Three Counties 2002
Judge: Pam Poulter
Dachshund (Miniature Smooth Haired)
I was able to judge outside, the rain holding off until the very end, but the warm wet weather had meant that the grass was somewhat long, and rather uneven, which many of the exhibits found difficult to cope with especially those who were lower to ground than others. One can only judge as one sees the dogs on the day and I am sure that with much shorter grass many of my placings would have been different. Those who had been exercised on all types of terrain, were more able to cope with these conditions. All the exhibits were clean and well presented and I did not find any bad mouths or dirty teeth, none showed any signs of being nervous. I very much enjoyed the privilege of judging your dogs.
PD (5) 1. Mitchell’s Bronia L’Infinito, red brindle of lovely make and shape, masculine head good reach of neck leading to well placed shoulders, good spring of rib, short coupled with a well made rear, who coped well with the long grass. One to look out for in the future. 2. Bursey’s Hartlake Blueberry a very nice B/T who again appealed for his very good dachshund type, with good shoulders and sound rear, but lost to my winner on rear movement, but shows promise, and I felt he had more bone than three, also a nice B/T 3. Stokes’ Webbers Paddy.
JD (6) 1. Coxon’s D’Arisca Cut A Dash, promising B/T who has already made a name for himself, lovely masculine head with almond shaped eye, prominent fore chest, excellent spring of rib with a well constructed rear, good bone and feet, won the class on his slightly truer rear movement. 2. Lashbrook’s Milfer Jack The Lad, red of equally good construction, who moved well in front but was not as true in the rear, but one who should do well. Level top line both standing and on the move. Good bone and feet 3. Punter’s Welcumen Whisky.
PGD (5) 1. Sharkey’s Nordach Oberon At Hysope, red with a good masculine head and almond eye, prominent fore chest good reach of neck leading into well placed shoulders, good spring of rib and ribbing carried well back, well made quarters which he knew how to use. 2. Shuker’s Yewlitt Perry a B/T who pleased when in the stacked position, he has an excellent reach of neck and well place shoulders, ribbing is carried well back, but although he had a well constructed rear he did not use it as well as my winner, but he was more positive than three. 3. Jones’ Radclyffe Kite.
LD (5) 1. Mendes’ Scharmein Rajah a quality exhibit, with excellent construction, which he knew how to use, lovely masculine head with prominent fore chest, good spring of rib, level top line standing and moving, excellent rear construction, which enabled him to move with drive, he also had good front extension, good bone and feet. C.C. which I understand makes him up, it was a well deserved win. In the challenge for B.O.B., which came after a heavy shower, he just seemed to find the going harder, and did not move as well behind. 2. Punter’s Clipperdown Basil Welcumen, B/T who had a good masculine head with a dark almond eye, good feet and bone, good reach of neck running into well placed shoulders, good top and underline, lost out to one on front movement, did not show the front extension, but drove out well from the rear, and it was this that placed him in front of three who was also a good exhibit. 3. Holt and Evans’ Toleva Trojan Prince.
OD (5) 1. Coxon’s Ch D’Arisca In Confidence R.C.C. B/T with a good head and almond eye prominent fore chest with a good sweep of keel, his ribbing is carried well back, so he is short coupled. Excellent quarters with well let down hocks, allowing him to move with drive. I just felt he was not as good in shoulder placement as my ticket winner. 2. Hartley’s Don Perinon red who is well made and looks a picture standing, for he has a good reach of neck which leads to well placed shoulders, excellent sweep of keel and well muscled and rounded quarters, but it was his rear movement that lost him the class, but he made more of himself on the move which placed him over three. 3. Forrest’s Bute Knight In Black Satin.
PB (7) 1. Mitchell’s Bronia Luciana B.P.I.B. I really fell for this black and tan, but then I gave her dam a ticket, which is what this young lady will be doing in the near future for she is all quality, as is her brother who won puppy dog, she has a lovely feminine head excellent shoulder placement, prominent fore chest with good spring of rib, lovely quarters with well let down hocks, moved so soundly, just lacked a little in maturity in the challenge. 2. .Blackburn-Bennett’s Shardagang Pavlova red, with very good construction, prominent fore chest, level top line standing and on the move, she has a very well constructed rear end, and she moved with drive and extension, the one thing she lacked was a good length of keel as she looked rather cut up in profile. 3. Coxon’s Bedu Love Me Do
JB (7) 1. Blackburn-Bennett’s Shardagang Memphis Belle a quality red with a lovely head, dark almond eye, correctly placed shoulders prominent fore chest with an excellent sweep of keel, short coupled, well constructed rear and well let down hocks, moved soundly both fore and aft. I was pleased to hear latter that she had done so well in the junior stakes, so wish her well for the finals. 2. Metcalfe’s Bronia Saucy Sara At Metadale, red of pleasing make and shape, who has many of the same attributes as my winner, but could not quite match her for sweep of keel. This young lady coped better on the grass than three who is also a pleasing exhibit. Another who also did well in the junior stakes, which is good to hear. 3. Callow’s Garthorne Highlight.
PGB (4) 1. Ergis’
Siouxline Isabella B/T with a good reach of neck that ran into well placed
shoulders, very good sweep of keel, level top line both standing and on the
move, certainly coped well with the length of grass. 2. Hartley’s Lyrosh Special
Edition a red, with a feminine head and expression, good sweep of keel and
ribbing carried well back, not quite the shoulders of the winner, although she
had quite good quarters she lacked drive from the rear, but it was truer than
three. 3. Forrest’s Bute’s Flare About The Girl
LB (8) 1. Voaden’s Berrycourt Alicia.R.C.C. The first two were quality bitches
who I liked very much, and on another day they will change places, both have
good heads, with prominent fore chests an excellent spring of rib, which is
carried well back, well muscled hind quarters, with well let down hocks. I gave
this one the class over two as she was not so low to ground and therefore moved
with more ease than two. 2. Hunt’s Carpaccio Travelling Light. One to watch in
different conditions, but I preferred her shoulders to three. 3. Bursey’s
Berrycourt Dacing Queen At Hartlake.
OB (7) 1. Ergis’
Ch Siouxline Angelina C.C. and B.O.B., who I have judged before and liked then,
but this time she made it to the top. A lovely B/T in super condition, prominent
fore chest excellent spring of rib, which is carried well back, so is short
coupled excellent rear angulation, which enables her to move with drive from the
rear, and she extends well in the front, looks good when viewed from any angle.
2. Callow’s Ch Garthorne Leading Lady lovely B/T who seems a little smaller than
the others but is not lacking in bone or substance, I loved her feminine head
and expression, excellent shoulder placement but although she has a well
constructed rear she did not move with the freedom of my winner or the reserve
ticket winner. 3. Coxon’s D’Arisca Sweet And Low.
