75
exhibits
with
just 9
away was
a goodly
entry
for my
1st
Dachshund
CC
appointment
and I am
grateful
to so
many
breed clubs,
the
Breed
Council
and
several
individual
mentors,
dating
back to
legends
like
Betty
Munt &
Bettie
Farrand,
for an
amazing
apprenticeship
that
included
choosing
Dachshund
of the
Year
2014.
I had
been
particularly
pleased
to have
the
opportunity
to judge
this
competitive
variety
first,
albeit I
found
type
& structure more
varied
than
anticipated
and with
weight
ranging
from 8
to 13
lbs. The
principal
bugbear
was
short
ribs
with
long
loins
rather
that
vice
versa.

Good
quality
to start
us off
1st:
Barrett's
Ayseebee
Rumour
Has It
7m b/t;
long,
conical
head; ex
structure;
well
constructed forehand;
balanced
rear
angles;
ribbed
back;
short
loin
with
slight
arch;
inevitably
moved
out
well;
must
have a
significant
future; his
unexaggerated,
compact
shape
saw him
through
to BPD.
2nd:
Protheroe's
Royalmaple
Anky
Panky
8m red;
100%
Grandgables,
sired by
LD
winner; frankly
of equal
merit;
correct
degree
of
refinement
in head;
gd eye &
muzzle;
well
developed
chest
with
clearance;
super
front;
back
"reasonably
level";
firm
rear;
destined
for
great
things;
a
grading
system
would
have
allowed
both
these
two
"stand
outs" to
be
marked
"Excellent."
3rd:
Phillips'
Stargang
High
Hopes Of
Robinswood
1st:
Hunt's
Carpaccio
Casablanca
10m b/t;
striking;
well
conditioned; lovely
headpiece;
full,
oval
thorax;
balanced
angles;
sound
moving;
longer
cast to
my eye,
as
against
the
proportions
of the
first two
above,
that the
maturing
process may
well
remedy.
2nd:
Williams
& Moes'
Cwmdarhian
You Been
Tangoed
10m
red; overall
body
proportions
helped
this
d. as
he lacked
ground
clearance
&
some loose
skin detracted;
lovely
shaped
head &
eye; gd
front;
well
muscled;
sound
moving
on ex
feet.
1st:
Scott's
Danton
Mr Brown
At
Wolferlow
12m
choc/tan;
gd head,
skull &
eye;
correct
proportions;
gd
backline;
rather
weak in
front &
lacks
forechest;
difficult
age but
has
advantage
of some
style
about
him.
2nd:
Thomas'
Royaldachs
Authorised
King
15m b/t;
in gd
condition;
ex
forechest;
gd
jacket;
irregular
topline
& cut up
in
underline;
rather
fine in
head;
suspect
maturity
will
make a
significant
difference.
1st:
Phillips'
Carpaccio
Mr
Selfridge
Of
Robinswood
19m b/t;
really
typy &
developing
well; gd
balance
in his
quality
head;
well
developed
forehand;
balanced
angulation
fore &
aft;
well
ribbed;
muscled
rump; gd
length
to
height
proportions;
a
yearling
of
obvious
promise
to
progress
up the
ranks.
2nd:
Smith's
Wolferlow
Admiral
Nelson
18m b/t;
rather
fine in
muzzle
as
against
skull;
rather
long in
loin as
against
rib but
relatively
early
days; ex
development
in
forehand;
correct length
to height
ratio;
well
conditioned;
didn't
project
himself
quite as
well.
3rd:
Fraser's
Donlaynes
Dauntless
1st:
Protheroe's
Grandgables
Crafty
Lil
Devil At
Royalmaple
just turned
2yrs
red;
strikingly
stylish,
balanced
d. with
his best
to come;
so gd to
go
over; long,
tapered
head; gd
neck &
forehand
giving
reach in
front &
gd flow
with
sharp
outline;
beautifully
conditioned;
well
ribbed
back;
can
still
firm behind
that
told in
the
challenge.
2nd:Paget
&
Carroll's
Bronia
Valente
Of
Marvale
rising
2yrs
b/t;
another
quality
d &
found
these
two to
be
interchangeable;
loved
his
proportions;
bit
heavier
in
skull;
less gd
in front
with a
consequent
lack of
reach;
equally
gd body
proportions;
outstanding
behind
being
well
muscled
& so
strong
moving,
maintaining
his
outline.
3rd:
Phillips'
Arbennik
St
Thomas
Of
Robinswood
1st:
Mitchell's
Ygeia
Landgraf 1
For
Bronia
(Imp,
Swe)
20m
brindle;
something
of a
Marmite
d. I
imagine;
used to
hate
that
myself
but love
it now
my
palette
has
changed!
So I
have had
to
re-educate
myself
as to
the
redefined
interpretation
of the
outdated
phrase "long,
level &
low".
Here was
a
functional
dachshund
with
ground
clearance,
slightly
arched
loin &
correct
2:1 body
proportions;
super
head
that was
conical
&
tapered
with
gorgeous
eyes;
well
ribbed
back;
sound,
flowing movement;
a
Swedish/Canadian
collaboration
that
will
surely
benefit
the
breed in
the UK.
Certainly
turned a
few
heads in
the
Group.
CC& BOB
to gain
his
title.
2nd:
Smith &
Connor's
Ch
Bronia
Gregorio
JW ShCM
2.5yrs
b/t;
certainly
I
had no better
trained
&
conditioned
exhibit
who
positively
shone;
utmost
quality;
balanced
angles;
ex body
proportions;
full
thorax;
firmly
muscled rear
providing
drive;
lighter
eye &
less clean
in front; sheer
breed
type &
arrogant
style
earned
him
Reserve
Dog CC.
1st:

8m
shaded
red;
super

truly
has a
bright
future.

came
into her

accurate
footfall.

Pumpkin
1st:
Shelton's
Barisse
Donnamira;
16m red;
super
sound &
secure;
depth &
development
through
forechest
but with
clearance;
front
matched
by full

clearly
maturing
into an
adult
well
capable
of
holding
her own.

16m of
ex breed

to hold

this
numerically
strong
class.

1st:
Williams'
Manacas
Amber
Cover
At
Wilmerella(Imp,Swe)
2yrs
red;
liked
the fact
she was
moderate
without
exaggeration;
thoroughly
typical;
compact;
enough
clearance;
long,
tapering
head
with
strength
through
muzzle;
well
constructed
&
beautifully
conditioned;
moved
out
soundly
with
long
stride
& style;
maintained
her form
in the
challenge
to earn
Bitch
CC, her
2nd
evidently,
making
it a
double
for the
Swedes!
2nd:
Blackburn's
Stargang
Desert
Vixen;
2.5yrs;
the
essence
of "bold
defiance";
quality,
feminine
head
albeit a
tendency
to fly
her
ears;
such
spot on
structure
&
proportions with
ex
ribbing
&
balanced
angles;
a touch
deep for
ideal
clearance;
immaculately
conditioned;
not as
"gradual"
in
underline;
gave
nothing
away on
the move
being so
accurate.
