Judge : Jeff Horswell

MINIATURE SMOOTH HAIRED

I thought this variety has improved since I last judged & must now rate as the strongest of the 6, quality was high with real depth in the bitches, I was delighted with both my line-ups. Rears continue to improve, the last time I judged fronts were a concern, but there were many more that came towards me correctly this time, weight was no problem on any but I thought a number to be in rather soft condition, no bad mouths, a few that were a bit borderline & a few with dirty teeth, biggest fault was too much loose skin generally & wrinkle especially.

MPD (0). PD (4) 1 Callow’s Garthorne Top Gear, super outline & just right for proportions, masculine head, long neck, well laid shoulders & a good upperarm, ribs OK. A tad long in loin. Firm topline, correct rear, true out & back, bound to reach top. CC, BP; 2 Doran’s Dorandaq Ikando, very good rear which he uses well, lengthy neck, dark eyes, long neck, prominent chest. Not balance of front of 1. Correct for length; 3 Shuker’s Yewlitt Zavier. JD (8,3a) Quite a good class. 1 Ergis’ Siouxline Maverick, smart mover, scores in head over 2, houndy & masculine dog of good proportions, long neck into topline, well ribbed, true in front. Goes a bit wide behind. Firm topline; 2 Mitchell’s Bronia Lanfranco, super front angulation & prominent forechest, better hind angulation than 3 but oddly doesn’t use them so well, good neck, topline OK; 3 Sim’s Little Wizard of Kelmbeck. PGD (7,1) 1 Little’s Wizard of Kelmbeck, good shape & balance, holds same outline when he moves, very good head, level topline, styrong rear; 2 Hartley’s Minimead Malachi of Lyrosh, much better moving than standing, firm topline, true with free stride. Could have a better head & loses forechest on move. Good ribs; 3 MacDonald’s Bensarka The Midas Touch. LD (3) 1 Callow’s Garthorne Garcia, masculine dog of very good proportions & balance, truest out & back here, good head, well laid shoulders. Feet could be better. Well ribbed, strong rear; 2 Melbourne’s Melriding Jerome, good proportions but has a bit too much wrinkle. Head OK, holds a level topline, well bent stifle & low hocks. Not forechest or shoulders of 1 but a sound honest dog; 3 Orton’s Scalamor Solomons Seal. OD (6) 1 Shelton’s Ch Donnadoon Imagination of Barisse, doesn’t have instant appeal but is very good on table, most super head & eye, strong neck, fair front, very good feet, comes at you so well, well sprung ribs, very good rear, could drive a bit more but sound & honest dog. RCC; 2 Ergis’ Siouxline Indigo, much more eyecatching dog who holds a firm topline, fair head & eye, long neck, ideal proportions, well ribbed, angles are balanced. Not as tidy on move as 1; 3 Herrington’s Kathington Chance N Counter.

MPB (6) 1 Doran’s Dorandaq Java, good typical Dachs, could have a better head, good neck, best of legs & feet, holds level topline, well ribbed, very good rear; 2 Kerry’s Sanmik One And Sixpence at Kireton, showgirl with lots of promise. Still very loose. Nice head, good neck, like her front. Needs to firm in topline. Well made rear; 3 Livingston’s Sweet Indulgence at Nordham. PB (6) Very encouraging class. 1 Hunt’s Carpaccio Royal Parade, super outline & holds it on move, feminine head, long neck, well made front, firm topline, tailset a bit high, very good rear, am sure will win lots. BPB; 2 Spencer’s Bannonbrig Not On Your Nelly, very nice type of bitch, ideal proportions, not quite as low as 3, which earnt this place, very good head. Expression could be better. Well made & grand body; 3 Mead’s Minimead Miz Lucy Lou. JB (12,4) 1 Lewis’ Shardagang San Tula at Bardachs, super outline, good head which is feminine & strong, long neck, very good forechest, good ribs. Topline could firm a touch still. Excellent rear, dead true; 2 King’s Kingsdax Lia Lucky Ebony, very nice sort of bitch, just cuts up in underline a little. Feminine head. Bit too much loose skin. Firm topline, well laid shoulder, lengthy stride; 3 Rowell’s Emmajesk Amelia. PGB (16,4) Very good class. 1 Pritchard’s Hannamouse Bronte, what a super bitch, gorgeous head, long neck, good front, super outline retained on move, firm topline, well made rear, low hocks, grand bitch with a correct underline. CC & BOB; 2 Barber’s Pattons Little Eva by Rivergate, super outline & very good head. Not quite forechest or stride of 1, long neck, firm topline, grand ribs, super rear, true mover. Just needs to muscle & harden; 3 Williams & Rose’s Tythe Tempest. LB (11,4) 1 Shelton’s Barisse High Frequency, balanced bitch with a super head, ideal proportions, long neck, very good front, super ribbing. Would like a fraction more drive behind although she is dead true. Holds a firm topline. RCC; 2 Lewis’ Merehill Kinky Boots of Bardachs, very nice type of bitch. Just tucks rear under on move somewhat. Pleasing head, long neck, firm topline, good chest; 3 Hartley’s Lyrosh Ebony Lady. OB (3) 1 Coxon’s Ch D’Arisca Golden Delicious, absolutely true on the move, typical outline, feminine head with dark eyes, long neck, good front, ribs go back well, quite a good rear. Just a bit soft; 2 Callow’s Garthorne Leome, in good muscle, could carry a bit less body to advantage. Feminine head, OK for neck, firm topline; 3 Lombardelli’s D’Arisca From Dawn Till Dusk at Kelmbeck.
