbing extends well back, has
enough angulation behind that he uses v well, toes in coming towards but so
sound going away, kept his outline in profile just needing a little more get up
& go, in lovely condition; 3 Holt's Cedavoch Clandestine. MPB (2). 1 Hayes'
Rodima Dark Crystal Mitt Dialhouse. Really promising b/t baby, all though still
raw, she has everything in the right place, super type & well balanced all
through, beautiful feminine head & melting expression, long well arched neck
leading into well placed shoulders, plenty of forechest & width on gd legs &
feet, body is well developed for age, ribbing extending well back, gd firm back
line, short thick loins, nice hammy quarters, coming & going she is sound enough
for one so young, keeping a v gd outline in profile, the d p just pipped her to
the post on overall finish, one I would like to own, well presented & handled,
without a doubt a bright future for this one; 2 Cross' Loggeta High Society. V
raw & sloppy 6 mth old red at her first show, certainly put on a gd show, gd
head & eye, enough neck leading into gd shoulders, plenty of forechest, gd top
line & ribbing, short loins leading into well developed quarters, tail correctly
set & carried, sloppy coming & going as it should be, going well in profile,
happy out going girl enjoying her day, time will tell. PB (2). 1 Cross & Burke's
Loggeta Chiquita. 9 mth old rich red, such a beautiful colour, nice head &
expression, enough neck which she carries so elegantly on the move, plenty of
forechest, gd legs & feet, gd top & under lines with gd ribbing, nicely balanced
behind with enough angulation, still needing to tighten in front action though v
sound moving away, looks well in profile for one so young, faultless condition.
JB (2). 1 Furber's Dorysa Deelishus. 18 mth old s/r with super head &
expression, gd dark almond shaped eyes, long well arched neck leading into
correctly angled shoulders, plenty of forechest & width, keel extending well
back, gd bone & feet, plenty of ribbing that extends well back, firm top line,
short thick loins, firm quarters with gd length of second thigh though could
have shorter hocks, moves parallel coming & going, keeping her top line in
profile, a sizeable girl but all in proportion, gd well presented coat. PGB
(10). An interesting class to sort out though many were shown over weight other
wise placings may have been different, however on the day two litter sisters
battled it out. 1 Geeson's Abydachs Modern Girl. 2 1/2 yr old s/r slightly
taller than some but she can certainly cover some ground, nice head &
expression, correct ratios from muzzle to skull, well placed ears of gd length,
lovely long well arched neck that she uses so well on the move, well muscled
shoulders, enough forechest, gd legs & feet, ribbing extends well back, cast
iron back line, short thick loins that lead into beautifully angulated quarters
that are firm & parallel & uses them so well to thrust around the ring, v
elegant in profile, super reach & follow through keeping a balanced picture that
draws the eye, in hard condition, well presented & handled; 2 Bradley's Abydachs
Heaven Can Wait for Lafrowda. Shade smaller & lower to ground, I find this deep
s/r b v appealing, most beautiful feminine head & expression, enough neck,
although well muscled not as clean in shoulders as 1, beautiful body &
proportions, short thick loins that lead into well made & angulated quarters,
moving a shade wide in front but spot on going away, today she really put
everything into her movement which showed in profile, plenty of reach & follow
through, keeping a v nice outline, still needs to loose the odd pound but will
be a useful b I am sure; 3 Atkins & Harwood's Kantis Kreme-Fraiche. LB (7). 1
Mitchell's Darsoms Zerenity at Bronia. 22 mth old b/t of the highest quality &
beautiful breed type, she should appeal more probably to a breed specialist as
not the most glamorous but so beautifully & correctly put together, her head is
to die for, so feminine with lovely dark almond shaped eyes, ears correctly set
& are of correct length, long well arched neck that lead into copy book
shoulders, tight elbows, enough forechest on gd legs & feet, keel extends well
back, gd firm backline & ribbing, hind quarters are well made & angulated
throughout being strong & parallel, tail correctly set, moves v sound coming &
going with plenty of drive, looks v gd in profile keeping a lovely outline, she
is slightly taller & more exaggerated in length but is beautifully proportioned
& balanced, in fit hard condition she had to pull all the stops out to beat the
beautiful open winner, loved both parents, this one certainly wouldn't look out
of place in our kennel, just not the 'cocky' attitude of the d for BOB but made
a v fitting CC winner, her second; 2 Metcalfe's Metdale Mountain Of Dreams. 3 yr
old s/r that is also so gd to go over, slightly smaller (which I like) & lower
to ground, another that scores well in head & expression with a real feminine
outlook, long well arched neck that leads into well placed shoulders, she has
plenty of forechest & width between the front legs, tight elbows with ribbing
that extends well back, gd top & underlines, short thick loins, nicely angulated
hammy quarters, moves quite soundly coming & going, keeping a gd outline in
profile on the day, I thought that she could have had more drive behind.,
beautifully presented & handled, will without doubt make it upstairs; 3
Chapman's Melminds Melly Mel. OB (3). Tough class to finish on, two lovely
bitches. 1 Geeson's Ch Abydachs Give Me The Future. Top flight b that is always
shown in superb condition, I have always admired her & was thrilled to have the
chance to go over her, beautiful head & expression though not as clean over the
skull as the CC winner, long well arched neck, copy book shoulders, tight
elbows, gd legs & feet, well filled front, long well sprung ribbing with cast
iron top line, gd underline, firm thick loins that lead into well angulated
quarters, plenty of length of second thigh & short firm hocks that are well
muscled & parallel, moves dead true coming & going, looking well in profile,
keeping a lovely outline at all times with a lovely neck carriage, fit &
carrying the right amount of weight, in lovely coat & condition, a close call
for the big one, on the day just thought she could have opened her gait a touch
more, another I would love to own RCC; 2 Mitchell's Darsoms Zophisticate of
Bronia. Beautiful clear red, sister to the CC winner though more compact & lower
to ground, gave her BPIS here last yr I still like her tremendously, lovely head
& eye, long firm elegant neck & carriage, nicely angulated shoulders with gd
layback, super bone & feet, plenty of forechest, ribbing is long extending well
back, firm top line, short thick loins, super hind angulation that she really
uses on the move & this shows so well in profile, tail well set & carried, I
knew it was going to be tough to split these two, but on the day I was moving
much cleaner coming & going, in lovely condition so fit & full of herself, an
extremely active young lady that will without doubt carry her title.
