MINIATURE SMOOTH-HAIRED

I really enjoyed my day at this lovely show. My efficient stewards made the day run smoothly, for which I thank them. Your breed is in a good state and I would gladly have given several CCs, which is as it should be. However, short keels and straight shoulders are there, and care must be taken when breeding if your interest is the show ring. I penalised heavily short keels, as for me, this is the worst fault, as it mostly goes with short ribbing. Keels which end between the front legs and ribs that flare out from this leave the body unprotected. The whole point of a Dachshund is the sweep of prosternum down through the keel and long ribbing giving the body the protection it requires. Whatever the RSPCA says, our breed is a hunting breed and requires the correct construction to do this and like many now and before us, I have spent nigh on 40 years keeping this active, bold little dog as true to type as possible. I hope others feel the same.

PD (6, 2) 1 Williams’ Cwmdarhian Billy The Kid. Nicely balanced red and an excellent mover. 2 Salisbury’s Willowheath Just William At Brocklewood. A beautiful elegant puppy but pushing the weight even at this tender age. 3 Cagebrook Thyme To Go To Scalamor.

JD (5, 2) 1 Meads’ Minimead Mysta O’Riley. Elegant, excellent type b/t, good male head, nice neck and good ribbing, moving truly but a little lethargically with the heat. BP. 2 Willowheath Just William At Brocklewood. 3 Cwmdhian Benjamin Button.

PGD (2) 1 Burton’s Swingletrees Ready Teddy Go. Elegant red in lovely condition, a classic male head, flowing down a nice neck to well placed shoulders, a good keel and ribbing and moving out well. He really filled my eye. CC. 2 Goffin’s Bewitched Puffin, a smaller type of dog who was very tense in the muscles down his back. I hope this is now better.

LD (6, 2) 1 Shelton’s Barisse High Endeavour. A correctly made beautiful mature male, a close decision. RCC. 2 Bourne’s Yoapeet Uriel. Won this place on his keel and ribbing which went on for ever. I would like a little more neck, but he could lose a bit of weight over his shoulders which would help this. 3 Youngline Dream Keeper.

OD (3, 1) 1 Mortlock’s Siouxline Magnus At Hertsmerry. This was a difficult class and both are good specimens, but I felt the winner has the better slope of shoulders, his teeth really needed attention, which is a shame, as he is a good dog. 2 Ergis’ Siouxline Maverick. A well turned out dog of good construction and excellent movement. 

PB (13, 5) 1 Lee’s Sylvenlea Sunshine. An elegant feminine puppy, correctly made and with excellent movement. 2 Punter’s Jentiki Dark Pepsi Kola Welcumen. A lovely dark red baby of the smaller, lower type, exemplary front, keel and ribbing. Needs to lose a little weight. 3 Toniajavoe Indian Summer At Carpaccio.

JB (7, 1) 1 Ergis’ Siouxline April Folly JW. This red bitch has everything I love, beauty, type, elegance and oozes quality. Correct construction with easy fluid movement. CC. BOB. So pleased to see her placed Group 3. 2 Williams’ Cwmdarhian Miss Lucy Lou. A good correctly made bitch who moves out really well. 3 Penrhiwgoch Elsa.

PGB (12, 5) A very good class right down the line. 1 Hughes’ Minimead Made To Love For Julidachs. 2 Salisbury’s Barranti Analisa At Brocklewood. These two were correctly made and feminine, so elegant and full of quality and breed type, I liked them very much. 3 Penrhiwgoch Elsa. 

LB (6) 1 Coxon’s Rose Darque At D’Arisca. Correctly made and excellent type, full of vitality and all I admire in an active hound. RCC. 2 Shutt’s Metadale Fabulous Florence For Donadoon. A lovely elegant quality bitch of excellent construction, moves out well but not the joie de vivre of the winner. 3 Woolsocks Black Satin.

OB (3, 1) 1 Coxon’s D’Arisca Golden Delicious. A mature beautiful champion who moves superbly. 2 Pritchard’s Hannamouse Bronte. A lovely elegant b/t of good type.
