MIN S/H – An enjoyable day among the Minis at this well organised show. Pity it clashed with a general ch show offering classes without CCs. Good to see there is still depth of quality among the bitches, though sad not to see a few more dog puppies. Was delighted with the CC winners, both with fearless attitude, super head carriage, a good long stride & sensible ground clearance. There was just one male that I felt could have done with more covering. Quite a variation in head type, a few reverting to the old mini look of short muzzles & bulgy eyes. As usual I tended to reward those who kept their shape going round & strode out with drive & style.
V (2) 1 Kent’s Ch Barratini Jeeves at Lokmadi, super nearly 8 years b/t, has great appeal for his super attitude & ring presence & ever wagging tail, masculine head type, well shaped eyes, good slightly arched neck, enough forechest, well made hindquarters, sound steady mover holding his topline, strong contender for RCC; 2 Hughes’ Minimead Maid To Love for Julidachs, classy type 7 years b/t bitch, feminine head, slightly bold in eye, correct front with the right angles, low to ground without exaggeration, sound mover, not quite the drive or topline on the move of 1. MPD (1) 1 Barnes’ Swingletrees Viva Las Vegas, just 6 months b/t, good male head, OK bone, correct feet, sound hindquarters, front assembly slightly forward placed, moved well behind, could have more reach in front. JD (5) 1 Coxon’s D’Arisca Danish Diplomat, quality shaded/r, well balanced, super front angles, good forechest, adequate bone, excellent topline & hindquarters, looked well going round retaining his shape; 2 Phillips’ Stargang Devil-May-Care of Robinswood, rather exciting red, frustrated me today by playing up on the table, a pity as he has so much to admire & would have put up a strong challenge to 1, hope he settles down quickly. Slightly stronger made than 1, impressive head type, good neck & forechest, better underline than 1 though not quite so good in feet, excellent flow into topline, moved purposefully. Two excellent youngsters; 3 Shutt’s Donnadoon Waterloo Sunset. ND (4) 1 S Devil-May-Care of R; 2 Rudkin’s Dynastydax Diamond Geezer, solidly made b/t, masculine head, good eye, stood true in front though not quite the angulation of 1, well bodied, OK hind angles, moved true behind, not forereach of 1; 3 Oakley & Pearson’s Travellers Joy of Ardenrun. PGD (6) 1 Smith’s Wolferlow Admiral Nelson, b/t, won a difficult class on his overall type & balance, good head type though would prefer a more almond eye, OK neck, enough bone, best topline in the class, slightly upright in shoulder but has a good steady side gait; 2 Parish’s Melriding Lambert Simnel of Garlandelms, smaller red, OK type, enough neck, reasonable head carriage, a shade narrow in front & could be truer in front movement, good hindquarters, not quite bone of 1; 3 Phillips’ Arbennik St Thomas of Robinswood. LD (3) All good ones. 1 RCC, Protheroe’s Royalmaple Anky Panky, very smart smaller red, so neatly made, moved very much all of a piece, super front, correct bone for size, scored on set & angulation of shoulders, matching hindquarters, moved absolutely true, good head & expression; 2 Hunt’s Ch Carpaccio Casablanca, closest decision of the day, lovely type b/t, elegant outline, reachy neck, masculine outlook, good length of ribbing. Splitting hairs, admired this one’s slightly houndier outline, the winner scored slightly on front angles & showed a shade more reach & drive on the final go round; 3 Callow’s Garthorne Jackson. OD (6) Enjoyable class. 1 CC & BOB, Barrett’s Ch Ayseebee Rumour Has It, b/t, caught my eye straight away with his ultra masculine outlook & arrogant head carriage, plenty of dog in a small space, defied me into thinking only about who would be second! Quality head, super expression, reachy neck, well ribbed back, true front & rear, bone in proportion, sound both ways with a steady side gait, topline held immaculately, natural showman in super condition; 2 Paget & Carroll’s Bronia Valente of Marvale, handsome substantial b/t, excellent front angles, correct expression, held his topline, looked the part going round, not quite so immaculate coming & going as 1 but a super type; 3 Coxon’s Ch Distinctly So D’Arisca.
MPB (5) 1 Burton’s Swingletrees Stararni Dahl, just 6 months b/t, all you could wish for at that age, very self possessed little person with lots of quality, pretty feminine head, good angles & forechest, remarkably sound & collected mover for such a baby, look forward to seeing if she fulfils her promise; 2 Handy’s Pelirroja Goodnight Girl, quality elegant shaded/r, slightly rangier type, good shoulders & length of ribbing, moved out smartly with loads of enthusiasm! Not as settled as yet in topline as 1; 3 Scott’s Wolferlow Miami. PB (6) 1 BP, Ergis’ Siouxline Esther Rose, gorgeous quality clear red, daughter of BCC & very much in the same mould, super feminine head, elegant neckline which gives that touch of class, clean well laid shoulders into correct topline, well angulated behind, moved soundly with plenty of enthusiasm & a long stride; 2 S Stararni Dahl; 3 W Miami. JB (6) 1 RCC, Hunt’s Carpaccio Blithe Spirit, beautiful type b/t with that elusive touch of quality, combines elegance & substance, correct head & eye shape, the right angles both end plus forechest & plenty of ribbing into the correct length of loin, excellent all round mover retaining her topline. Not quite the sheer joie de vivre of the CC winner; 2 Protheroe’s Royalmaple Beryl The Peril, attractive red, needs to settle on the table but an excellent type, sound front, correct shoulders & forechest, scores on the move with plenty of reach & drive, just preferred 1’s hind angles; 3 Coxon’s D’Arisca Danish Delicacy. NB (1) 1 Lombardelli’s Kelmbeck De Montespan of Melriding, VHC in PB, pretty smaller type b/t, feminine head, good expression, sound front with good feet, OK bone, well bodied, would prefer more hind angulation. Moved OK in front, close behind, topline could be firmer on the move. PGB (10) 1 Burton’s Swingletrees Xtravaganza, classy b/t of super type & balance, sound all through, very good front & forechest, excellent length of ribbing, hind angles match the front, steady side gait. Daughter of BV & has proved her worth as dam of the lovely baby, & was herself a strong contender for RCC; 2 Coxon’s Sundsdal’s Dirty Diana, red, interesting Danish girl, slightly different, leggier type to the usual from this kennel but with lots of virtues, scores on an elegant line through her neck to her excellent topline, pretty head, true front, sound front, well angulated behind, just preferred 1’s forechest & head carriage. She too has already made a mark as dam of the quality junior dog; 3 Kent’s Lokmadi On Silent Wings. LB (9) 1 Thomas’ Royaldach Authorized Queen, strongly boned b/t, smart outline, good general make & shape, appealing head carriage, sound coming & going with OK side gait, could be a shade more feminine; 2 Ergis & Melbourne’s Siouxline Rapunzel with Melriding, prettier smaller lower shaded/r, excellent type, good neck & length of ribbing, not quite the scope or reach in front as 1; 3 Russell’s Russteck Plum Duff. OB (8) Spoilt for choice here. 1 CC, Ergis’ Ch Siouxline Aurora, beautiful elegant red, at 5 years has lost none of her feminine charm, plenty of scope, lovely head type, clean outline, plenty of neck & smooth topline, came into her own going round with a long reachy stride. Dam of the ‘mini me’ puppy, nice to see the good bitches reproducing themselves so well; 2 Callow’s Garthorne Miss Toffee, lower to ground red of super type & quality, very nicely put together & moved accordingly, well ribbed, enough substance, could just project her many virtues with a bit more enthusiasm; 3 Coxon’s D’Arisca Damsel In A Dress.
