LONG HAIRED

Many thanks to the committee of The Scottish Dachshund Club for offering me my first CC appointment which I thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks also to the exhibitors for the good entry north of the border. The quality in the 2 puppy classes shows promise for the future. My main concerns were the lack of balance in a lot of the dogs, many looked lovely stacked but just couldn't hold their shape on the move with far too often front and back movement just not corresponding. A lot were narrow through but this in my opinion is less of a fault than the ones who were very wide in front and narrow behind or visa versa. Too many are being moved with a very upright head and neck carriage with some being strung up to achieve this, it not only looks unnatural but restricts the front action making some take short choppy strides in front. The standard asks for free flowing movement and only a few present had this. Having said that all the dogs present were in good condition, presentation was excellent, all mouths were correct and there were no kinky tails. PD (7) Super class of dog puppies which shows promise for the future of the breed. 1 Oxley's Owlery Destroyer. 8 month red dog, very promising shaded red baby, super type, good conical head, strong neck, correct layback of shoulder and good length of upper arm allowing for sound and reachy front movement. Correct topline and super hind quarters producing the correct drive when moving. Still immature but a very exciting prospect for the future. 2 Dare's Bronia Classic Cool At Darsoms. Very mature 10 month red dog in fantastic coat for age, presented to perfection. Beautiful head and neck which he carried well on the move. Didn't have as good a layback of shoulders as 1. Good ribbing and correct topline, well angulated behind. On the move he was very happy which didn't help his hind movement. Given time to settle he should trouble the best. 3 Little's Metadale Monferrato At Lochurr. JD (1) 1 Little's Metadale Midnight Marauder. Good type14 Month Black & Tan dog, Loved his head, adequate in neck, good prosternum and shoulder angulation, although they could have been set further back. Ribbing could be longer which would have helped his topline. Very happy on the move which was throwing his hind action somewhat. In super coat and condition. PGD (6) 1 Little's Metadale Man Of The World. Loved this shaded red dog which I hadn't noticed before. Came into the ring owning it and just the type and size I like. Head good but cow lick detracts initially. Good length of neck leading into good shoulders which have the correct length of upperarm to allow for reachy front movement. Plenty of prosternum and follow through. Well ribbed back with short strong loin. Correct topline held at all times and super hind quarters which he really used to power round the ring. A good coat topped off this smart dog. A real eye catcher in profile and so sound coming and going. Was delighted to award him the RCC and he pushed every step of the way for the CC. Well done. 2 Johnson's Tiendawn Velvet Commander At Africandawns. S/R dog just out of junior, and lacking the maturity and coat of 1. Taller type with lovely head and neck. Well angulated shoulders, Correct topline and good hindquarters. Looked good on the move in profile but very narrow coming and going. 3 Metcalfe's Metadale Major Decision. LD (4) 1 Mitchell's Bronia Patriarch. 19 month pale red dog shown in good condition and handled to get the most out of him. Taller type with lovely head and neck. Good layback of shoulder, but short in upper arm and elbows could be tighter especially on the move. Correct topline and well angulated quarters. On the move he had a very upright carriage, and was moving wide in front and narrow behind. In the challenge just didn't have the balance of the CC and RCC winners. 2 Oxley's Owlery Valentine JW SHCM - 2 yr B/T dog in lovely condition. Looks a picture stacked and initially thought he would be an easy winner. Lovely head, neck and front construction. Correct topline held well on the move. Nicely angulated hindqarters which I wish he'd used more on the move. True coming and going but have seen him look so much better going round, lacked sparkle. 3 Hutton's Owlery Majestic. OD (3) 1 Metcalfe's Ch Metadale Macquarie. Mature, shaded red dog in full coat and fantastic condition. His head isn't his fortune but the rest of him makes up for it. Good neck leading into well placed and angulated shoulders, adequate prosternum and a good length of ribbing. Excellent top and underline. Super quarters with plenty of muscle allowing him to really drive from behind on the move. Front action is true and well reaching. He is narrow through, but his overall type, balance and condition easily won him the CC. 2 McFaul's Ir Ch Dachville Distant Dream. Pale red boy looking better than I've seen him look recently. Good head and neck. Well angulated shoulders although placed a bit forward. He could do with longer ribbing. Good hind quarters which he used well on the move. Sound dog in lovely coat and condition. 3 Cook & Rhodes' Bournder Emeral Star. PB (5,1a) A trio of lovely young bitches topped this class 1 Dare's Fragglerock Rosy Martini At Darsoms. Very mature 9 month red bitch who impressed me greatly. Not a small girl but there is a lot to like about her. Beautiful head, neck and front construction. Correct topline, well ribbed back and short loin. Good quarters. Looked a picture both standing and moving. Very sound coming and going with a beautiful outline going round. Very classy bitch with tons of potential. Loved her and was delighted to award her the RCC. Fingers crossed she lives up to her early promise. 2 Mitchell's Bronia Classy Chassis. 10 Month red bitch of good type. Lovely head and neck, good shoulders and prosternum. Correct topline which she held well on the move. Well angulated quarters. Would look better carrying a bit more weight. Unsettled on the move today. 3 Oxley's Owlery Thumbelina. Litter sister to 1st PD and very like him. Not as mature as 1 & 2 but a lot to like. JB (3,1a) 1 Johnson's Brynalyn Bitter Sweet At Africandawns. 13 month shaded red bitch of lovely type. Excellent head and neck, good shoulder placement and angulation. Good length of ribbing and Correct topline held well on the move. Excellent hind quarters. Narrow through and not moving with much enthusiasm. 2 Cook & Rhodes' Bournder Royal Sapphire. Lovely type black and tan girl, lovely head and neck. Excellent prosternum and shoulder angulation. Well ribbed back and a good length. First and second thigh of good length but longer in hock to floor. Sound coming and going with excellent reach in front and drive from behind, but not holding her outline today. NB (2) 1 Mitchell's Brynalyn Fancy Free. Litter sister to 1 in Junior bitch and very similar. Good type, lovely head and eye with super dark pigment. Good front construction, good length of ribbing and correct topline. A little short in second thigh. Moved well with more drive than her sister. 2 Paskins' Africandawns Night Russet At Kindacre. 6 yr old red girl. Sound bitch who moved true both coming and going. Not holding her topline on the move. PGB (4) 1 Metcalfe's Metadale Main In Michigan. Shaded red 2 yr old bitch in super coat and condition. Loved her type and size. Good head and neck. Adequate prosternum, good shoulder angulation. Good length of ribbing and correct topline. Excellent hindquarters. Very sound on the move. So like her father who won the DCC. Pushed very hard in the challenge but lost out on the elegance of the winners. 2 Oxley's Owlery Hedi Lemar JW - B/T bitch not in her best coat. Bigger than 1 but of a very good type. Lovely head and neck. Super shoulders with excellent prosternum. Good length and spring of ribbing. Short loin. Well angulated quarters. Wasn't holding her outline as well as 1 on the move and like her brother was a little lacking in drive from behind on the move. 3 Paskin's Metadale Maid In Manhatton At Kindacre. LB (5) 1 McNaughton's Cedavoch Bewitched. Shaded Red bitch I have judged before, love her type and elegance. Beautiful head and neck. Good shoulder construction and prosternum. Lovely outline which she held on the move. Moved true coming and going, just a little narrow through and lacking in rear drive in the challenge. 2 Mitchell's Bronia Playgirl. Young red bitch of good type. Sound in front with good shoulder placement and angulation, Good top and underline both stacked and on the move. Moved true. Preferred the head, eye and expression of 1. 3 Dare's Bronia Huntress At Darsoms. OB (4) 1 McFaul's Ch/Ir Ch Dachville Perfect Blend. Stunning black and tan bitch of excellent type. Have admired her from the ringside and she didn't disappoint on closer examination. Elegant all through, with lovely head and neck carried proudly on the move. Excellent front assembly, adequate ribbing, good top and underline and super quarters. Flowed round the ring like she owned it. In lovely coat and condition. No hesitation in awarding her the CC and BOB, and delighted that she went on to win BIS. 2 Mitchell's Ch Bronia Carmelita JW. Sound red bitch I have done well for as a youngster. Excellent front assembly, with super shoulder placement. Well ribbed back with good top and underline which she holds on the move. Not the quarters of 1 and just couldn't match her overall balance and stylish movement. 3 Metcalfe's Metadale Make It Happen.
