I last judged the breed 3 years ago & then was impressed by the quality in both sexes. Would have said they were one of the strongest varieties. While I was happy with my principle winners today I have to say that the overall quality was disappointing this time. Front assembly was poor in many & too many are high in hock giving poor movement throughout. My pet hate in any breed is long nails & I could have made a lot of money in nail clipper sales today! It spoils the feet & shape so much. Ribbing on the whole was OK. Leg length is sadly lacking in a number of dogs/bitches. We must have daylight underneath this low slung breed. Weight & condition were good overall. In entries like today I would have preferred to have  been in Europe where a critique & grading could have been done. Sadly many would have been given good & very good, with excellents being in the minority. Sad to write this on a lovely breed & I do hope the quality strengthens in the near future.

PD (3,1a) 1 Tite’s Ayseebee Candy Apple Red, nicely balanced baby, carried headpiece, dark eye, clean outline with good length of ribbing, hocks could be lower but overall holds his shape & outline well on move, promising puppy. BP; 2 Dunhill’s Gellijams Aldanti, masculine dog with strong bone, a little loose in skin, OK forechest, ribs could be longer, needs to develop in front, held topline, not as settled on move as 1. JD (5) 1 Scott’s Wolferlow Will Scarlet, lovely head with no exaggeration, elegant neck, good length of leg, neat feet, holds firm topline at all times, hocks a little high, lovely coat & skin, easy mover; 2 Lewis’ Trixhund Bring Me Sunshine, outgoing youngster with balanced conical head, nice expression, a little steep in shoulder, needs more length of rib, muscled rear; 3 Phillips’ Stargang Devil-May-Care of Robinswood. PGD (6) Very mixed class. 1 Williams’ Wilmerella Wells Fargo, has good balance with correct length of leg & daylight underneath, pleasing head & expression, prefer a little more fill under eye, good forechest & front, lovely skin, ribs & tailset, hocks could be lower set; 2 Phillips’ Arbennik St Thomas of Robinswood, shorter in foreface than 1, dark eye, good bone, neat feet, a little short in neck, well sprung ribs, deep chest, tailset a little high, good muscletone; 3 Fieke’s Lustrum Cushendall. LD (4,1) 1 Protheroe’s Royalmaple Anky Panky, nicely proportioned headpiece, good earset, prefer less throat, moderate neck, OK chest, long ribcage, firm topline, prefer neater feet, lovely coat & skin, free profile mover with nice outline; 2 Carey’s Swingletrees Abracadabra, taller dog but would prefer more bone, nice expression, needs longer ribcage & firmer topline, OK feet, not as clean in outline as 1; 3 Fieke’s Lustrum Bachelor Boy. OD (7,1) 1 Ergis’ Ch Siouxline Flynn Rider, very well collected honest dog, nice to put your hands on, moderate forechest, long ribcage, well muscled loin, holds topline well at all times, positive mover, ideally like a tighter front, excellent condition, very nice. CC; 2 Burton’s Swingletrees Razzamatazz, smart dog who once settled put on a good performance, good leg length, OK feet, conical head, with dark eye, very sound mover, prefer him a shade shorter in loin, firm muscletone. Two nice dogs & a close decision. RCC; 3 Williams, Moes & Harp-Jones’ Cwmdarhian Tropic Thunder at Carlita. GCD (0).

VB (1) 1 Hughes’ Minimead Maid To Love for Julidachs, solid built veteran, conical head, a little round in eye, good forechest, neat feet, well sprung ribs, holds topline well on move, low set hocks, in tip top condition. PB (6) All very raw & immature babies, each need to tighten up in fronts & rears. 1 Burton’s Swingletrees Star Arni Dahl, has nice balance with feminine head, good leg length, excellent feet, positive mover with angular rear, nice type but not totally settled; 2 Scott’s Wolferlow Miami, another well proportioned youngster, good bone, excellent neat feet, nice head & expression, needs to fill out in front, holds her topline well, close decision, will improve with maturity; 3 Handy’s Pelirrojoa Goodnight Girl. JB (4) 1 Hunt’s Carpaccio Blithe Spirit, honest typy bitch, clean outline, conical headpiece with elegant neck, good front assembly, tight feet, positive mover holding topline at all times, hocks could be lower set; 2 Blackburn’s Stargang Fallen Angel, longer cast than 1 & not as settled to go over, feminine head with dark expressive eye, deep chest, prefer neater feet, angular rear, not giving her all today; 3 Hemming’s Clipperdown Gipsy Woman. PGB (8,1) 1 Carey’s Debbiejay Magical Spell, feminine head & expression, well proportioned throughout, well sprung ribs, muscled loin, neat feet, moderate angle, unexaggerated, sound typy Dachshund; 2 Ergis’ Siouxline Esther Rose, another nicely balanced bitch, good leg length, needs to develop in front, compact feet, firm topline, just preferred rear on 1, super condition & skin, positive mover; 3 Burton’s Swingletrees Xtravaganza. LB (9,2) 1 Blackburn-Bennett’s Stargang Star Anise, solid well made bitch, detailed headpiece with lovely eye, elegant neck, good jacket, tight feet, long ribbing, loin could be shorter, free mover with firm topline. Was more of a longer cast bitch than my CC winner but felt she had good attributes to deserve RCC; 2 Protheroe’s Royalmaple Beryl The Peril, nicely balanced bitch with good length of leg, finer muzzle than 1, OK forechest, not as settled on move as could like, lovely skin & condition, placed her feet well on move; 3 Reed’s Deercroft Summer Serenade. OB (5,2) 1 Rollinson’s Cwmdarhian Lady Marmalade by Diamonddax, lovely feminine head & expression, dark eye, moderate balanced angles, firm topline with well sprung ribs, compact loin, ideally like lower set hocks, sound mover from all angles, tip top muscular condition. Overall felt she put on the best performance. CC & BOB; 2 Williams’ Ch Manacas Amber Cover at Wilmerella, slightly stronger set than 1, has good leg length, dark eye, well placed ears, a little fine in muzzle, good forechest, neat feet, holds topline well, ideally like more strength in rear movement, still a nice typy bitch; 3 Hemming’s Clipperdown Gipsy Woman. GCB (1) 1 Neill-Fraser’s Ch Siouxline Thomasina, feminine headed lady with dark eye, good bone & feet, well sprung ribs, holds a good topline, moderate angles, in lovely condition, well proportioned.
