MINIATURE SMOOTH HAIRED
My thanks for such a wonderful entry. I found the quality was very mixed and whilst there were some top quality exhibits I found too many with eyes like Rolls Royce headlamps which completely ruin the expression. Two other aspects which struck me were the number which cut up in rib immediately behind the elbow into an S shape, often accompanied by being short in ribcage length and having a much too long loin. No weight problems excepting for one & I think two with level rather than scissor bites and that was the negatives!! Temperaments were excellent as was the coat condition of virtually every exhibit.
SPD (14/7) Disappointing to have such a large absentee rate
but possibly not helped by the major road accident on the motorway approaches to
the NEC.1 Hutchison’s Moongara Midnight Diamond b/t with a lovely head length,
barely discernable stop, really good eye shape and colour, perfect mouth with
good sized teeth and used her ears well. Well developed forechest, level
backline and well muscled hindquarters. Profile action shows balance. 2
Paterson’s Dapplecino Katen dapple built on harmonious lines, excellent
shoulders and upper arm, decent sternum, lovely underline and ribs carry well
back to a fairly short loin. Has enough bend of stifle and covers the ground
well as she moves around the ring. Head could be a fraction longer and I would
wish for a less full eye. 3 Hartley’s Rajashree Don Juan at Lyrosh.
PD (10) 1 Salisbury’s Barratini Aston Martin b/t with a top of the
range name to live up to. Shows promise. Delightful in head, eyes and
expression, long neck, good fore assembly and lovely tight feet. He was well
muscled aft, is clean in shoulder and again his side action showed balance. 2
Mead’s Minimead Minisota red, a shade full in eye for me but no doubting his
lovely shape and degree of style. He has a beautiful neck, his back is level,
the croup well rounded and muscular and he has a good bend of stifle. Not so
forward in body as the winner but he could finish well. 3 Bursey’s Hartlake
Rodley Blackjack
JD (6/2) 1 Callow’s Garthorne Top Gear this kennel usually produces
dogs which I like and this one is no exception. B/t with a good head with a
strong foreface, good lipline and excellent ears. He has a lovely spring of rib,
they carry well back and his underline is smooth. Very good balanced side
action, just needs to firm up a little in front. 2 R. Don Juan at L. this red is
not nearly so forward and art present he is a bit leggy and needing to drop into
himself. I liked his head, clean, strong jaws, excellent mouth and he does score
in eye and expression. His ribcage has enough spring behind the withers but at
present he cuts up a bit sharply compared to Top Gear. Once settle in action he
keeps his shape well.3 Shutt’s Just Dreaming at Donnadoon
PGD (14/4) A class of very mixed quality 1 Miller’s Tydurcwrt All’s
Quiet this red had to win this on his overall appeal. Devoid of exaggeration his
reach of neck, firm backline and smooth profile action ensured the red card. He
has a nice head of some length and excellent ears. 2 Mortlock’s Siouxline Magnus
at Hertsmerry b/t which could look better with improved handling. I felt he was
fussed to much and as a result he would stand arching his spine in stance yet
once on the move it flattened out and his appearance was vastly improved. Very
good head shape, nice eyes, high set ears and in good coat. 3 Hartley’s Minimead
Malachi at Lyrosh
LD (8/3) 1 & CC Ashwell’s Siouxline Isaac JW ShCM I see I gave his
father the CC the last time I judged. Not a big fellow but all male, with bags
of swank and style on the go around showing forward reach and powerful drive
from his hocks. He is so well put together in construction, just enough neck and
a firm backline with a smooth, clean underline. His head is well balanced the
eyes a delight as they are so correct in shape, colour and size. Sound both ways
and I felt a worthy winner of the CC, his second I believe. 2 & Res CC
Melbourne’s Melriding Jerome I liked this handsome red dog a lot but just wish
he would lose that slightly worried look he gives now and again. Lovely for
size, substance and weight of bone, tight feet and his bodyshape in stance is
flowing smoothly from his ears to his hocks. He has a lovely front assembly,
good sternum and he was in sparkling coat. Like the winner he can use himself on
the move and if he were only a little more outgoing, I’m sure his title would
soon be achieved. 3 MacDonald’s Bensarka The Midas Touch
OD (3/1) 1 Melbourne’s Melriding de Lafayette I felt he had the best
head balance, beautiful eyes with high set ears which he used non stop. Long
well carried neck, level backline and very good hind angulation. A shade
overdone in length of loin for me which told against him in the challenge. 2
Callow’s Ch Garthorne Garcia not the excellent bend of stifle of the winner,
pleasing head, eye a little full for me, excels in forechest, layback in
shoulder, well boned legs and tight feet. His backline is level, he is well
muscled but could mjust drive a little more with hocks to complete the picture.
MPB (14/2) 1 MacDonald’s Bensarka Sunrise red baby of much promise.
Lovely outline, delightful headpiece with the brightest of expressions, super
reach of neck and very good angles both ends. Gives flashes of really good
action and once settled should do well. 2 Holland’s Jealroie Black Candle at
Zarosa this b/t is just 6 months but is a capricious charmer. Well ribbed,
excellent neck and backline, well weighted bone and quite smooth in action.
Pleasing head, good ears and lovely mouth. 3 Oxley’s Portalutr Ice Spy for
Dinkidax
PB (8/1) 1 & BP Seaton’s Sunsong Sea Mist this b/t deserved her win
here as she never put q foot wrong,. The truest front action of the puppies and
in profile she is so purposeful and smooth striding with that eager, thrusting
action. Lovely for size, good head for length and ear placement, lovely eyes and
tried her heart out. Spanking condition. 2 Bursey’s Hartlake Sweet Dawson at
first I thought she could be the winner as she is impressive when stacked.
Smooth flowing outline, lovely long neck, firm backline and a really broad back
end. I liked her head, the eyes and expression are good and she is well ribbed.
At present needs to tighten in pastern as she is not quite as true as the winner
when fore viewed. 3 Melbourne’s Melriding Creole Lady
JB (11/2) 1 & Res. CC Hunt’s Carpaccio Royal Parade JW I see is a
daughter of Shopaholic, my BOB last time. I think this one will be even better.
She is a most beautiful shape, strongly made with excellent ribcage, fairly
compact loin, strong hindquarters which she uses so well as she circles the
ring. Like her dam, her head is a lovely shape but for me Parade has the better
eye shape. With a few more months of maturity she will unquestionably go on to
her crown. 2 Melbourne & Holdsworth’s Barranti Hubble Bubble at Melriding
another very promising youngster and unlucky to come up against Parade in such
form. My notes say “another excellent example of the breed. “. Parade just
showed that bit more flexibility in hock use as they went around the ring
together, but they could and will change places. 3 Robinson’s D’Arsica Barratini
Boquet
PGB (18/4) 1 Russell’s Russteck Peatbog Fairy sound moving b/t,
delightful head eyes and expression, super reach of neck which enhances her
outline, very good bend of stifle and acquitted herself so well on the move. 2
Williams & Rose’s Tythe Tempest I liked the overall quality of this red bitch.
She has an air of quality, delightful headpiece, excellent sternum, enough
layback in shoulder, well ribbed and muscled and in gleaming coat. Just a bit
careless in front when fore viewed and her handler must learn to watch this. 3
Burton’s Swingletrees Heaven Leigh
LB (11/5) 1 Callow’s Garthorne Lady Louisa nice quality shaded red, so
balanced in shape, enough neck, well ribbed, tail a bit high set, well coated
and was the smoothest striding in side action. 2 Hartley’s Lyrosh Ebony Lady JW
ShCM this b/t just cuts up too quickly in underline for me which is a pity as
she does have a very good head, her eyes are dark and intelligent in expression
and she uses her neck to best advantage. I felt she was a little lethargic on
the move. 3 Paterson’s Yasmin Firebabe
OB (10/1) 1 CC & BOB Coxon’s Ch., Am. & Can Ch. Grandgables Tickle My
Fancy mature brindle bitch with a beautiful headpiece, a neck like a swan the
firmest of backlines above a really good ribcage and a quite superb front
assembly. Her hindquarters are powerful and well muscled and although her
underline could perhaps be tighter, she still moves out with a freedom and
soundness which confirms her good construction. I see she is in her 6th year but
well deserves her many successes though there are several young pretenders now
in the wings. 2 Blackburn-bennett’s Shardagang Illusion proved a disappointment
as at first glance she was my winner. She oozes sheer class in stance, so
shapely and elegant, the cleanest of outlines, wonderful construction and one of
the best heads of the day. The loudspeakers or something upset her and on the
move she never really settled and was over reaching and looking somewhat anxious
which threw the advantage to Fancy. A pity as she has a rare look of class.
