To be asked to judge is always an honour but to be invited by a 'parent' club is certainly something special. The thing that makes judging Wires unique is their outgoing temperament & personality, here was no exception from minor puppies through to the golden oldies all being very much pleased to see the judge & show off their many qualities & virtues. I last judged Wire's at Southern Counties in 2015 & previous to that at The Hound Association in 2013, looking back through these appointments & the entry that was presented to me here I think its fair to say that from my results you can see the type of Wire that appeals to me & indeed several kennels are consistent in their results. In reflection I had 67 exhibits entered today, I found the males tough going & had to forgive  more than I would have hoped & take in the overall package, some really lovely bitches to go over especially in the younger classes where several will certainly have a great future as they mature. My BCC winner indeed is 11 years old but without any doubt is quite something special, if you know & appreciate Dachshund construction this golden girl is certainly an object lesson & indeed the blue print of our standard of points. The majority of coats where in great condition (presumably having just had Crufts) & most where hard in condition & muscle tone This variety are blessed with good heads, fabulous bone & feet, very good ribbing & in the main well made quarters. Shoulder angulation continues to be a problem which results in a poor upper arm. A thoroughly enjoyable relaxing day's judging, Secretary Anne Moore & President Jane Naylor had everything in order with their hard working committee, my thanks to my steward Elizabeth Harrap for her expertise & company & to have Lesley Patton & Stephanie Goddard as my co-judges was the icing on the cake making this assignment even more special

V D/B (3,1 abs), 1 & BCC, Maes-Jones & Bates' Ch Derochaise Black Orchid, most beautiful ultra feminine 11 year old in wonderful condition. Her construction is near perfection & resembles the blue print of our standard of points that you would expect to see on any Dachshund of any coat or size. Any one who knows how a Dachshund is made correctly would find her hard to get passed. I have to confess that I remember seeing her as a youngster but have no memory of seeing her in recent years. For those of you who appreciate a very good Dachshund here is exactly what we should all be looking & aiming for. From the tip of her nose to the end of her tail she is near perfection, type, balance, angles & ratio's she has it all & to top it off she is a lovely size & so elegant with it too. For me one of the greats & certainly will rank as one of the best ever Dachshunds that I have had the pleasure of judging. On the final run off for BOB it was only the freshness & vitality of her Yearling kennel mate that beat her. Delighted to see her go onto BVIS under Stephanie Goddard. Thank you for the absolute pleasure of being given the opportunity to examine & appreciate her. 2, Weatherer's Salixian Levante Via Itsuitzuz, I love this boy, at 7 years he is so full of energy & eager to please, his character is delightful. He too is very well made throughout, in great coat & condition & his size & proportions are ideal. Loved his head & expression, long well arched neck lead into good shoulders, wonderful bone & feet, very good body with ribbing that extends well back, short firm loins lead into well angulated quarters with strong firm parallel hocks. He is ultra sound coming & going & moves out so well in profile. A treat to judge & I'm sure an absolute delight to live with!

Good Citizen D/B (1), 1, Salixian Levante Via Itsuitzuz

MPD (4,1), 1, Davies' Atahira Cantata, real floppy baby at just 6 months. This red is so full of potential, loved his type & overall proportions, lovely head & expression with dark points & almond eyes. Long elegant neck lead into good shoulders, very good legs & feet, well developed body for his age with ribbing extending well back on a good topline, short loins with tail correctly set. Well made quarters with enough angulation. Coming & going he is quite sound even at this stage & in profile he shows off the potential that he certainly has with reach & drive. His coat & presentation was perfection. A delightful raw baby that I'm sure & hope will go far. 2, Frampton's Weinacht Larch, another raw baby, slightly more of him in all departments, loved his head & expression, long well arched neck, plenty of fore chest on super legs with ample bone. Ribbing is deep, oval & long & has a cast iron topline, tail is correctly set & carried & his hocks are strong. Still not precise coming & going as you would expect but gives a good account in profile where he already looks elegant & a born showman. Just needs to firm up & not grow any more. Another in great coat. 3, Effer's Greyhayne Hector

PD (6), 1 BP & BPIS, Adams' Tecklegarth Gatling, impressive baby that already looks & shows like a seasoned campaigner. He without any doubt is all male!. Good strong head with dark almond shaped eye's. Ears correctly set & of the length that I like to see. Lovely long well arched neck that he uses to project himself so well with on the move, well muscled shoulders, plenty of fore chest with his keel extending well back, loved his bone & chunky feet, well developed body with deep oval ribbing on a solid topline. His loins are short & solid & lead into well made quarters with correct length of second thigh on strong firm hocks. He gives his age away coming & going where today he was moving as I expect a baby to move. Its in profile that he is so impressive, his outline & carriage certainly make you look twice & he is a born showman. Certainly an exciting baby that I hope has done all his growing & not peaked too soon. Presented in first class order & delighted to see him go onto BPIS, congratulations. 2, Weinacht Larch. 3, Phillips' Royal Pepper's Vice Versa (Imp Fin)

JD (5,1), 1, Langridge's Calicoe Thank God It's Friday, this 12 month red boy certainly appealed, loved his type & movement in profile. Very good head & expression, dark points throughout, long well arched neck lead into very good shoulders, tight elbows & correct angles. Plenty of width throughout with a good prominent breast bone. Good ribbing with correct top & underlines, a little long in body but everything is in proportion, firm loins lead into very good well made hind quarters, strong & neat parallel hocks. He is ultra sound coming & going & in profile moves out freely on a loose lead showing a very promising outline. Looking like a teenager as they do but certainly one that impressed for his overall construction & breed type. Full of promise. 2, Chambers' Cishelvine Just A Kiss, another very nice youngster, the muscles & condition on him was fantastic, loved his head & expression, long elegant neck lead into good shoulders although not quite the layback of 1, good length of ribbing that is deep & well sprung, correct height to length ratio's, short firm loins lead into well made quarters, firm & solid. His hocks are solid with no sign of weakness & parallel Not as precise as 1 coming towards me today but ultra sound moving away. Gives a good account in profile where his drive from behind really draws your eye. Another in great coat. 3, Graham's Brumberhill Armstrong

YD (2), 1, DCC, BOB & RBIS, Maes-Jones & Bates' Derochaise Manhatton, Impressive to look at & examine, 19 month B/T that appealed for his overall type & outline. He is solid in condition & has the most amazing coat. He certainly gives a good account of himself both standing & on the move, everything he does is done so effortlessly & his lovely elegant outline never falters. Beautiful head & expression, dark oval expressive eyes, strong jaws & lovely furnishings, long well arched neck lead into good shoulders, tight elbows, plenty of width throughout with enough fore chest that fits so neatly, loved his legs & scummy feet. He excels in body, ribbing is deep, oval & extends well back with fabulous top & underlines, short strong loins lead into very well made hind quarters, lovely length of second thigh on the neatest, shortest set of parallel hocks. His 'bum' is delightful, round & hammy & his tail is so well set & carried at all times. Ultra sound coming & going & projects himself so well in profile covering the ground with little effort. A very smart young dog where his virtues by far out weigh his faults, lovely to look at from any angle & presented in faultless condition. Ultra smart youngster that should continue to go onto bigger things under those who know & appreciate a good Wire, congratulations. 2, Stockdale's Derochaise Monterey At Fernwires, another impressive youngster, slightly longer in body & not as free moving in profile as 1 today. Lovely head & expression, well arched neck lead into very good shoulders, correct layback & angles, tight elbows with correct length of upper arm, very good legs & feet, good body & ribbing, firm backline, solid loins, another well made behind with good strong hocks. He too is ultra sound coming & going & keeps a lovely outline in profile, just needing to open his gait a little more which he may well do out on grass. Great in coat & condition & his type really appeal's. Another quality young man

PGD (3), 1, Vig's Q-Rrens-Dax Enzo-Topazo, loved his outline on the stack & his coat & condition was second to none. Very good head & eye, good strong jaws, well arched neck, good shoulders, very good legs & feet. Enough fore chest & keel extends well back. Good body & ribbing with short firm loins. Loved his hind quarters, his angulation is practically perfection with strong & firm parallel hocks. Today he was tending to 'poke' on the move which I'm sure impacted on what I witnessed from his up & down, his outline in profile was there to see in glimpses & he did more than enough to win this class. Another who I feel would benefit more & give a better account of himself outside on grass, certainly a quality one. 2, Will's Cicelane Magnus, another with a fabulous coat & in hard condition, good head & expression, enough neck leading into well laid shoulders although his elbows could be tighter. Longer in body than 1 but all in proportion, correct top & underlines, so well made in quarters with good length of second thigh, good strong neat hocks & moving away he was quite precise although a shade sloppy coming towards me today. Makes a good account of himself in profile, just needing to loose a little weight which will improve his already very good outline. 3, Fitches' Derochaise Master Design

LD (8,1), 1, Vine's Cishelvine Caught Out, quite a long boy but in proportion & his angulation fore & aft are perfect. Loved his head & masculine expression, long well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, absolutely correct angles, tight elbows on very good legs & feet. Plenty of width throughout, prominent breast bone, keel extends well back, very good length of ribbing that is deep & well sprung, cast iron topline with good underline. Solid loins lead into beautifully angulated quarters, strong hocks show no sign of weakness. So very sound coming & going & projects himself so well in profile with a lovely neck carriage & in movement clearly displays correct reach & follow through from behind. In great coat & hard as nails, 2, Gibson's Allfreys London Look, shorter coupled & not as exaggerated as 1, lovely size & proportions. Loved his head & expression with dark points throughout, enough neck leading into good shoulders although his angles where not quite as precise as 1. Very good legs & feet with plenty of width throughout, very good body & ribbing which is deep & well sprung. Short strong loins leading into well made quarters with enough angulation. Hocks are short, neat & parallel. So sound coming & going & really strides out well in profile covering plenty of ground with ease. He certainly gives the impression that he could move all day & his coat & overall condition was beautiful. 3, Adams' Planetary Shoot From The Hip JW

OD ( 3,1), 1 & RDCC, Vine's Derochaise Justified For Cishelvine, judged him as a raw baby & liked him then, he certainly has grown into a handsome male, he would I think appeal more to the old established breeders more as he initially gives you the impression that he is ' Long, low & level'. In fact he is beautifully made & proportioned throughout & for me has the desired height to length ratio's. Stunning head & expression, correct length from muzzle to skull, long well arched neck that he uses so well on the move, perfect shoulders, tight elbows carrying plenty of fore chest with plenty of width. Beautiful body & proportions, excellent ribbing that extends well back, cast iron topline which never falters, loins are short & strong & his hind quarters are well made with the desired angulation. Ultra sound out & back, his profile action draws your eye & he is the ultimate showman. Fabulous coat & condition, his type & overall make & shape should make him extremely useful to the breed I would think. Lovely dog. 2, Gibson's Allfreys Here's Lookin At You, shade taller & shorter coupled, good head & expression, enough neck which he uses so proudly on the move, shoulders not quite as precise as 1 & not the bone or feet. His breast bone is prominent & keel does extend well back. His body & proportions are good, ribbing is deep, broad & well sprung, firm topline, short solid loins, well muscled quarters with firm & neat parallel hocks. Ultra sound going away although not as precise as 1 coming towards me today, keeps an elegant outline in profile & he too can cover some ground effortlessly. Super coat & furnishings

MPB (7, 3), 1, Pughe & Fraser's Greyhayne Harriet At Bystock, such the showgirl even at this tender age!, ultra feminine with attitude plus. Really lovely head & expression, ample neck leading into very good shoulders & layback for her age, good legs & feet, prominent breast bone, ribbing is long & extends well back on a firm backline, short in loins & so well made in hind quarters on short neat little hocks. So sound coming & going for a baby & her happy personality shines through in profile where she clearly moves out freely without a care in the world keeping an attractive outline. Full of promise & such a delightful character. 2, Rankine's Allfreys Me And My Girl, real baby, full of promise, loved her ultra feminine head & expression, dark points & lovely dark almond shaped eyes, well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, lovely neat tightly bunched feet, plenty of width throughout, good length of ribbing with correct top & underlines, well made quarters with enough angulation which she uses so well on the move. Still full of puppy sloppiness coming & going but does her piece well in profile clearly already showing her potential in profile for a great mover. Coat & presentation was superb. 3, Dean's Atahira Mocha Surprise For Brontwillow

PB (4), 1, Coverley's Aventine Dolcetto, Compact & chubby!. Going over her on the table your hands just flow with everything knitting together so well. Her head & expression is really quite beautiful, long well arched neck lead into very good shoulders, tight elbows on good legs & feet. She has width throughout  with ample fore chest & good keel. Her ribbing is long & already deep & well sprung with correct top & underlines, short solid loins with tail correctly set & carried. Lovely well made quarters on neat firm hocks. Ultra sound coming & going for one so young & can certainly cover some ground in profile clearly showing correct reach in front & follow through from behind. Full of promise & I'm sure plenty of exciting days to come her way!. 2, Phillips' Clipperdown Gilded Lily, such a showgirl & has the most fabulous coat. Shade more ground clearance throughout than 1 but in proportion, lovely head & expression with dark points throughout, long well arched neck, tight elbows with enough fore chest, ribbing is well developed & extends well back, short strong loins leading into well developed hind quarters which she uses so well on the move. So very sound for a youngster coming & going & can really cover the ground in profile which she does with great style. In great coat & in hard muscular condition. 3, Allfreys Me And My Girl

JB (4), Coverley's Aventine Amarela, sister to the puppy winner & so similar in so many ways, same beautiful type, she too is so good to go over on the table, that beautiful feminine head & expression is just lovely to see, enough neck leading into good shoulders although not quite the layback yet as her sister, very good legs & tight feet, her body proportions are lovely, her ribbing is deep & oval with good top & underlines, thick loins lead into beautifully made hind quarters, correct length of second thigh on the neatest of shortest parallel hocks. Quite sound coming & going & in profile she gives a very pleasing picture. She certainly has plenty to offer & like her sister I'm sure she will have many exciting days to come her way, lovely. 2, Newman's Woferlow Aurora, ultra smart to look at from any angle, lovely head & expression, good strong jaws, well arched neck leading into good shoulders, tight elbows with good legs & furnishings, good body & ribbing with correct top & underlines, short loins lead into well developed quarters though not quite the angulation of 1. However she does use what she has with great effect. Her hocks are strong & parallel Ultra sound moving away but not quite precise coming towards me today. Lovely in profile with a super outline that's helped by her natural head carriage Lovely for size & type & so full of promise. 3, Chambers' Barembak Midsummer Moon

YB (1), 1, Vine's Cishelvine Can't Catch Me, such an elegant young lady, she maybe a trifle long in body for some but she is certainly all in proportion. Beautiful head & expression, lovely dark almond shaped eyes & lovely furnishings to match. Long elegant well arched neck lead into very good shoulders with correct angles. Plenty of fore chest that all sits & fits correctly, her keel extends well back, firm backline, short strong loins that lead into well angulated quarters. Her hocks are strong & show no sign of weakness. Ultra sound coming & going & projects herself well in profile keeping a lovely elegant outline. A real showgirl who can certainly cover some ground & in great style

PGB (5,2), 1 & RBCC, Gibson's Allfreys Helena, I found this young lady quite exceptional in all departments, not only was she a delight to go over but its her easy moving gait & style that consistently draws your eye. The more she moves the more you can't take your eyes off her. No exaggeration, all in proportion, beautiful type, lovely coat & hard in condition. She certainly is a very good Dachshund. Lovely feminine head & melting expression, ears correctly set & correct in length, long defined neck which she uses to her advantage, very good shoulders on very good legs & feet. Plenty in front with plenty of width, her keel extends well back into a lovely underline with decent ribbing & firm backline, short firm loins lead into very good well made hammy quarters, hocks are neat & strong, soundest of movers coming & going & just glides in profile, full of energy giving the impression that she could work all day. Pushed the BCC winner all the way because of her youthfulness & attitude & it was close. On this performance & with judges who can appreciate a good well made Dachshund she should fly her way to the top, good luck!. 2, Newman's Barembak Dellamarie, another who I really liked, she has great shoulders too, in fact the girls overall where better constructed in front than the boys. Very good head & expression, well arched neck leading into the most lovely well made front with feet to die for!. Good body & ribbing, shorter coupled throughout than 1 but in proportion, she has enough angulation behind to do what she needs to do & her hocks are strong & parallel. So very sound coming & going & gave a good account in profile although not quite opening her gait in the same way as 1. Certainly a quality girl that should prove useful. 3, Horne's Salixian Cafe Noir

LB, (7,1), 1, Hutching's Tendrow I Am The One From Collidach JW, in tip top condition & presented to perfection, yet another beauty with correct shoulders & headed a very good class of bitches. Good head & expression with the desired length from muzzle to skull & the deepest, darkest oval eyes. Well arched neck leading into perfect angles & shoulder layback. Plenty of width with a good prominent breast bone. Very good tightly bunched feet, her body is long but in proportion & her ribbing is long, deep & extends well back on a good backline. Her loins are thick & strong & her tail correctly set & carried at all times. Hind angulation is good with enough to help her drive on the move. Moving today she was  quite parallel & in profile she is a power house full of determination & clearly on a mission to go places. In my mind she was certainly one that challenged hard in the final run off & on this performance will hopefully continue & have an exciting summer. 2, Davies' Pendyffren Miss Dolce By Atahira, loved this two year red who ran 1 very close, another lovely type & in hard condition with a super coat & furnishings to match. Lovely head & dark eye, well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, tight elbows, plenty of fore chest & width, her ribbing is long & well sprung with correct top & underlines, short thick loins lead into well made quarters, her hocks are strong & neat, moving away & back she wasn't quite as precise here as 1 but she certainly excels in profile keeping a beautiful outline, her elegant neck carriage with good reach & follow through enabling her to cover the ground with some ease. One that I really liked too. 3, Vine's Cishelvine Just An Enigma

OB. ( 4,1). 1, Warren's Ch Wagsford Jennifer, I really loved this bitch & why wouldn't I?. My last two appointments have seen me award a CC to a Wagsford bitch. This one was new to me but impressed my in so many ways, she is so beautifully made from the tip of her nose to the end of her tail. Lovely head & feminine expression, long well arched neck leading into copy book shoulders, tight elbows on very good legs & feet. Very good width throughout with her fore chest fitting so well. Her keel extends well back on very good ribbing that is deep, well sprung & extends well back. Strong topline with tail that is correctly set & carried at all times. Her loins are short & thick & her hind angulation is near perfection. Moving away she drives soundly from her neat hocks & was indeed sound enough coming towards me on the most beautiful feet. In profile her outline never falters & her carriage & style will always make you look twice. Today when it came to my final awards I just felt that her coat was due to be stripped & her muscle tone could have been harder. Nevertheless a beauty that I really rated & on form would be extremely hard to get past. 2, Wharton's Greyhayne Black Velvet, nice type, shorter & more compact throughout. Good head & expression, enough neck that she uses so well at all times. Good shoulders although not the precise angles of 1, good length of ribbing & firm topline, short in loins with just enough angulation in the quarters. Hocks are strong with no sign of weakness. Not as precise as 1 coming & going although gives a pleasing picture in profile. In great coat & hard in condition. 3, Phillip's Tendrow Time 'N' Time Again
