Miniature Dachshund Club 2012

Judge: Anne Dunn

Best in Show

I was privileged to have been invited to judge BIS at this very well run  show, where the committee made me very welcome and looked after me throughout  the day. They had drawn a fantastic  entry without too many absentees. The weather could have prevented some people  from getting to the show, but the dogs who presented themselves in the BIS ring  were excellent examples of their breed. BIS went to the Mini Wire, Sidelock Do  I Look Bovvered, owned by Janet McLeod, beautifully presented, her coat was immaculate,  she was well off for bone, good head with a dark eye, well angulated fore and  aft, she stood four square and moved out with drive and purpose. Res BIS was  the Mini Smooth, D'arisca I Do Declare For Lovane Coxon. As one would expect  from this exhibitor, he was in immaculate condition, and was well presented. I  would have liked a little more bone and length of ribbing, as he looked over  long in the loin. Masculine head, dark eye. Nice reach of neck. Moved well. The  other exhibit was the Mini Long, whose coat was, to my mind, rather profuse and  dense. Could have carried a little more weight and was apprehensive on the  table, but had good feet and bone. BPIS was the Mini Longhaired of Helen  Geeson, Abydach Apparition. Feminine  head and expression, dark eye, very well off for bone, well padded feet and  short nails (how do they get them like this?) excellent front assembly, level  topline good length of ribbing, moved with drive and purpose. Good coat with a  well covered frame. Res BPIS was the Mini Wire of Mandy Dance, Emem Candy  Sunshine, who is well named, for she was a happy soul. Another with a good coat and well presented  with a pleasing head and expression, good reach of neck, well bodied, good  angulation fore and aft, moved out well, there was very little to separate  these two puppies, who have the same DOB, but the Mini Long just looked that  bit more mature. The Mini Smooth looked very tired, as if it had been a long  day and he needed his bed. BVIS was the Mini Long of Jean Burge and Penny Rossiter,  Rafthouse Rainbows End At Creekpit, who is just a few months into being a  veteran but she does not look it, for she moves like a two year old with drive  and extension, feminine head with a dark eye, good reach of neck, level  topline, definitely enjoys being in the ring for she moves with confidence.
