It was both an honour and a pleasure to judge Standards at the Smooth-haired Club. The KC building is a super venue and we had a large airy ring and a garden party atmosphere prevailed all day. Well done. My steward, Bill Rowell, ably assisted by Jan, had the whole even running smoothly. Many thanks. One or two observations of the day were: Forward placed shoulders, lack of length of ribbing and weak, thin feet, such an ugly fault, however, I had many good Dachshunds of high quality and I enjoyed my day enormously. VD/B (4, 1) 1 Multi Ch Bensarka Phoenix Sun. Lovely deep red boy in immaculate condition. Liked him on the table, loved him on the move, just floated round, ended up BVIS. Well done. 2 Norton's Ch Matzell Mildred. Lovely quality red who is so well made and very sound, looked lovely stacked but could have been a little more enthusiastic going round. 3 Higgins' Ch Leveliss What She Said. MPD (2) 1 Paterson's Phaeland Second Delivery To Ambiesque. Sh/red of quality, liked his head and eye, good bone and feet, pleasing to handle and has a super topline, very good mover too, just needs a little more confidence. Best PD. 2 McNaughton's Cedavoch Tropical Storm. Lovely, very dark red at the awkward, gangly stage at present, needs time to fill his frame, good to go over and is very sound. PD (1) 1 Higgins' Meganhol Black Musketeer At Leveliss. Very smart b/t with a lovely head and eye, strong topline and holds himself well going round, just a little upright in front assembly. JD (2) 1 Hughes' Matzell Matama At Ivcar. Good quality red in lovely condition, liked his head, very good ribbing and forechest, sound away and going round, just a little narrow coming towards. 2 Goffin-Thorogood's Matzell Malizani. My notes say 'very similar red', and no wonder, I see they are brothers, very pleasing for type, cuts up a little sharply in underline, he also is a little narrow coming towards and needs a stronger temperament. ND (1) 1 Meganhal Black Musketeer At Leveliss. PGD (4, 1) 1 Kerry's Kireton Beau Diddley. Very pleasing b/t who is so well made, lovely bone and feet, well ribbed and a good body on him, sound coming and going and he is a pleasing type. 2 Knott's Bensarka Mr Mistofelees At Tristanskeep. Red boy who needs better feet, he is just a little tall in hock, but topline is good, a little narrow coming towards. LD (5) 1 McNaughton's Carper Ag V On Nordor (Imp). Really handsome dark red, loved everything about him. Quality masculine head with good eye, super pigmentation, lovely bone and thick padded feet, oval front and the best of ribbing and topline, such a super mover too, needs a stronger character and just failed to make the most of his many qualities. 2 Macdonald's Jagies Nabucco At Bensarka (Imp). Very elegant red with a lovely outline, shown in lovely condition, pleasing head on reachy neck, good topline, very strong behind, just a little narrow coming towards. 3 Starkey's Carpaccio Topic Of The Day Is Hamoura. OD (6) 1 Armstrong's Ch Lauralee Nicholas Nickleby. B/t who is a real stallion, so correct on the table, lovely front and feet, good bone and ribbing, strong backline and hindquarters, pleasing in head, eye and expression, full of arrogance and Dachshund character, shown hard and fit and in gleaming condition, his excellent construction enabled him to just sail round the ring. CC winner. 2 Williams & Moes' Cwmdarhian San Andreas. Quality red of very different type to the winner, liked him a great deal also, shown in lovely condition, such a good head and eye and super pigment, lovely to go over on the table, everything in the right place, sound in front and rear and held his outline so well going round. Res CC. 3 Tite's Ch Phaeland Special Driver. MPB (2) 1 McNaughton's Cedavoch Tempest. Such a lovely dark red with a very pretty head and eye, good neck and lovely front and feet, very well ribbed up and has a firm topline, so very sound on the move holding herself well, just needs a little more confidence. 2 Lucas' Viewmoor Happy Days. Liked her head and eye very much and she was shown in lovely condition, would like better feet and not the soundness of movement of winner. PB (5, 1) 1 Mitchell's Cedavoch Solar Storm At Bronia. Quality red of lovely type. I see she is sister to winner of the last class. Very pleasing for size, she has a lovely head and is so well made all through with good ribs and lovely body and topline, like her sister, a super mover too. 2 Armstrong's Lauralee To The Manor Born. Another quality red, I see by the CC winner, has his stamp about her in attitude. Lovely head on reachy neck, lovely front and feet, sound on the move but not quite holding her outline going round. 3 Tite's Phaeland Sweet Dancer. JB (5) 1 Norton's Matzell Myrtle. Lovely red who was super on the table, apart from her feet, which could be that bit tighter, pretty head on good neck, so well fronted and such good ribbing, very sound and very active on the move with good length of stride. 2 Macdonald's Bensarka I Like Twucks. Another red with a touch of class about her. Lovely outline on the stack, pretty head and shown in gleaming condition, on the move she is so sound coming and going but not quite the stride going round. 3 Tite's Rijobeau Caught On Camera. NB (2, 1) 1 McNaughton's Cedavoch Rainstorm. The third of what turned out to be three litter mates. This one I thought was a bit special, nearly 9 mths red of beautiful quality, lovely head and gorgeous dark eye, well pigmented, reachy neck, oval front, thick padded feet, so well bodied and with a firm topline, ribs carried well back, on the move she is so sound and goes round with reach, drive and style. Won Res CC and BP and ended up BPIS. Well done. PGB (6) 1 Paget & Carroll's Lauralee Lying Eyes For Marvale. Another by the CC winner. Striking b/t, like her father, is all Dachshund. Very pleasing in head and eye, such a reachy neck, so pleasing on the table with good front, bone and feet, good ribbing and strong quarters, sound going and coming and holds herself well going round. Close up in the challenge. 2 Kerry's Kireton Daisy Belle. Another quality b/t sister to PGD winner. She is lovely on the stack having a pleasing head and eye, good front and well ribbed firm body, not quite this lovely shape going round as she is a little tall in hock which makes her a touch bum high. 3 Seago & Gibbard's Amlida Asintended. LB (4) 1 Hunt's Lauralee Miss Marple At Carpaccio. Yet another by Nicholas Nickleby. This b/t has a very pleasing make and shape, typy head on reachy neck, good front and feet, very well constructed and holds herself well on the move, just needs a stronger temperament. 2 Burke's Bonavoir Testa Rossa. Larger type red who is very pleasing on the table being so well put together, well ribbed and has a strong backline, sound enough on the move, but would like thicker feet and a slightly darker eye. 3 Wand's Wanderhund Moon Dragon. OB (8, 2) 1 Williams & Moes' Cwmdarhian Hot Off The Press. Superb red. I found her quite immaculate in every way, super head with lovely eye and expression, reachy neck, lovely oval front and the neatest feet, ribs carried well back and an iron backline, a little short in hocks and strong quarters. This super construction enabled her to move so soundly with reach, drive and hold an immaculate topline, couple this with super conditioning and sympathetic handling plus a superb temperament and you have a star. Won CC, which I was told was her third. Well done, plus BOB, plus Res BIS to the lovely Mini Smooth. Thanks for bringing her, it made my day. 2 Wand's Wanderhund Scarlet Witch. Another quality red whose forté is on the move, so very sound and active, looked as if she could go all day. Very pleasing to go over having a good front and feet, lovely body and rib and sound limbs, held herself well going round, just not in her best bib and tucker coat-wise today, but a lovely Dachshund. The essence of femininity. 3 Tomlinson's Bensarka Golden Garter. Varieties Terry Thorn Tribute Class (7, 4) 1 Fossett & Kent's Lokmadi A Boy Named Sue. Lovely quality b/t Mini Smooth. Quality, masculine head, reachy neck, good front and feet, sound, all Dachshund in outlook and outline. 2 Rudkin's Dynastydax Periwinkle. Very neat, dark red Mini Smooth, nice type with very good body and condition, not quite the movement of winner. 3 Yeoman's Klynerbyner Trade Mark. Members P Stakes (9, 8) 1 Williams' Wilmerella Go West. Very nice sh/red Mini Smooth baby at his first show. Liked his head and eye, pleasing to go over, nice size, good mover, just a little too proud of his tail at present. Members O Stakes (2) 1 Yeoman's Klynerbyner Kiss Untell. This b/t Mini Smooth was in lovely condition, with a good body and a shiny coat, pretty head, good topline and a decent mover. 2 Pearson's Leveliss Playground Twist. B/t Standard, again shown in gleaming condition, nice head and eye, decent outline, cuts up too much in underline and too tall in hock.
