I have not judged this variety for a few years and all the dogs were new to me.
I was pleased to find in my main winners, exhibits that were unexaggerated,
balanced and moved well, keeping the same outline as when stacked. On the
positive side all dogs were well covered with only two tipping the scales.
Temperaments and mouths were good. Heads and eye shape has improved with no
"apple" heads evident. Sadly on the negative side movement left a lot to be
desired. Many of the exhibits had short upper arms resulting in a restricted,
"choppy" front action. The desired parallel, driving action from behind was only
evident in a few. Several that had a reasonable length of ribbing were over long
in loin. Tight, well padded feet were rare. Finally a note to some handlers. The
standard asks for the head to be carried forward giving a graceful line into the
shoulder. Some nice examples were spoilt by the handler holding the head back
and creating a right angle into the shoulder especially when stacked.
MPD (3,1) 1 Watkinson's Manakoora Arookanam. Smart 7mth BT. Attractive
head set on elegant neck flowing into a firm topline. Well angulated front and
rear. Elbows need to tighten and he needs to settle in hind action. Although
rather "leggy" in appearance I preferred his better hind angulation and neck to
2nd. BPD. 2 Phillips' Arbennik St Thomas of Robinswood. 7mth BT of different
type. Good head and expression. Nicely balanced with a firm topline. Lower to
ground than 1. Presented a good outline stacked. PD (). 1
Protheroe's Grandgables Crafty lil Deal at Royalmaple. 10mth Red. Attractive
head proudly carried on elegant neck, flowing into firm topline. Clean
underline. Prominent forechest. Would have preferred a bit more width all
through and more drive. LD (2) 1 Smith and Connor's Bronia
Gregorio. Compact and well proportioned 14mth B/T who presented a lovely outline
both stacked and moving. Attractive, masculine head. Lovely neck into well
placed shoulders. Oval thorax. Well angled front and rear. Correctly placed
forelegs. Prominent keel. Ribbing carried well back. Firm top and underline
which he maintained on the move . Movement was parallel with good length of
stride. Happy little chap who is a bit proud of his tail until settled. BD/BOS.
2 Punter's Welcumen Guinness. Cobbier type. Well proportioned head. Neat shape
stacked but lacked the hind angulation and movement of 1st. OD
(1) 1 Mathias' CH Siouxline Zebedee JW. B/T. Attractive head and expression.
Good length of neck and shoulder placement. Pleasing outline stacked. Prominent
forechest and oval thorax. Firm topline maintained on the move. Well sprung
ribbing of good length. Movement ok but not as free and true as I had expected
from his construction. Tipped the scales by several ounces. MPB.
(7,4). 1 Phillips' Lokmadi Leading Lady for Daxphilly. Lovely type feminine 8mth
B/T. Attractive head and expression. Nice length of neck into firm topline. Well
angled front and rear. Oval thorax. Well sprung ribbing of good length.
Preferred her sound free movement and better front action to 2nd. . 2nd
Mortlock's Hertsmerry Serenade. Red. Real baby at just 6mths. Different type to
1. Good overall shape. Would prefer a bit more ground clearance. Well sprung
ribbing of good length. Firm topline. Enthusiastic movement but short upper arm
resulting in restricted, choppy front action. 3 Watkinson's Manokoora Glow.
PB. (6,2). 1 Watkinson's Manakoora Kharma. Neat and feminine
red. Well sprung ribbing of good length with correct length of loin. Balanced
angulation front and rear. True movement coming and going. 2 Reed's Deercroft
Spring Promise. Elegant B/T. Lovely reach of neck into firm topline. Prominent
forechest. Preferred 1st truer movement. 3rd. Mathias' Siouxline Gemima of
Dapperdax. JB (4,2) 1 Rollinson's Cwymdarhian Lady Marmalade by
Diamonddax. Quality well balanced 16mth shaded red. I liked her flowing lines,
pleasing head and expression. Elegant neck into well placed shoulders and firm
topline. Oval front with prominent forechest. Deep keel with front legs set well
under. Well ribbed with strong loin. Good angulation front and rear. Her
movement was true with good reach and drive whilst maintaining her outline.
Happy to award her BB/BOB 2nd. Protheroe's AM/CAN CH Grandgables Ms French Kiss
at Royalmaple. Many of the same qualities as 1st when stacked, but preferred
length of upper arm and hind movement of 1. PGB (10,5) 1
Mortlock's Hertsmerry Catch a Star. Small, feminine red who flies round the ring
propelled by her hammy quarters. Parallell movement maintaining a good topline.
Prominent forechest. Well sprung ribbing of good length. Carrying a little too
much weight over her shoulders and would prefer a bit more ground clearance. 2
Bourne's Yaapeet Saskia. Good type. B/T. Lovely balanced outline stacked.
Attractive head and good length of neck. Moved true but lacked reach and drive.
3rd. Endersby's Mowbray Miss Miranda. LB (3,1) 1 Endersby's
Mowbray Marissa. Shaded red. Well balanced, pleasing outline stacked. Fair
length of neck. Prominent forechest. Good spring of rib. Moved true but lost
topline. 2 Sheppard's Thystine Red Brocade. Similar in type to one. Firmer in
topline and better neck but lost out on 1's truer movement and better turn of
stifle.OB. 2. 1st Child-Thomas and Ergis' CH Siouxline April Folly. Elegant red
with lovely neck flowing into firm topline. Well placed shoulders. Prominent
forechest and deep oval thorax. Neat underline. Ribbed well back. Moved true
with good drive from well angulated hindquarters. RBB. 2 Protheroe's AM/CAN CH
Grandgables MS Melting Moments at Royalmaple. Dark shaded red. Pleasing head and
expression. Balanced outline with flowing top and underline. Prominent forechest.
Moved freely. Just preferred hind angulation and drive of 1. P STAKES.
(10,9) 1 Cooper, Hendren and Steadman. Bronia McGregor. 7 mth Std Long. Stood
alone but I loved this red dog. Typical long, well proportioned head with kind,
intelligent expression. Elegant neck flowing into firm topline. Well placed
shoulders and good angulation all round. Prominent forechest. Well sprung
ribbing of good length. Lovely feet and bone. Moved true with good reach and
drive. PG STAKES (9,4) 1 Sutton's Lillymai Flower by Damai. Std
Long. B/T bitch. Pleasing outline. Excelled in Head, length of neck, strong
bone, prominent forechest , firm topline and ribbing. Moved freely and true
keeping a good outline. Could do with a bit more oomph. 2nd Cheese' Suecaseus
Desdemona. B/T Std Long. Half sister to 1st. Similar qualities apply. Just
preferred the neck and outline on the move of 1st. 3RD Yaapeet Saskia. MS.
O. STAKES (7,6) 1 Sutton's Damai Master Benedict. 9yr B/T Std Long.
Well proportioned dog. Elegant head carriage. Prominent forechest and nicely
angulated front and rear. Strong bone and well padded feet. Moved true both
ways. Sire of 1st and 2nd in PG stakes.n
