MINIATURE SMOOTH HAIRED I was looking for a smooth dachshund in miniature, with balance, no exaggerations and correct movement. The bitches were of better quality than the dogs. Concerns include: poor hindquarters, forward placed shoulders, poor toplines, short upper arms and I found three overshot mouths. Movement was not good generally and decisions may have changed if judged outside. A few had flat and splayed feet, could be due to lack of roadwork. Interestingly, in this entry, the reds appeared to be of better construction and overall type. There were some tough decisions and I judged according to my interpretation of the breed standard - not forgetting Sayers. My decisions were based on how the dogs appeared and performed on the day. I had five overweight exhibits, which also influenced the results. PD (8,3) 1 BP & Best Dog. Coxon's D'Arisca Grand Prix. Brindle. Well constructed throughout with very good shoulders and nicely rounded hindquarters. Good turn of stifle. He moved out very well with a positive action and was handled to perfection. 2 Blackburn-Bennetts Shelsall Kiss me Quick at Shardagang. Another promising pup of good construction, but not handled to advantage. 3 Sim's Little Wizard of Kelmbeck. J (3) 1 & RBD Shutt's Black Passion at Donnadoon. Well balanced head. Prominent breastbone and fair shoulder placement. Would prefer a little more flesh on him. Good length of ribbing, fair hind angulation. Nice dog who moved the best in the class. 2 Irving's Pattons Just in Time. Good head and expression, nicely angulated shoulders and good length of ribbing. 3 Cunliffe's Pattons Music Maker. PG (1) 1 Medley's Classic Mix. Fair shoulder angulation and upper arm, would prefer a more prominent breastbone. Well ribbed. Very well presented and handled. PB (7,3) Nice class. 1 Coxon's D'Arisca Striped Tease. Brindle litter sister to the best puppy. Good construction and slightly taller than her brother. Well balanced head with excellent length of neck, good ribbing, very good hindquarters, moved the best in the class. 2 Blackburn-Bennett's Shelsall Magic Kisses at Shardagang. Good type b/t. Beautiful shoulders and low to ground. Was a little overawed on the day at just 6 months old but a very promising puppy with good temperament. 3 Rowell's Emmajesk Amelia. J (5) Lovely class. 1 Blackburn-Bennett's Shardagang Illusion Best Bitch & BOB. Lovely red with good head and expression. Beautifully put together, a dachshund in miniature. Long, sloping shoulders with good length of upper arm, which gave her good reach in front on the move. Prominent breastbone. Well ribbed up and short, strong loin. Very good hindquarters, which propelled her around the ring. Well balanced outline with no exaggerations, liked her a lot. Should have a promising future. Expertly handled. 2 Callow's Garthorne Lady Louisa. Would prefer slightly more weight on her. Good lay of shoulder with prominent breastbone and well ribbed up. Slightly lower to ground than the winner and not so positive on the move. 3 Robinson's D'Arisca Indulge The Dream at Inkel. PG (7,1) Very mixed class for type and quality. 1 Herrington's Kathington Ebony Star. Nice quality B/T with good head and expression. Prominent breastbone. Good lay of shoulder, well ribbed with short strong loin and good hind angulation. Moved out the best in the class. Very well handled. 2 Spencer's Scalamor Sugar Stealer for Bannonbrig. Good overall make and shape, slightly lower to ground than the winner. Was a little sluggish on the move but a nice bitch. 3 Salisbury's Brocklewood Babycham. L (5,1) 1 Callow's Garthorne Gazania. Really nice shaded red bitch with a well balanced head. Good shoulders and upper arm. Prominent forechest and good ribbing. Best hindquarters in class with lovely turn of stifle Would prefer a little more bone but lovely type overall. 2 Carter's Royal Expression of Boglands. Good head and expression. Very typy and nicely balanced, liked her a lot. Just preferred shoulder placement of winner. At seven years she was giving away a lot in age but a very nice representative of the breed. 3 Lombardelli's D'Arisca Lorna Doone at Kelmbeck. O (2) Two nice bitches. 1ST & RBB Coxon's Ch D'Arisca Golden Delicious. Feminine, well balanced head and good expression. Prominent breastbone and excellent shoulders. Good length of ribbing, short strong loin and good turn of stifle. Really moved out well around the ring. Expertly handled. In the challenge for best bitch I preferred the junior winners movement. 2 Herrington's Kathington Chantelle. Compact bitch of good type, really nice quality and shape, just preferred the shoulders of the winner. Debbie Brettell
