Thank you to The Officers & Committee for inviting me to judge at this prestigious show. I was scheduled to judge this variety at W.K.C. during the covid period which for obvious reasons I never got to judge so I was very much looking forward to have this opportunity. Some classes I have to say were lacking in quality but I was able to easily lay hands over all the exhibits without any problem of temperaments. Thanks also to my two excellent stewards and all who entered today. The majority accepting my decisions with grace and good sportsmanship.
I found it difficult to judge to type in todays entry and found this so in my line ups for the challenge but my top awards filled my interpretation of the breed standard.
Now that judges must complete a health questionnaire on completion of judging many exhibitors were surprised that I was checking inside ears for infection & cleanliness. This has been widely publicised recently so exhibitors should be well aware, sadly I found many with waxy ears but pleasingly none looked infected. Several had dandruff and were not in the best of coat condition.
1. Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) - Special Beginners Dog
Entries: 4 Absentees: 1
1ST 43 - From Eversden Dachs Heart of Gold for Preziosa (Imp Bgr) (Miss C & Mrs L Ratsey-Woodroffe & Rippon) pleasing for size, good clean level top line, well set neck, balance of skull & jaw were good, in good red coat, has a pleasing eye set & shape, correct feet
2ND 54 - Withywindles The Emperor (Miss J Steele) good coated chocolate taller than 1 & not as positive in top line, would like better feet, tail of good length, correctly set on & carried, scored well in his strength of jaw with correct dentition.
3RD 34 - Don Pedro Ii Das Terras Do Cannis Lupus (Mr R Macdonald)
2. Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) - Minor Puppy Dog

1ST 14 - Scipsar Just Give Me A Reason (Mrs J & Mrs P Halsall & Hughes) quite impressive and mature this dark brindle was in top condition with gleaming coat condition, liked his head & has a good strong jaw, well set ears, his neck flows into well placed shoulders, correct width in front & fore chest developing well, good ground clearance & excellent top line, well developed ribbing & good length of loin, well set tail & correct feet, moved well & particularly in his rear,
4. Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) - Junior Dog
Entries: 5 Absentees: 1
1ST 3 - Rayol Dallas Cowboys at Jaxinorydax (Miss E Ashby) this boy stood out on the stack but then took time to settle into himself on the move, glad he eventually did to take the class. Has an appealing head shape with correctly set eye & ear, once settled uses his front more than 2nd did, still filling out in ribbing, slight arch over loin of good length, well placed hocks & not exaggerated. Front feet need to tighten.
2ND 23 - Longmel Courvoisier Truffle (Mrs F M Hinwood) correct in balance & size, moved soundly fore & aft just not the reach in front of 1st, has a pleasing head shape with well set ears, good top & under line, carries his tail correctly, with maturity should do well.
3RD 16 - Daxanory Menacing Awesome (Miss K J Heels)
RES 55 - Rayol Buffalo Bill (Mr J Tite)
5. Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) - Novice Dog
Entries: 2 Absentees: 0
1ST 54 - Withywindles The Emperor (Miss J Steele)
2ND 34 - Don Pedro Ii Das Terras Do Cannis Lupus (Mr R Macdonald) pale red this mature male was carrying a little too much weight today & ribbing was over sprung, despite this managed to hold a firm top line, moved better in front than in rear, Has a balanced head with good eye.

1ST 30 - Cwmdarhian Gordon Ramsay (Miss T & Mr C & Mrs R Jones & Moes & Williams) all male who appealed for his outline on first impression then catches your eye for his sound free flowing movement. Has strength of jaw, good bite, balance of skull & the desired conical shape of head, good ear size & placement, owner moves him to perfection, in good body shape with firm top line & slight arch over loin, good stifle & hocks, well set tail of good length. Pale red coat looks like he is changing coat at the moment but could not be denied Res C.C. & should make up.
2ND 38 - Cedavoch Rohan (L Mcnaughton) liked this bl/tan a lot & pushed hard for top place, everything to like in conformation just thought he was slightly unsettled in his environment today & not relaxing. Shame as he is a quality top drawer hound. Desirable head piece, lovely eye & ear, strong well set neck, correct in shoulder & upper arm, good keel, has correct feet, scores well in top & under line, just wanted to see that confidence come through.
3RD 48 - Jacksondax Hornet Hurrah at Trisensara JW (Mrs S J Rycroft)
RES 53 - Carpaccio Magnum Pi at Hamoura (Mrs W Starkey)
VHC 25 - Carpaccio Red Knight (Mr J E Hunt)

1ST 28 - Marvale’s Manifesto at Jenivon (Mrs J Jennings) exactly what I was looking for today and is all male with that lovely bold confident temperament. Took it all in his stride and performed to perfection. Lovely flowing conformation to handle from his lovely head piece right through to his sound hocks, correct feet, gleaming smooth bl/tan coat & muscular condition. Nothing exaggerated but would not want him any bigger. Easy decision for my top award & this C.C. I am told gave him his well deserved title, well done. Delighted to watch him take BIS, under a highly respected breed judge. well done.
2ND 68 - Ch Cwmdarhian Super Mario (Mrs R & Mr C Williams & Moes) red male also in top condition and I see is litter brother to my Res C.C. winner. Quite similar in many aspects but prefer the rear movement of his brother. Has a super head, strong well placed neck into good shoulder, correct ribbing & strong loin, has good feet & carries his tail correctly.
3RD 36 - Cedavoch Calenhad (L Mcnaughton)
RES 563 - Neithund Angus at Raajput (Dr M Chauhan)

9. Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) - Veteran Dog
Entries: 1 Absentees: 0
1ST 26 - Ch Lauralee Huckleberry Finn at Carpaccio JW (Mr J E Hunt) seven & half yr old who was full of vigour & moved well, like the size & still holds a firm level top line, in good coat, would like a shade more width in front, well set hocks & has good tail set.
10. Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) - Baby Puppy Dog
Entries: 2 Absentees: 0
1ST 64 - Wanderhund for My Next Trick (Mr B & Mrs V Wand) 4 month old bl/tan moved so well for young age & was happy in his surroundings, considering how noisy the hall was these youngsters coped very well. Difficult to judge as at this age they are very much out of proportion but show good potential. Well shaped skull & jaw with good eye shape, ears a little unsettled which is understandable, good feet, raw in ribbing still,
2ND 49 - Wanderhund Grand Illusion (Mrs K L Sandell) litter brother to 1, same notes as above just at this stage prefer size of 1, he is slightly bigger framed but all could change.
11. Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) - Baby Puppy Bitch
Entries: 2 Absentees: 1
1ST 65 - Wanderhund Put A Spell On You (Mr B & Mrs V Wand) same litter & not the confidence of her brothers, this one will be a handful I feel until she wants to co-operate. Good luck & have fun. Lovely shaped head, like her shoulder & upper arm placement, slightly longer cast in body than brothers. Happy vigorous movement.
12. Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) - Special Beginners Bitch
Entries: 1 Absentees: 0
1ST 67 - Raajput’s Canadian Winter with Wakywilks (Miss C & Mr A Wilkinson & Wakeham) 2 yr old bl/tan with well balanced skull & jaw of conical shape with well set ears, reasonable ribbing but slightly lon in her loin, moved well in front but slightly close in her rear, good glossy coat.
13. Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) - Minor Puppy Bitch
Entries: 3 Absentees: 0
1ST 41 - Luckytails Skye at Zorionadax (Mrs N Parker) was an easy winner in this class who stood out on first impression & not disappointed to handle, well bodied for young age with good rib & loin, glossy bl/tan coat, moving soundly & precise for young age, well set tail which is carried correctly, promising prospect.
2ND 59 - Jaxinorydax Beautiful Lies for Damoradaxies (Mrs K Turton) still very raw in development but has personality plus and was thoroughly enjoying the experience which is paramount at this age. Bl/tan glossy coat, has good strength of jaw & pleasing eye shape, well set rear used soundly on move, needs to strengthen in front action.
3RD 44 - Hampdach Eternal Venus for Preziosa** (Miss C & Mrs L Ratsey-Woodroffe & Rippon)
14. Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) - Puppy Bitch

1ST 20 - Empetthounds Galatians to Leveliss (Mr P A Higgins) chocolate who was just so appealing for size, balance & in the hardest of condition, so sound all through & has to be handled to appreciate her conformation, nothing exaggerated, desirable almond shaped eye, strong jaw with correct dentition, firm level top line, firm loin of good length, correct fore chest & like her width both front & rear, well set tail which is correctly carried.
2ND 4 - Rayol Pumpkin Pie at Jaxinorydax (Miss E Ashby) another of quality this red bitch has a desirable head & most lovely profile when stacked, took a while to settle on the move, pleasing top & under line, correct tail set & carriage, when settles on the move should have a bright future.
3RD 61 - Empetthounds Genesis Into Tiffwazz (Mrs K S Valentine)
RES 19 - Daxanory Ravishing Rose (Miss K J Heels)
VHC 46 - Rayol Cherry Pancake (Mrs E & Miss C Roberts & Smith)
16. Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) - Novice Bitch
Entries: 2 Absentees: 0
1ST 47 - Chidax Sahara Sand by Trisensara JW (Mrs S J Rycroft) pleasing sized red who has good keel length but slightly wide in front coming towards me on move, well shaped head, pleasing feet, holds a firm top line, strong loin with correct tail placement.
2ND 22 - Longmel Cococabana (Mrs F M Hinwood)prefer the shoulder & upper arm of this one but needs to gain confidence & lost out on movement as totally unsettled, pleasing head & neck, firm top line, in good coat bl/tan.
17. Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) - Post Graduate Bitch
Entries: 7 Absentees: 1
1ST 45 - Craimose Aquilegia for Rayol (Mrs E & Miss C Roberts & Smith) such a happy disposition & has that look at me attitude the move, has a well shaped conical head with well set eye & ears, firm level top line with slight arch over her firm loin, good hard muscular condition, well set hocks & stands parallel
2ND 35 - Melisdax Mischief in May (Miss L & Mrs J & Mrs L Macdonald & Macdonald & Coxon) bl/tan gleaming coat with most desirable head, liked her ribbing but a shade shorter loin would be preferable, correct feet, well placed rear & tail, I see is litter sister to 3rd who I liked a lot but today was lacking in enthusiasm & boldness.
3RD 58 - Melisdax Memories of May (Mrs S E Tomlinson)
RES 4 - Rayol Pumpkin Pie at Jaxinorydax (Miss E Ashby)
VHC 60 - Amlida Tamora to Tiffwazz (Mrs K S Valentine)
18. Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) - Limit Bitch
Entries: 8 Absentees: 3
1ST 57 - Melisdax Magnolia in May (Mrs S E Tomlinson) lovely coat on this pale red, in excellent condition & loved her slim but firm body lines, correct ribbing & loin, excellent top & under line, moved at correct pace she never put a foot wrong, feel with more maturity will be top grade, she is ultra feminine & nothing is exaggerated.
2ND 33 - Hampdach Alice Springs at Bensarka (Miss L K & Mrs J C Macdonald) a shade larger all through than 1st but in proportion, well set jaw & has good eye & ear, firm in neck to pleasing shoulder & upper arm, elbows well held to body without restriction on move, gleaming glossy red coat.
3RD 51 - Gobannium Made of Honour JW (Mr M D & Mrs T A Stark)
RES 37- Cedavoch Lothlorien (L. McNaughton)
VHC 12 - Craimose Freesia (Mr & Mrs D M Gentle)
19. Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) - Open Bitch
Entries: 9 Absentees: 1 A quality class to judge & the first three I would have happily awarded top honours.
1ST 42 - Cwmdarhian The Mistress (Mr P & Mr B Paterson) judged her at an open show as a raw puppy & liked her then where she did well. So pleasing to see her now fully mature & has reached her potential. Has the most lovely conformation & head of correct conical shape, firm top line & correct ground clearance, well placed shoulder & corresponding upper arm, has a rear in harmony with front so movement was a joy to see, correct feet & her bl/tan coat is gleaming, hard muscular condition. To top all this her friendly jolly temperament is a true joy to see. Litter sister to my Res C.C. winner in males & I was delighted to award her the C.C. today which was her third so is now a worthy Champion.
2ND 27 - Clentry Sweet Melody (Mrs J Jennings) pale red in good coat, particularly liked her size & profile balance. Lovely flowing lines when handling & moves with precision & putting in minimum effort. Good length of keel, correct width front & rear, hocks stood firm & not exaggerated which gave her strength, in hard muscular condition, pleasing feet & her tail was correctly set & carried.
3RD 15 - Ch Bronia Solar Flare (Mrs F Hanney-Mitchell)
RES 50 - Adnerbs Won Vision of Gobannium JW OSW (Mr M D & Mrs T A Stark)
VHC 562 - Ch Adnerbs Take A Chance On Me at Raajput (Dr M Chauhan)
20. Dachshund (Smooth-Haired) - Veteran Bitch
Entries: 4 Absentees: 1
1ST 63 - Wanderhund California Girl (Mr B & Mrs V Wand) 7 & ½ yr old gleaming coated bl/tan who although a shade heavy for me over her shoulder stood out for her sound front & rear movement, excellent rib & firm loin of good length & has slight arch over, has the best of quarters which push her well forward on the move, correct tail set & carried correctly, shows herself well and the word sound comes to mind. Res C.C.
2ND 24 - Longmel Special Truffle (Mrs F M Hinwood) red coated bitch a little heavy in body weight today, has a good head with pleasing ear set, almond eye shape, not the top line of 1 due to weight, has well shaped feet, moved well with precision. Won over 3 on body length who for me is exaggerated.
3RD 39 - Ch Matzell Martha (Miss M Norton)
