I was very pleased to be asked to judge Best in show at The West of England dachshund club championship show.
I have always found this club to be exceptionally friendly and have tried to visit every show from the 1980s when I first began.
I will remember the lovely late Jane Hosegood making me feel very welcome at this Show, and you always felt you were special.
From the line up I selected for Best in Show the standard wire
Champion Tendrow Makes The Right Turn JW.
Owned by Mesdames Howlett and Phillips.
I gave this glorious wild boar girl the ticket at the hound show this year and my opinion of her has not changed. She is a lovely size and is well balanced height to length. Her head is feminine with a great expression. Super correct front with excellent bone and feet. She held a correct topline at all times and she moved with drive and purpose. Her coat was put down to the minute and as always the handling was top drawer getting the best out of her throughout.
Reserve Best in show the standard long hair
Champion Darsoms Zymystique
Owned by Mrs C Dare
This red bitch has a superior expression and head carriage and takes her job seriously! She knows she is beautiful! Not too big and not overly long with correct movement covering plenty of ground. She held her topline and is a quality girl. Today the extremely good ring presence and showiness of the wire just pipped her at the post.
Best Puppy in Show
The min wire was absent.
The standard long Breezelyn Long Awaited by Gainscroft
Owned by Miss S Vincent
This six month old red boy is an exciting prospect. Bred in the purple and displaying excellent type. Gorgeous head and eye with no exaggeration. Super front with enough forechest. Good bone, legs and feet. Well placed shoulder. Although still soft through as to expected at this age, he still moved true back and front and held a good picture in profile. Good luck with him!
Reserve Best puppy
The standard wire Tendrow Malibar
Owned by Mesdames Howlett and Phillips.
Wild boar eight months old who took the cc in his breed today. Same way bred as the BIS and what a winning formula this is turning out to be! Another of correct size and the type I love. Balanced height to length and very similar to his older sister. Just lost to the attractive long because he wasn’t quite as positive coming and going although I’m sure once muscled and matured he will be driving around the ring. Again, best of luck with this youngster.
Best Veteran in Show
Only two present and the standard wire, Anne Moore and Laura Downes,
Champion Megline Aramis, did a lap of honour and sportingly withdrew as I had travelled with the owner .
Best Veteran the miniature long haired Ridgegrove Constance at Biscolla
Owned by Dr and Mrs Sainsbury
This red twelve year old well bred girl strutted her stuff and enjoyed it all. Teeth were good as was muscle tone and condition. All credit to her owner Lovely type with correct height to length and super size. Moved true back and front keeping her shape throughout. Congratulations.
Reserve best veteran
The min smooth
Bowetts Aventurine at Stowetop
Owned by Mrs Bullingham
A nine year old red girl again in good condition. Good legs and feet. Well ribbed and correct angulation both ends. Stood true. Not quite the sparkle of the min long but well deserved her award today. Well done.
