It’s been a few years since I judged the breed and while the breed has much improved, the size is getting out of control. Exhibitors and breeders alike need to re-evaluate the standard when it comes to size. I worked out the average weight of adult males present in my entry to be 12lb 1oz, with the vast majority being extremely large in size but not carrying too much weight, and bitches being 11lb 7oz - most were within the advised limit, only a few were exceptionally large. I don’t mind well covered dogs breaking the 11lb advisory but when they are reaching up to 13lb 6oz, it needs to be addressed. I can only speak of the entry I had and not all who show but it was a quantitative entry to assume there is an issue. It is only a degree of fault but they are meant to be a miniature. The number of handlers I pulled up who held the lead to reduce the weight on the scales doesn’t help this issue, your dog weighs what it weighs and you can see a difference in size in the line-up!

Veteran Dog (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: SCOTT Wolferlow Will Scarlet JW. Nice head and reach of neck. Lacking prosternum but has good depth of ribbing. Good topline and underline. Balanced fore and rear quarters but would prefer more length of upper arm and second thigh. Good clean movement coming towards but tended to paddle a little moving away. Overall too big in size.

Minor Puppy Dog (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: METCALFE-BILGIN Metadale Due Diligence. Very raw 8 month old red. Good head and reach of neck. Nice amount of prosternum and depth of ribbing in chest. Shoulders well placed with good length of upper arm. Rear quarters well balanced to fore. Lost his outline on the move but could do with a lot more weight on which I’m sure would correct the outline. Correct size. BPD.

Puppy Dog (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: CROSS & BLACK Riowood Red Boots. Lovely correct size boy. Slightly heavier head than I prefer. Good lay of shoulder but would prefer more length of upper arm. Good depth of chest and kept a lovely outline on the stack and move. Rear very well angulated. Moved well.

Junior Dog (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: PAGET & CARROLL Marvale Red Cardinal. Really liked this boy’s type and correct size. Nice head, good reach of neck, lovely outline, good lay of shoulder with good return of upper arm. Rear quarters balanced to the fore. Unfortunately, he didn’t seem to like the atmosphere which restricted my ability to assess him on the move.

2nd: JENNINGS Marvale A Royal Affair. Very large black and tan. Nice head, good prosternum and depth of ribbing. Would prefer more width in front on the move but had good drive from the rear.

Novice Dog (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: JENNINGS Marvale Northern Cardinal at Jenivon. Good head and reach of neck. Decent lay of shoulder with good return of upper arm. Rear not as well angulated as the fore quarters. Very big in size and too long for my liking. Would prefer longer ribbing. Moved well.

Post Graduate Dog (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: DALTON Llansansiors Mr Cinnaman. Very large in size. Good head and reach of neck, good topline and underline. Rear balanced with fore quarters. Moved well with drive but lacking in muscle tone.

2nd Withheld

Limit Dog (7 Entries) Abs: 2
1st:  MASON Teckeltown Master Piece JW. A touch too big in size but also well covered. Decent head, good reach of neck and well-made shoulders. Good top and underline with neat well angulated rear. Would prefer more reach and drive on the move.

2nd: BAND & MCCARTHY Carpaccio Red Alert For Essandsee. Lovely head. Nice lay of shoulder. Well balanced fore and rear quarters but preferred the angulation of 1. Moved well.
3rd: MUTTON Ivan Poddubny Iz Omskoi Kreposti For Montone (Imp Russia)

Open Dog (6 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: PEEL & ANDISON Clentry Donnie Darco. Too big in size but conformation and movement he excelled. Good head and reach of neck. Lovely lay of shoulder and return of upper arm. Rear quarters balanced with the fore and used them both to his advantage on the move. Well covered solid body with good topline, good length and depth of ribbing and good outline at all times. Won the CC on his movement in the line-up.
2nd: PAGET & CARROLL Riowood Black Jack. Large in size. Nice head, decent fore quarters with good ribbing. Not the rear quarters of 1. Would prefer more drive on the move.
3rd: MASON Teckeltown Something Magic

Champion Dog (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: Tite’s Ch Ayseebee Twinkling Star. A touch on the big side but well covered and muscled. Good head and reach of neck. Decent lay of shoulder and return of upper arm. Well angulated rear which he used lovely on the move keeping a lovely outline. RCC.

2nd: Kent’s Ch Lokmadi Sand Dollar. Nice head and decent lay of shoulder. Would prefer more length of upper arm. Good length and depth of ribbing. Moved out well but lost his outline a little on the move. Would prefer more width in front.

Veteran Bitch (3 entries) Abs: 1
1st Ergis’ Ch Siouxline Rapunzel With Melriding. Nice bitch of correct size. Good overall shape with well angulated fore and rear quarters. Kept a good shape on the stack and on the move. Unfortunately, didn’t show for the line-up.

2nd John’s Kenquartz Canasta. Nice bitch in good condition. Lovely head and reach of neck. Decent lay of shoulder but would prefer more length of upper arm. Well angulated rear quarters. Not the balance of 1 and as such her topline waivered on the move.

Minor Puppy Bitch (11 Entries) Abs: 0

Post Graduate Bitch (11 Entries) Abs: 3
1st: GITTINS Markidachs Saffrons Gift at Boomerloo. Nice, neat shape keeping a good line at all times. Nice head, good pro sternum. Would prefer a little more angulation in front and rear but balanced all the same. Good action on the move.
2nd: MAGRI Rayol Rejoice with Rozamie. Elegant, a little taller than 1. Nice head, good reach of neck and lay of shoulder. Good topline and ribbing. Would prefer a touch more length of upper arm. Decent rear angulation. Looked good on the move.
