Thank you to the society for the invitation to judge Smooth-Haired Dachshunds, their hospitality, and to my two lovely ring stewards. I had a thoroughly enjoyable day. The entry was small in quantity, but the hounds presented before me were super examples of their breed and a pleasure to judge. All had correct scissor bites and sound temperaments. Thank you.

OD 1 Armstrong's, Ch Lauralee Nicholas Nickleby. B/t mature male and what a lovely example of a Dachshund this boy is. He is full of quality and breed type, is beautifully constructed and balanced and is not overdone or exaggerated in any way. He has a strong, masculine head, aloof expression so typical of a Dachshund, a strong arched reach of neck that flowed into a well angulated and developed forechest, good ground clearance through keel, shoulders nicely laid back, ribs are well sprung, with good depth and length, short loin and well developed and angulated hindquarters. He moved with a free and easy stride as if he owned the ring, head held high and proud, displaying plenty of forward reach and rear drive. He was immaculately turned out and presented in lovely condition, his coat gleaming to complete the picture, a real stallion of a hound who has passed on these many qualities to his daughters. Easy to see why he has his title and has won and been placed in groups. BD, BOB.

PB 1 Armstrong's Lauralee To The Manor Born. 8 mth gorgeous red baby puppy, is a daughter of the BOB winner, and has inherited many of her fathers qualities. She has a strong, yet feminine, correct houndy head, a dark almond eye, strong jaw and a typical Dachshund expression. She is beautifully constructed and angulated thoroughout, has a prominent, well developed forechest, shoulder is well laid back with neat fitting elbows. Her ribs are well sprung and carried well back to a short, strong loin into a broad, well developed hind quarters, good bend of stifle and super hammy thighs that have good width and depth. She has good bone and neat feet and moved out around the ring with enthusiasm, head held high on a free and easy stride, displaying plenty of reach and drive. She is a beautifully balanced looking puppy free from exaggeration and although she still has some maturing to do, everything is in the right place for this to happen. I'm sure she must have a very bright future. BP, RBB.

JB 1 Hunt's Lauralee Miss Marple At Carpaccio JW ShCM. 17 mth b/t, another lovely bitch who is a daughter of my BOB winner and she has also inherited many of her fathers qualities, also built on classic lines with plenty of breed type to give her a lovely balanced and elegant outline. She has beautifully constructed and angulated front and hindquarters, she has a lovely conical houndy head, a dark almond shaped eye and good reach of neck. She has a prominent and well developed oval forechest with good ground clearance and width and length through to keel. Her shoulder is nicely laid back with well sprung ribs that have plenty of depth and length. She has a short, strong loin a broad well developed rump, good bend of stifle and lovely hammy thighs that have plenty of depth and width. She has good bone and neat feet allowing her to move out with a free and easy stride, displaying forward reach and strong rear drive, maintaining her topline and was sound and parallel out and back. She was presented in tip top condition her coat was gleaming, and she is not over done or exaggerated in any way.
