Crufts 2013
Miniature Smooth Haired Dachshunds
My apologies for such a late critique. Thank you for a wonderful entry, such a pleasure to find so much quality right down the line in both dogs and bitches. Heads are so much improved, finer in skull and gone are the "snipey" muzzles. We are seeing the correct "conical" head. Eye shape and colour are much improved. We have bone and substance, good shoulder layback. Spring of rib and ribbed well back giving a good underline.
Gone almost is the very short rib which gives the underline of a whippet, wrong and ugly. Hind angulation, much improved with short hock giving drive from behind. Front movement improved with more outreach and length of stride. My congratulations to "Thre Breeders". My Thanks to my stewards Mr D Howell & Mr Paul Hayes who kept everything in good order enabling me to get through the large entry in good time.
Veteran Dog (3)
1st Shelton, Ch Donnadoon Imagination at Barisse JW ShCM
This B/T dog did not look his age. He is so well constructed throughout. Lovely head and expression. Outline firm and held on the move, he drove from the rear, super condition. Coat tight and gleaming. Could compete with the best
2nd Melbourne, Melriding Jerome
Red Dog who was in good condtion, head and eye good, correct in body properties. Sound with good movement. Angulation good, coat tight and dense in good condition. Outline held but the movement of the winner - with zest, he could not match.
3rd Lukes, Corrieknowe Circassian
This 12 year old carried his age well, another good specimen who had a lot to like, muzzle just turning grey and his topline was a little slack. He moved out and back with verve.
Special Puppy Dog (6)
1st McAuley, Elnside Two Tone Boy
So much to like about this brindle boy. Head conical, eye good shape and dark. He was very pleasing to go over. Shoulders correct with good layback, robust rib cage, prominent front, good hind angulation, short hocks giving drive behind. Tail set good, underline and topline good, held on the move. He moved with confidence and drive giving a good outline at all times.
2nd Ergis, Siouxline Levi
Another first class specimen, so correct in construction in all departments. Many of above remarks apply. All dogs from this kennel are of "a type" and all excel in movement so much drive and stride, close decision.
3rd Careys, Swingletrees Abracadabra
To go over him is to find a well constructed dog, both fore and aft outline good, kept on the move, A little rangy he needs to fill in. Movement not as positive as above.
Special Junior Dog (8)
1st Mead, Ardenrun Aeron into Minimead - Reserve CC
This red boy took my eye as he came into the ring. Super classy outline. He is long, Low and Level, but has good ground clearance on the move. my notes sat excellent to go over him is to find a dog with excellent front assembly, layback of shoulder and well sprung rib cage. He is ribbed well back, prominent forechest, well rounded quarters, tail set good, short hocks. He has bone and substance, tight feet. played his handler up a little then settled down, he moved true out and back with drive.
2nd Scott, Wolferlow Captain Bellamy
Quality, has all the body properties to give a balanced overall picture of a well constructed dog. Front assembly pleased as did his well angulated quarters, which he used to drive from the rear. Well let down behind, he moved freely and well. Head and eye also pleased.
3rd Muggleton, Solar Flare at Mosiarto
A lot to like. His general make and shape pleased me. He pleased in head, eye, neck into a shoulder layback. Front and rear assembly ok he needs to tighten up in hind movement.
Yearling Dog (6,2)

Another eyecatcher from this kennel. An easy winner, he is well constructed all through, nothing I would alter. Sound both fore & aft, classy head and eye. Movement is good and he has the usual ground covering movement one expects. Outline good and kept on the move, so very sound all through.
2nd Glukhova, Kapitan Nemo Iz Slavjanskoi Nadezhdy
A very different type from winner, shorter in body length than ours and a little taller on the leg. A very compact sound boy giving a good overall picture. He had a good head and expression, outline pleased, he moved soundly and correctly both fore & aft.
3rd Wolesey, Endless Beauty at Glyndwr
Nice type, typical min smooth. No major faults, his outline good and held on the moved. A little short in under rib. Needs to tighten behind.
