Dachshund Club 2003
Judge: Wendy C Spencer
Dachshund (Miniature Smooth Haired)
I was glad to find improved front & hind movement from the last time I judged
mini smooths. Although the dog classes were not strong in number the quality was
v gd & I was delighted with my final line-up, which was even in size & type. PD
(1). 1 Blackburn's Bardachs Santa Cruz to Stargang. 12 mth old b/t. A v
confident young dog, gd ring presence which showed up in the challenge. Lovely
head, eyes & expression, gd reach of neck running smoothly into correct
backline, gd depth of body & spring of rib, moved with drive from rear. Pleased
to give him RCC. I wish him well. JD (3. 1 Rees' Shardagang Black Kite at
Nordach. B/t. Gd placement of shoulder & excellent front movement. Gd hind
angulation, lovely tight feet, would have preferred a little more reach of neck.
Moved & showed well; 2 Callow's Garthorne Man In Black. B/t, gd head, nice
forechest, gd placement of shoulder. Preferred hind quarters of 1; 3 Plant's
Merehill Newz Encounter. PGD (3). 1 Shutt's Doddadoon Princes Passion. B/t. Nice
quality dog, balanced & v sound, lovely head, gd forechest, moved & showed well,
didn't sparkle in the challenge; 2 Spencer's Chelridge Picolomini. Much to like,
showed well, in lovely condition, was not as firm in hind movement as 1; 3
Barber's Rivergate Gallanthus. LD (4). 1 Punter's Welcumen Whiskey B/t. A nice
quality d, lovely head & eye shape, gd reach of neck running smoothly into
correct back line, excellent forechest & bone structure. His feet could have
been tighter, moved & showed well; 2 Boyle's Zercrest Smooth Addiction. Red. I
liked this dog almost as much as the 1 st. There was little to choose between
them so I had to be extra critical & chose 1 for slightly better shoulder
placement & front movement; 3 Scott's Bevrons General Monck. OD (4). 1 Sharley's
Nordach Oberon at Hyshope. Red. This dog took my eye for his soundness &
balance. He has gd forechest & shoulder placement, gd hind angulation & depth of
body but with clearance. He had that extra sparkle in the challenge so was
pleased to give him CC & BOB; 2 Punter's Clipperdown Basil Welcumen B/t. In
beautiful show condition, a real credit at this end of the show calendar, he is
balanced & basically v sound, just preferred front movement of 1st on the day; 3
Boyle's Ch Radcyffe Immorata at Zarcrest. V (3). 1 Kershaw's Redclyffe Dryope. B
b/t 10 yrs. In lovely condition for a senior lady, a credit to her owner, super
shoulder placement, moved with joy at her day out; 2 Callow's Ch Garthorne
Penelope. B b/t 8 yrs. Younger than 1 st but still a credit to how Dachs can
last in gd show condition long after they are usually taken out of the ring. I
wish more owners would support Vet classes so that the newer exhibitors could
see these beautiful dogs & bitches, which might be in their pedigrees. MPB (3).
1 Reeds' Deercroft Dolly Daydream. B/t 6 1/2 mths. This young lady has promise,
lovely head, gd shape of eye, gd reach of neck, has depth of body, moved &
showed well. Feet need to tighten; 2 Priestley's Fatadon Belle Hillstar. B/t 6
1/2 mths. Sound steady mover, showed well, preferred tail set of 1st. PB (5). 1
Crawley's Donnadoon Elouise at Doujae. B/t 10 mths. V promising p, lovely
shoulders, gd depth of body but with clearance, gd reach of neck with drive &
showed well; 2 Lashbrook's Milfer Little Miss Muffet. 11 mths. Nice overall
balance, moved & showed well, a little too low to ground for my liking; 3
Palin's Merchill Aaf A Sixpence for Sanmik. JB (8). 1 Young's Willowheath Wanda.
B/t. V nice b with beautiful head & reach of neck, lovely fore chest & well set
shoulders, gd depth of body & length of rib but still a compact example. Moved &
showed well; 2 Burke & Manston's Bonavoir Masterpiece. B/t. A v similar b to the
winner but I preferred the tail set of the first placed; 3 Herrington's
Kathington Summer Classic. PGB (9). 1 This was-a v strong class of bitches & a
credit to all exhibitors. 1 Spencer's Chelridge Apple Brown Betty. Clear red.
Beautiful head & reach of neck running into correct backline, lovely shoulder &
hind angulation, has depth of body & gd length of rib, moved & showed well &
kept that extra sparkle to win BCC; 2 Widdop's Jondac Golden Dream. Clear red.
Another lovely b with much style, lovely rear movement, not quite as free in
front, in beautiful show condition; 3 Herrington's Kathington Summer Classic. LB
(9). 1 Winchurch's Donnadoon My Desire for Brianolf. B/t. Lovely head, gentle
expression, gd reach of neck, correct backline & tail set, gd length of rib,
short in loin, moved with drive & showed well; 2 Munt's Pipersvale Stella
Artois. Red. V little between 1st & 2nd. Gd balance & type showed & moved well,
lovely forechest, gd depth of body but on standing was inclined to sink into her
shoulders making her look too low to ground; 3 Callow's Garthorne Highlight. OB
(5). 1 Herrington's Kathington Dubbonett. Clear red. Lovely head & expression,
gd reach of neck & correct backline & tail set. Gd fore & hind angulation with
nice tight feet. Won RCC; 2 Metcalfe's Bronia Saucy Sara at Matadale. Red. A
quality b which showed & moved well. Little to choose between 1st & 2nd but
Dubbonett just had the edge on the day; 3 Lewis' Shardagang Santa Lucia of
Bardachs.
