Wendy Starkey was due to judge the three non-CC varieties at LKA. She had drawn a super entry and I know was much looking forward to the day. Sadly like so many others she was unable to get to the show. On the day I was asked to take over two of the varieties. Understandably without CCs to compete for, most exhibitors had decided to stay at home rather than venture into the snow, and I’m grateful to the two Long and two Smooth exhibitors who did make it.

The Longs were both shaded red bitch puppies. BOB was Cross’ 8–month-old Glasvey Double Trouble, I’ve already given this lovely youngster a BPIS at a hound open show and a week later she was just as nice! So pretty and feminine, correct expression, good neck flowing into clean shoulders, smooth topline and correct ribbing, sound hindquarters and a typical front. Good size, excellent mover and everything to like at this age. RBB was Wedge’s Faulksfollie Miss Minaver at Dolans, 6 months baby of a more rangy type who will take longer to mature but the basics are there, pretty head, reachy neck, excellent topline which she retains on the move, sound smooth mover. Just preferred winner’s forechest and hindquarters at this stage.
