It was an honour to be invited to judge my variety at this prestigious event, having had a long association with this variety, it was of interest to see how the breed has progressed in recent years. With it being the Miniature Dachshund Club and exhibits needing to be weighed. This made for some challenging decisions, wherein weight had to be considered as being a fault and to what degree, thus in several classes making prioritisation when trying to place the most worthy examples of the breed in order of merit. Thanks to exhibitors for an overall quality entry.
Dachshund (Miniature Smooth Haired)
Veteran Dog (4,2)
1 Phillips – Stargang High Hopes of Robinwood, loved this old red fella, nice head, darkest of eyes, good neck, enough prosternum and good length sternum, moved well for his age.
2 Ward-Blower’s – Whitewebbs Sweet William at Willowmist, lovely headed, pronounced forechest, a little arched in topline, elbows could be cleaner, still had nice well knuckled feet.
Minor Puppy Dog (4)
1 Reynolds’s – Kleinstar Moongazer, loved this promising puppy with lovely houndy head with roman nose, well fronted already, with good length of sternum, nice tight feet, at first a bit exuberant on the move at first nice when settled.
2 Dunhill’s – Gellijams The Rifleman, pleasing black and tan, liked his head and expression, good neck, shoulder a bit high placed, long and low, coat had a slight wave.
3 Reynolds’s Kleinstar Blue Moon.
Puppy Dog (6,2)
1 Mason’s – Teckeltown Surspicious Mind, handsome black and tan commands attention, excelled on move with reach and drive, loved his head and neck, level topline, correct turn of stifle, feet need to tighten.
2 Gittens’s- Boomerloo’s Robin, loved the true miniature size of this black and tan, loved his front assembly and length of sternum, good feet, a little unsettled on table and tended to arch topline, which settled on the move, true sound moving out and back. Needs time one I will watch with interest.
3 O’Connell’s – Rijobeau Rumours with Llennocor.
Junior Dog (6,1)
1 Woods’s – Kelcardi Planet Mars, loved this orange red, super head with big rounded ears, good prosternum and length of sternum, moved with reach and drive maintained a level topline. Hope to see him in cards in future.
2 Spencer’s – Lokmadi Sandstone at Bannonbrig, clear red with nice head and eye, bit wrinkled om skull and legs, good length of sternum, bit slack in topline on move hope it tightens up, liked his front coming towards.

Think he could have better days when he performs on form.
