MINIATURE SMOOTH HAIRED

Thanks to the SDA for a happy, well run show, to my most efficient steward Elizabeth Harrap and the exhibitors who accepted my findings with good showmanship. My impressions are mostly positive, insofar as all teeth were clean, all mouths were correct and all exhibits were clean and joy of joys all temperaments are first class. Thank you. I found that there were quite a few small heads and ears, I personally prefer a houndy head and expression. Movement has improved, but still needs watching, as some hind movement in particular is erratic and in some cases, unsound. My winners gave me great pleasure. MPD. (6). 1. Shunker’s, Yewlitt Zerox. Red baby of 6 months. Very nice outline. Very much the soundest mover on the day in this class. Prominent prosternum, good topline held throughout. Correct shoulder placement. Lovely sweeping underline. Hind end in true and he showed his little self off beautifully. 2. Melbourne’s, Melriding de Lafayette. He has an attractive outline when standing, but at 6 months has not yet settled into his movement. With time very much on his side, he is balanced and promising. 3. Shutt’s, Black Passion. PD. (3). 1. Ergis’s, Siouxline Isaac. He is a most promising youngster with a balanced correct structure. Lovely prosternum leading into a well set shoulder. Level topline and a good sweep of underline. Hindquarters need to settle. I will watch him with interest. Correct tail set and nice condition. Moved quite well. 2. Bursey’s, Hartlake Special Brew. Another b/t. Not quite the front of the winner and he needs to settle in movement. Having said that he is a very nice young dog. JD. (3). 1. Mead’s, Minimead Maximus. By far the best mover in the class. A red masculine sound dog. Constructed well. He has a well muscled body in great condition. The angulation at both ends is correct and he held his outline when motoring, which he has down to a fine art. RCC 2. Hunt’s, Deercroft Discoverer with Carpaccio. B/t. He is a small balanced dog. Nice under and toplines. Movement not quite as good a Maxiums. Very sweet dog. 3. Melbournes’, Melriding Jerome. ND. (2). 1. Ergis’s, Siouxline Indigo. BPD. B/t. Very balanced. I liked him a lot. Lovely head and expression, correct shoulders. Fills the crook nicely. Good feet. He will do well when he matures, as he has that sort of charisma I love to see. Moved well. 2. Bursey’s, Hartlake Special Brew. LD. (1). 1. Ergis’s, Siouxline Thomas JW Sh CM. CC. Standing alone in this class, but he looked a picture of masculine strength and balance. This exhibitor has some lovely dogs, and I took pleasure in looking at them. Thomas is a great mover, and that is probably because he is put together s well with a pleasing head, arched neck, excellent shoulder placement, good spring of rib which are carried well back to powerful hindend with good angles there as well. OF. (2). 1. Coxon’s, Ch. D’Arisca Inkel Impressario. This is a lovely b/t dog with great angulation front and back. Level topline, good legs and feet. To be hypercritical about this dog, and it is very difficult to be so, I find him too low to the ground with very little clearance underneath. Lovely condition. 2. Herrington’s, Kathington Chance Encounter. A very different type here. Prosternum is good. Nice shoulders, firm topline I personally would like more hind angulation. Very nice exhibit. MPB. (7). 1. Callow’s, Garthorne Gazania. Red. A very balanced well angulated baby. Good feet. Best of heads. Correct front and good movement for one so young. 2. Coxon’s, D’Arisca from Dawn Till Duck. B/t really fabulous from neck back, but I found the head a little small for me. PB. (5). 1. Salisbury’s, Brocklewood Babycham. BPIB. Exceptionally nice red. Beautifully angled quarters which she uses with abandon going like a train. Her body is well covered, muscular and topline and underline are correct. One of the best heads here on the day. Most promising. 2. Young’s, Willowheath Gwendolen. Nicely made bitch puppy. B/t. She has all the essentials. Well made body. Good angles, fair prosternum, went well. I would have preferred a better head. JB. (8). 1. Coxon’s, D’Arisca Golden Delicious. Well who would have thought it CC and BOB from Junior. But oh, when I saw her move it was delightful with full flexibility and extension of the quarters. She has the correct head and expression, well set ears. Lovely neck flowing into a correctly angulated shoulder which in turn produced the prosternum I like to see. A well covered body leading to her engine which purred all the way around the ring, producing a sound well balanced young bitch. I predict a force to contend with in the near future. I was pleased to award her top honours and so was her owner. 2. Reeds’, Deercroft Devotion. Another very nice bitch. Actually rather similar in type to winner with the exception of, I would like a little more turn of stifle. Very nice bitch. 3. Barber’s, Simply Red Ruby of Rivergate. NB. (3). 1. Reed’s, Miss Dynamite. A b/t. Standing she looks a picture with lovely angles at the shoulder and hindquarters. Excellent feet. Level topline. Sweet and balanced. I found her movement rather wide on the day, and she is a bit proud of her tail. Maybe a season? 2. Sharkeys’, Hyshope Black Crystal. Rather a petite balanced bitch, that has sound movement. Fabulous feet so easy to see in the Smooths. Lovely temperament. PGB. (10). 1. Voaden’s, Berrycourt Lantana. A top quality red. She is rounded, level with good prosternum. Excellent feet. Front angulation is correct, and her hind end is sound. She is balanced and moved well. 2. Lewis’s, Merehill Kinky Boots at Bardachs. Close up to winner as this was a good class. I have on my tape ‘exceptional feet’. She is not as low to ground as the first, but is not ‘leggy’ Correct shoulder set, good back end and moved well. 3. Salisbury’s, Barratini Moonbeam over Brocklewood. LB. (7). 1. Reed’s, Dercroft Midnite Magnolia. I like the balance of this bitch very much. B/t. This class was comprised of very different types and Magnolia pleased me best. Although there were good points in the others, I liked her balance and her correct construction. Moved well, great condition and well presented. 2. Lashbrook’s, Little Miss Molly of Milfer. Red, slightly cobbier, nevertheless sound and true. Lovely condition well muscled and rather sweet. 3. Worswick’s, Willowheath Trendie Music to Dollthrap. OB. (5). 1. Ergis’s, Ch. Bronia Stunning Sophie for Siouxline JW Sh CM. RCC. Goes like the wind, indeed mum was catching up all the time. Delightful character. Lovely head and fabulous front assembly. Good feet, a close decision for her and the CC winner. The balance went to Golden Delicious on use of hindquarters and extension in that department. Close thigh though. 2. Hunt’s, Can/Am Ch. Grandgables Ms Supernatural at Carpaccio. Very elegant b/t with loads to like about her. Well placed shoulder and front, hind end is correct. I should like a bit more body substance as she lacked the depth I (and I stress I) like. Could change places any day. 3. Mead’s, Minimead Mid Specially.
