MINATURE SMOOTH HAIRED
First of all I would like to thank all the exhibitors for such a fantastic entry. It was a pleasure to have so many quality exhibits to go over & there were a number of classes where any of the first three could have swapped places. I was interested to see in the Catalogue how many of my winners were sired by D’Arisca stud d’s, or who had D’Arisca lineage close behind them. It is indeed a statement of the huge positive influence Lovaine Coxon & her D’Arisca kennel have had on this variety. Overall, I was impressed with the quality of the Miniature Smooths. V few were shy on the table & only three bounced the scales. I was looking for hounds that could move & hold a correct outline in profile. I also considered it important that hind movement should be parallel as per the Breed Standard. A number of d’s failed in this respect & I suspect that a bit more exercise to muscle them up would make a big difference. Those with over-crooked fronts did not appeal to me & I preferred the true parallel movement coming towards me.
MPD (6). 1 Richardson’s Dolyharp Madrigal At Belazieth. B/t of just over 6 mnths who held a gd topline at all times. Well developed forechest for his age, running through to a tidy underline. Reasonable bone, gd head shape, neatest movement in this class, others moved wide behind or were over crooked in front; 2 Shelton’s Donnadoon Imagination. 9 mnth b/t of slightly longer type than 1. Gd forechest, firm topline, well angulated behind. Gd overall profile; 3 Punter’s Bilbo Boss For Welcumen.
PD (8). 1 Hunt’s Deercroft Discoverer With Carpaccio. Small b/t d who really stepped out round the ring, easily the best movement in this class. V neat front construction. An elegant & well balanced little d. Not behaving at his best in this class! Preferred his head to 2, BP; 2 Coxon’s D’Arisca Elnside Elitist. Another v well made p who also moved well. Slightly more substance than 1. Well laid back shoulder, gd length of ribbing. Topline held on the move, in profile. Looks better moving than stacked (which is how I prefer to judge them anyway); 3 Dunn’s Barratini Luke Lively At Ashridge.
JD (2). 1 Doran’s Dorandaq Ditchfield. A slightly more compact type than my previous two class winners. V neat front construction & excellent forechest. Would prefer a bit more length of keel. Nice tight feet, moved true going away.
PGD (4). 1 Orton’s Scalamor Solomon’s Seal. Easily the best front construction in this class, with gd, tight fitting elbows & gd length of upper arm. Tidy underline & reasonable topline. Not quite the elegance of my earlier MP & P class winners. Moved true going away from me; 2 Widdop’s Jondac Justin. Gd head & neck. Strong, prominent forechest. This d was more exaggerated in keel than I like & he cuts up more in the underline, making him look less balanced at the rear. Held a firm topline, moved wider behind going away from me than 1 & needs a bit more bend of stifle; 3 McAulay’s D’Arisca Ensor Donne At Elnside.
LD (5). 1 Newbury & Morris’ Morris Man Of Dalegarth. A really well balanced little d with gd substance throughout. Preferred his overall balance to 2. Gd forechest, reasonable length of ribbing. Gd underline, moved true going away & was neater coming towards me than 2; 2 Ergis’ Siouxline Thomas JW ShCM. Taller & finer type than 1, but he has a tendency to rise up over the loin. Gd forechest & shoulder placement. Tidy underline, moved parallel going away. Preferred his front construction to 3; 3 Endersby’s Mowbray Music Man.
OD (7). 1 Barber’s Melriding Meruisti. I really felt there was nothing exaggerated about this d. A gd typical example & I particularly liked his tidy front construction. He has a bit more ground clearance than 2, which I preferred. Gd length of ribbing. Held a gd topline on the move & had the truest movement in both directions of all in this class. Pleased to award him his second CC & RBOB. He was the most free moving of all the d’s in the challenge; 2 Coxon’s Ch D’Arisca Inkel Impresario. Another lovely hound with excellent forechest running down to a deep keel. Nice head & elegant neck, probably has slightly better length than 1 & he is really well angulated behind. He moved slightly wider behind than 1 when moving away from me. RCC; 3 Callow’s Ch Garthorne Man In Black.
SPVD/B (3). 1 Herrington’s Lucky Chance At Kathington. V handsome b/t d who is not showing his age & still impresses. Was certainly in contention for the top awards today. Really gd head, elegant neck. Excellent forechest & front construction. Firm topline at all times & neat, tidy underline; 2 Endersby’s Manakoora Lou-Hie-Hie At Mowbray. Red b who has also aged well. Gd length of upper arm. Neat underline & held her topline on the move. Reasonable hind angulation. Preferred her movement in profile to 3; 3 Luke’s Lyrosh Contessa Lucia.
MPB (10). 1 Coxon’s D’Arisca Golden Delicious. A lovely little red b of just 9 mnths, but looks quite mature. Super front construction with gd forechest & tight fitting elbows. Nothing exaggerated. Gd topline, neat underline, loved watching her profile movement & she was perfectly true both coming & going. BPB; 2 Herrington’s Kathington Ebony Star. Another well made b, slightly less mature than 1 (quite rightly at this age). Gd forechest, but moved slightly narrower in front than 1. Well angulated behind & v true going away. Firm topline & tidy underline; 3 Worswick’s Dolyharp Minuet.
PB (14). 1 Barber’s Simply Red Ruby Of Rivergate. Lengthy, elegant red b, daughter of my DCC winner. Liked her front construction with tight fitting elbows. Gd topline & flowing underline. Moved parallel in both directions; 2 Mead’s Minimead Mad In Manhatten. Slightly lower to ground type with a bit less ground clearance than 1. Excels in forechest & front construction. Tight fitting elbows & length of upper arm. Gd hind angulation & well let down hocks. Presents a lovely picture in profile; 3 Cudlip’s Metadale Honeymoon.
JB (18). 1 Lewis’s Merehill Kinky Boots At Bardachs. Lovely little b/t who looks really well balanced. Gd head on elegant neck, tight fitting elbows. Firm topline at all times, & really neat flowing underline with gd ribbing. Moved absolutely parallel moving away; 2 Reed’s Deercroft Devotion. Another nice type & a close decision for 1st. Elegant neck, tight fitting elbows but slightly more out-turned feet than 1. Gd topline & underline, well angulated behind; 3 Marka-Novaj Shembys At Work.
SBB (5). 1 MacDonald’s Bensarka After Midnight. Preferred the overall length of this b to 2. Gd forechest. Tight fitting elbows. Gd topline, moved true coming & going & looks lovely when moving in profile; 2 Yeoman’s Klynerbyner Prim & Proper. A more compact type than 1. Beautiful dark chocolate colour, well constructed in front, not exaggerated in forechest. Tidy underline, would prefer more hind angulation; 3 Burton’s Chelridge Brown Sugar.
PGB (18). 1 MacDonald’s B A Midnight; 2 Salisbury’s Barratini Moonbeam Over Brocklewood. Red b who moved true coming & going. Gd head & eye. V little to criticise. Gd forechest, tidy underline & firm topline. Wouldn’t want to see her with any more weight, otherwise she will lose her elegance; 3 Hunt’s & Coxon’s D’Arisca Don’t Eat The Daisies.
LB (18). 1 Daykin’s Barratini Magic Moment JW. Litter sister to 2 in PGB & another lovely b. This was a really strong class. Moved absolutely true coming & going. Correct head, gd forechest & well laid back shoulder. Tight fitting elbows. Lovely topline, gd hind angulation; 2 Worswick’s Willowheath Trendie Music To Dolyharp. An elegant b/t who presents a lovely picture in profile. Gd length of neck, not overdone in forechest. Well angulated behind, correct parallel movement, both ways; 3 Mead’s Minimead Maid Specially.
OB (8). 1 Hunt’s Ch Carpaccio Shopaholic JW. This b just has to be seen moving. She leaves all the other standing & her free-flowing, driving movement is a joy to watch. Super front construction. Firm topline & neat underline. Gd length, well angulated behind. Presented in really hard, fit condition. BCC & BOB; 2 Ergis’ Ch Bronia Stunning Sophia For Siouxline JW ShCM. Close decision with 1. This little red b put it all in today. Well constructed in front, with gd length of upper arm, slightly more crooked in front coming towards me than 1. Preferred her overall balance to 3, RCC; 3 Coxon, Jeavons & McMillan UK Am & Can Ch Grandgables Tickle My Fancy (Imp).
