Dachshund ( Miniature Smooth Haired)

Judge : Jean Blandford

A good entry where whilst excellent coat condition prevailed, so many lacked any muscular tone. A smooth Dachshund in hard condition is always a joy to see and worth the effort involved. The right back leg turning in very badly in some cases is still a major problem. The Standard asks for the neck to be ‘carried proudly forward’ and ‘running in graceful lines into shoulder’. This is not possible if exhibitors string them as up, as so many have started to do.

MPD (4) 1 and BP Freers’ Switherland Altarico. Neat red, well laid shoulder with tight elbows, clean legs and feet. Strong topline. True free movement both ways. Lovely size; 2 Ergis Siouxline Luke. Most elegant baby. Lovely chiselled head, good neck and again good front. Excellent condition, just needs to steady in movement.

P (1) 1 Spencer’s Calridge Piccolomini. Elegant, good neck and shoulder, good ribcage. Well balanced. Nice profile movement.

J (6) 1 Stokes’ Webbers Paddy. Balanced B/T. Nice head, good shoulder layback. Strong topline, v sound; 2 McAllisters’ Lochfyne Rakino. Elegant red with strong topline. Well ribbed. Moves nicely in profile; 3 Mitchell’s Bronia L’Infinito.

PG (7) 1 Punters’ Welcumen Whisky. What a lovely d to go over on the table. Everything as to the standard especially his front. He moved soundly and with purpose but sadly in the challenge seemed to be all over the place. Shown in really hard condition; 2 Yeomans’ Klynerbyner Noblesse Onlige. Neat little B/T. Looked so nice on the move but inclined to hunch himself standing. Lovely head and front; 3 Lukes Corrieknowe Circassian.

L (7) 1 and Res CC Sharkeys Nordach Oberon At Hyshope. Really honest hound. Beautifully constructed and moves freely and was absolutely true both ways. Would prefer a little finer head but he was so nice everywhere else; 2 Holt’s Toleva’s Trojan Prince. Does not make the most of himself standing but the more he moved the more I liked him. He scored in head, legs and lovely feet. A well balanced exhibit; 3 Bates’ Deercroft Aramis To Batendach.

O (7) 1 and CC Coxon’s Ch D’Arisca In Confidence. A joy to go over on the table. One’s hands just flow over him. Best of fronts, ribbing and quarters. Moved truly with purpose, never faltering; 2 N Oberon At H; 3 Bates’ Radclyffe Lorus To Batendach.

MPB (5) 1 Hunt’s Carpaccio Shopaholic. Nice head and neck, good top and underline. Most promising; 2 Miller and Bailey’s Palsuz Sweet Morn Prayer. Lovely size and temperament. Nice head, legs and feet, still very immature.

P (8) 1 Spencer’s Chelridge Apple Brown Betty. Elegant with lovely head and expression. She moves so truly and covers ground. Scored here on her well laid shoulder. Well muscled; 2 Munt’s Pipersvale Stella Artois. Most attractive clear red. Lovely head and body. Looks so good in profile; 3 Widdops Jondac Golden Dream.

J (15) A class of top quality b’s. 1 McAllister’s Lochfyne Sweet Breeze. Scored here on her classic head on clean neck going into well laid shoulders. Lovely profile standing and moving. V sound; 2 Metcalfe’s Bronia Saucy Sara At Metadale. Another really sound one. Looks so good going round. Best of fronts, good top and underline and really powerful quarters; 3 Gorman’s Shardagang Morning Star At Shelsall.

PG (10) 1 CC and BOB Blackburn Bennets Shardagang Pavlova. You need to put your hands on her to appreciate her beautiful construction. Lovely head and neck, well laid shoulder and excellent ribbing. On the move she is so sound and really eats up the ground. To be critical would like her carrying slightly less weight but that is easily sorted; 2 Hartley’s Lyrosh Special Edition. Elegant true moving red. Looks good in profile; 3 Seagraves’ Donnadoon Heidi.

L (12) 1 Ergis Siouxline Isabella. Most elegant B/T. Scored here on her very clean lines with no wrinkle. Good shoulder with prominent forechest. Covers the ground truly. Keeps her nice lines on the move; 2 Callows Garthorne Highlight. Lovely to go over on the table. Again well laid shoulder, strong topline, well ribbed. Nice size; 3 Hunt’s Carpaccio Travelling Light.

O (7) 1 White’s Ch Artdach Temptation. Lovely little B/T so well made with no exaggeration. Lovely head and neck, good shoulder with plenty of forechest. She keeps her lovely lines at all times. Scored here on her true front movement. In the challenge just lacked the sparkle of Pavlova; 2 Callows’ Ch Garthorne Leading Lady. Very similar to Temptation in so many ways. No wonder as they were both by Alexander who sired so many of my winners. A real Dachshund in Miniature; 3 Blackburn Bennets Ch Shardagang Memphis Belle.

V (2) 1 Melbourne Garthorne Philipps. Built on lovely lines which she keeps at all times. Nice head which flows into well laid shoulder. Nice legs and feet; 2 Yeomans’ Irish Twirl Of Klynerbyner. Sprightly chocolate shown in gleaming condition. Lovely head and neck. Rather proud of her tail.
