Southern Dachshund Club 2008
BEST IN SHOW
Championship Show I very much enjoyed my day with the Southern Dachshund Association at Swindon where the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming and a credit to the officers and committee. In my opinion the breed judges sent through some excellent dogs for me to consider and I was impressed with the line up and was splitting hairs for my final decisions. I was pleased to award Best in Show to Am.Ch. Jagie's I Love The Night Life who gained his 3rd ticket on the day. A well balanced, elegant, quality smooth red boy presented in gleaming condition and of good size with nothing overdone and a great outline when stacked. Good conical head, typically American, with correct dark eyes and haughty expression. Nice reach of neck and well placed shoulders, prominent forechest, well ribbed and firm backline. Correct angulation which he used to the full when driving round the ring. Well handled and presented. Simply asked for his award today. Reserve Best in Show was Ch.Aventine Rainman at Romanchi a 16 month smart brindle wire with great ring presence for his age. Strong, masculine head, good shoulders, front construction and body shape. Well balanced all through and well presented. Moved soundly and steadily, especially in profile, keeping his good outline, just needs to strengthen a little in rear movement. That will come with time. Best Puppy in Show was Cedavoch Honour Bound a happy 9 month b/t smooth boy well off for bone and depth of body without being coarse or overdone. Correct masculine head, good reach of neck, well placed shoulders and good rear angulation which he used to advantage on the move. Will follow his career with interest. I later found out that he is a grandson of Yatesbury Jackanory owned by Pam Sydney who was President of the Southern Dachshund Association but who sadly passed away on Christmas Day. She would have been thrilled at the pup's success today. What a fitting end to her Yatesbury Smooths. For Reserve Best Puppy in Show it was a close decision between the miniature smooth and the long. I finally chose Loxbar Rubi Muri Darsoms an 8 month b/t elegant long whose rear movement was more positive. Feminine head, good reach of neck and well placed shoulders. Good overall body condition and handled herself well in the big ring. Would like to see a touch more angulation but nevertheless moved out well with drive.
