Fourth time lucky! I was due to judge at the 2019
show, then 2020, then April 2021: thanks to the secretary and
committee for keeping me ‘on the books’ as Covid reeked its havoc
through life generally and dog showing specifically. It did have one
advantage in that the event was now designed to precede the Scottish
Kennel Club show over ensuing days, and numbers of exhibits,
especially Mini Smooths and wires, were clearly up. Fortunately, we
also had the advantage of being an indoors show on the back of the
SKC event. I am extremely grateful to my two stewards who kept
things moving along especially as we came under pressure after lunch
to complete before best in show – but at the same time giving
exhibitors value for money in going over their dogs carefully.
P (5, 1) I started my judging with possibly the most
difficult class of all, four very even 6 month old puppies with very
little to choose between them. 1 Reed’s She’z Worth the Wait Dor
Puddledub. Red bitch, pleasing feminine head, good eye, decent
length of neck, sufficient clearance, good top line, correct
ribbing, enough angulation, and moved well and with confidence. BP.
2 Bullis’ Amaffrey Jimmy Mack. Red dog of correct size, good top and
underlines, not quite the length of neck as the winner, decent rear
angulation, good clearance, moved well but not with quite such verve
as the winner, though on another day could easily have been first. 3
Morris & Waddells’ Crosscop Tuttie Frutti.
J (5,1) 1 Cross’ Loggeta Pickled Lilly. 13 month old
B/T bitch, feminine head, correct eye shape, decent length of neck
flowing into correct shoulders, good lines top and underneath, tight
feet, well balanced and moved with confidence and power with
parallel action front and rear, good clearance. BJ & BB. 2 Bullis’
Amaffrey Bridget Jones. B/T bitch, 15 months old, slightly more
compact than class winner, feminine head, good length of neck, level
top line and good ribbing, moved well but front action not quite as
straight as first in class. 3 Strange’s Cazdachs Time To Shine. N
(3) 1 Cumberland’s Mumysami So What. Red bitch, nice size, balanced
and all in proportion, pleasing feminine head and eye, decent front,
good rear angulation, tight feet, moved well with parallel action. 2
Whyte’s Dachienne Strawberry Swing. Red bitch, just 12 months old,
pleasing head and eye, tight feet, good neck, strong front, maybe a
tad short in upper arm, level topline, good clearance, movement not
quite as fluent as winner. 3 Graham’s Shantallah Georgiana.
G (7,1) 1 Bullis’ Amaffrey Truly Scumptious. Shaded
red/brindle bitch, 18 months old, good head and eye, compact, just
enough clearance, good top line, strong rear quarters, moved well
and confidently. 2 Stewart’s Stargang Tyrion. 6 year old brindle
dog, good front, decent length of ribbing, level topline, well
proportioned, and moved well but not quite as fluently as class
winner. 3 Cumberland’s Mumysami So Distinct.
PG (4) 1 Kent’s Lokmadi Catherine Wheel JW. B/T, two
year old bitch, lovely head and eye, good neck, good strong front,
perhaps a tad deep in chest, pleasing outlines, moved well and with
confidence. RBB. 2 Rose’s Pennydach Mystique At Rosencrantz. B/T
bitch, three years old, correct size, though again maybe a tad deep
in chest, good prosternum, level topline, not exaggerated at rear,
moved well though not quite as well as class winner. 3 Whyte’s
Chequevar Paddington Bear At Dachienne JW. RBD. (My apologies to
this dog and his owners for not writing a critique, he came third in
this class behind two girls but still won Reserve BD).
OD (3) 1 Kent’s Lokmadi Sand Dollar. Not quite two
years old, fawn dog but with good dark colouration where it
mattered, good size and all in proportion, masculine head, good dark
eye, decent neck, correct clearance, powerful hindquarters which he
used to his advantage moving with ease and purpose, BD and BOB. 2
Bullis’ Amaffrey Will I Am. 22 months old B/T boy, good size, well
proportioned, good clearance, masculine head, correct eye, neck
might be longer, level topline, moved well and fairly straight but
without the drive of class winner. 3 Strange’s Stargang Magic Alfie
Moon.
OB (4,1) 1 Ergis’ Ch Siouxline Rapunzel With
Melriding. Eight year old red bitch, very feminine, good head and
neck, strong front, correct ribbing, classy mover, but a little weak
at rear when stacked. BV. 2 Kent’s Lokmadi Jingle Belle. 21 month
old red bitch, feminine head but not the neck of first, a little
deep in chest, level topline, good ribbing, moved with confidence. 3
Shutt’s Donnadoon Carolina Moon.
SB (4,1) 1 Whyte’s Dachienne Strawberry Swing.
Description as above. BSB. 2 Rose’s Ardenrun Foolish Whisper At
Rosencrantz. Two year old red brindle bitch, pleasing head and eye,
good length of neck, good angulation but not with the movement of
class winner and a bit close behind. 3 Rose’s Amaffrey Jimmy Mack.
