Dachshund Club of Wales 2002

BEST IN SHOW

I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for this Club’s shows, having shown at their first Open Show judged at their first Championship Show and was lucky enough to win BIS at last year’s event. From the line up of seven I thought two stood away and they could have placed either way around, so it was down to their performance “on the day”.

BIS was Coxon’s Min Smooth D’Arisca Germandachs Sweet And Low. Imp. A B/T bitch of nearly two who was bred in Germany from English bred parents. Such a neat size and so well made with most of the desired Dachshund characteristics wrapped up in a small package. Her presence and showmanship enhanced her virtues as she took command of the ring both standing and on the move.

Res BIS was Swann and Roberts’ Rodima Gold Mist Over Swansford. A well grown, oval fronted rich clear red Long with lovely thick hammy quarters. Nowhere near the presence of the winner and it turned out that she was at her first show at nearly 11 months. (I hadn’t asked ages, an irrelevance at this level when you are just looking for the best dog). When she’s learned her craft she’ll be a hard nut to crack.

BPIS was the Long and Reserve was Jensen’s Min Long Albaney’s Skoda. Like the cars she’ll have the last laugh! Very well made 9 month black and cream with a delightful temperament. Like the previous two she scored in her shoulder placement and front construction on a day when I found that end of the dogs sadly lacking.
