The Miniature Dachshund Club held its Championship Show at the Watford Leisure Centre, Garston, for the last time at this venue due to refurbishing. My “lot” was the 14 classes of Miniature Smooths with an entry of 121 from 115 d’s. My apologies to the exhibitors for being slightly late, having allowed ample time for travel my navigator & I just could not find the Leisure Centre - if you haven’t been before, it certainly is not v well signed. I enjoyed my stint but found the quality & type v mixed, more so in the d’s than the b’s. Delighted to see my BOB go RBIS under Mrs Munt, famous for her Miniature Smooth’s, only beaten by the beautiful b/t Miniature Long, Ch Minard Krystal Darque. V (7). 1 Watkinson’s Ch Manakoora Mai-Tai. Nearly 11 yrs old this red, quite delightful in every way & an easy winner here. Pretty head, expressive eyes, v superior all about her, still a lovely topline, has retained a splendid figure, excellent coat & condition, positive mover & showgirl. Owner must be v proud of her; 2 Callow’s Ch Garthorne Leading Lady. 7 yrs b/t b, fit & well muscled, firm body, showed confidently, moved ok. I preferred head & expression of 1st; 3 Hartley’s Ir Ch Lyrosh Don Perinon JW. UNDER 10 LBS (7). 1 Forster’s Maximites Lovely Lisa At Geffle. 2 yrs b/t b, attractive head & eyes, held her topline on the move, excellent body & coat. Got a little bored standing but moved with plenty of animation, sometimes a fraction too proud of her tail; 2 Melbourne’s Inkel I’m Rupert Of Melriding. Red d of 21/2 yrs, delightful character, could have a little more length of head, standing presented a gd silhouette but lost his topline slightly when moving. Well condition & coated. Should like to see him move with a bit more reach in front; 3 Shutt’s Donnadoon Duke Of Darkness. MPD (7). 1 Doran’s Dorandag Ditchfield. 8 mnths b/t, confident & composed young man who took it all in his stride. Gd topline & quarters, appealing head, intelligent expression, moved well, excellent coat; 2 Coxon’s D’Arisca Elmside Elitist, 6 mnths red, already knows exactly what to do, posed on the table, excellent strong hindquarters, clean & well presented like all from this kennel, firm body, well schooled showman, moved ok. By CC winner, I preferred head of 1st; 3 Blackburn-Bennett’s Merehill Newz Connection To Shardango. PD (3). 1 Mead’s Minimead Maximus. 6 mnths red, front needs to improve but excellent topline & proportions, lovely coat, bright eyes, intelligent expression, moved well behind, in superb condition; 2 Norton’s Halunke Martinesque. 10 mnths b/t with masculine head, gd front, coat & condition, calm steady showman. Lost his topline on the move. JD (4). Not a gd class. 1 Long’s Tydurcwrt First Of The Gang. Yearling b/t with gd head & eyes, not quite sure of himself as yet but he got better as the class went on. Needs to improve in hind movement. Gd outline, coat & condition, sympathetically handled; 2 Orton’s Scatamor Solomons Seal. 16 mnths b/t, gd outline, well proportioned, went away ok but failed in front action, supple coat. Tail carriage on the gay side; 3 Shelton’s Barisse Gentlemans Relish. PGD (7). 1 Ergis’s Siouxline Thomas. 15 mnths b/t, gd size & type, won this class comfortably. I thought quality head, bright eye & “with it”. Clean outline, moved & showed well, handler got the most out of her charge, well conditioned; 2 Hully’s Maximites Montgormery b/t, litter brother to 1st in Under 10 lbs, failed in front movement & hated having to stand still! Quite animated on the move, gd body & ribcage, pleasing head; 3 Gaskin’s Glorron Petulengro At Dovestream. LD (6). 1 Endersby’s Mowbray Music Man. 21/2 yrs red, not gd in front movement, but kept his topline standing & moving, masculine head, gd bone, sensible showman; 2 Watkinson’s Manakoora Hanapepe Valley, 21/2 yrs b/t, not quite relaxed, spreading his feet on this surface, gd body & coat, sympathetically handled but not just enjoying himself; 3 Jones’s Radclyffe Minus. OD (8). Gd class. 1 CC, Coxon’s D’Arisa Way Down Low. 18 mnths red, had to work hard to win this class, he is certainly long, low & level, gd length of head, prominent breast bone, gd keel & topline, beautiful coat & condition, arrogant showman who moved with plenty of freedom. His 3rd CC, I gather, making yet another D’Arisca champion; 2 RCC, Barber’s Melriding Meruisti. 2 yrs, b/t, quality youngster in gd form. Gorgeous dark eyes, giving him a lovely expression, well presented, coat like satin, v gd outline, moved soundly. At times a bit stubborn & not wanting to make the most of himself standing but really got his act together when moving, holding his topline; 3 Callow’s Ch Garthorne Man In Black, completing a quality trio. MPB (13). Full house & a charming lot. 1 Lewis’s Merehill Kinky Boots at Bardachs. 7 mnths b/t with gd head, eyes & expression, clean neck & shoulders, firm body & topline, composed showgirl. Promising as was 2; 2 Mendes’s Scharmein Nina. 7 mnths red, sweet head, feminine expression, excellent coat & condition, well proportioned, well handled, steady showgirl went well; 3 Mead’s Minimead Maid In Manhattan. PB (7). 1 BP, Stephen’s Bedu Some Like It Hot. Nearly 11 mnths red, feminine b, v self assured, defiant head carriage, full of her own importance, excellent topline & silhouette, well conditioned, did not put a foot wrong, moved with style; 2 Gaskin’s Dovestream Limited Edition. 10 mnths b/t, attractive head shapely body, glossy supple coat, well presented, moved well behind, needs to tighten up in front; 3 Spencer’s Curtisey Classic Design For Bannonbrig. JB (16). 1 Daykin’s Barratini Magic Moment. 17 mnths red, excellent quality & type, v gd head & expression, smart & stylish, excellent coat & condition, gd length of body & overall proportions, moved & showed well, using her hindquarters to best advantage; 2 Lashbrook’s Little Miss Molly Of Milfer. 141/2 mnths, another quality red, feminine head & expression, gd length & depth of body, moved with animation, happy personality; 3 Bethel’s Hampdach Angelic. PGB (14). 1 Shuker’s Yewlitt Sadie. 21/2 yrs red, gd reach & drive on the move, prominent breast bone, gd keel, level topline, well muscled quarters, showed herself to advantage, in gd form, typical head & expression; 2 Young’s Willow Heath Wendy. 21/2 yrs red, feminine head & outlook, excellent body & coat, well ribbed up, steady showgirl; 3 Melbourne’s Melriding Confederate Bobi. LB (12). 1 Mitchell’s Bronia Lucidissima. 22 mnths b/t, quality head, intelligent expression, gd bone, legs & feet, long & low, sound mover, well muscled & conditioned, gd coat. Just lacking a little in enthusiasm, expertly handled; 2 Mayger’s Woolsocks Black Satin. 2 yrs b/t. Gd honest b that I liked for type, a bit restless today & gave her handler a hard time when standing, attractive head, firm body, topline & quarters, glossy coat, v fit; 3 Crawley’s Donnadoon Elouise At Doujac. OB (10). 1 CC, BOB & RBIS, Hunt’s Ch Carpaccio Shopaholic JW. Won a strong class, 31/2 yrs b/t who responded so well to her handler. Well balanced & sound, feminine in head & outlook, beautifully proportioned, well ribbed up, perfect topline, well muscled quarters, switched on showgirl, full of expression & composure, v gd ring presence; 2 RCC, Blackburn-Bennett’s Shardagang Pavlova. All quality red of excellent shape, in gd form, determined & positive on the move, most attractive head of gd length, dark bright eyes, well bodies, firm topline & quarters, well presented & handled; 3 Ergis’s Ch Bronia Stunning Sophia For Siouxline JW. 3 yrs red, well conditioned & looking v fit after nursing a litter of 4, showy & co-operative, pleasing head & overall proportions, glossy coat, eager to please & lovely trio.
