Dachshund Club of Wales 2013
Judge: Sheila Shuker
Best in Show
My thanks to the officers and committee for their warm welcome and
hospitality at the new venue in Bridgend. I had decided sometime ago to
make this my last judging appointment while I could still be considered
'fit for purpose' and it seemed apt for it to be at the Dachshund Club
of Wales as my first B.I.S.was also for this society in May 1984. Then I
gave the award to a wire dog belonging to the late Mollie Owen that
later became Ch. Quitruetec Homeward Bound. This time the B.O.B.mini-smooth
and Best Puppy in smooth and mini-smooth owned by Sue and Jason Hunt
were sportingly withdrawn and took a well deserved lap of honour,
leaving a line up of worthy B.O.B.winners and four promising puppies. My
B.I.S. was a mini-long bitch Tanmere Just Elegant, owned by Mrs Holmes
and handled by Janet Welton, beautifully constructed with sound true
movement, lovely head and eye, excellent shoulder placement and length
of upper arm, tight elbows, good ribbing, topline, hindquarters and well
presented R.B.I.S. went to Higgin's smooth Loveliss What She Said,
elegant bitch with lovely head, eye and neck, topline nice tight elbows
and excellent bunchy feet. Presented an attractive profile in stance and
on the move. Some of the puppies still needed more time so Best Puppy
went to Thorn-Andrew's mini-wire Drakesleat Scent Sybill, a very smart
bitch with great confidence, good outline and movement, lengthy neck and
correct shoulder, tight elbows and strong well muscled hindquarters. Her
tight bunchy feet just gave her the edge over the mini-long Boyle's
Doujak Erin at Zarcrest, one I liked very much with the sweetest of
heads, lovely balanced outline and movement. It was a very close
decision. Best Veteran went to another mini-long, Sainsbury's Boscolla
The Lady Isabella, a delightful bitch who belied her 12 years, well
constructed and moved beautifully. In excellent coat and condition and a
real credit to her owner and to the breed.
