My thanks to Driffield for the invitation and opportunity to again judge this lovely variety of Dachshund. It was a long day for many but a great opportunity to have two shows in one on this lovely racecourse for the final time; a tough ask for any Committee to manage the challenges & logistics of the task in hand and at the end of the day all was complete; hopefully there were lots of happy exhibitors among you. My two stewards were amazing and kept the classes up to speed as much as possible as we didn’t start until later in the afternoon making a 6pm end for those that stayed the course. Some of the hindquarters left quite a bit to be desired if I am honest however, quality and competition in some of the classes was very competitive & thankfully most of the dentition was as required, congratulations to the final winners and wish you all success for the future.
Dachshund Miniature Smooth-Haired
Special Beginners Dog (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1st Cato’s Jenivon's Alexandra Of Earldax black/tan nicely handled with good
conical head of nice balance, scissor bite, rounded ears, good length of neck,
decent lay of shoulder, level topline & well angled sound rear, his carriage
around the ring taking him smoothly forward.
2nd Richardson’s Teckeltown Etlon John beautifully handled red, had a good
strong neck & good fore chest well filled, front not quite as tidy as 1, level
topline, good underline although slightly long cast, croup & quarters angled &
firm, parallel rear action.
Minor Puppy Dog (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1st Small’s Marvale Sparrowhawk For Devondax red/brindle, attractive & scores
well in head with good proportions, almond dark eye, good jaw & bite, good
forechest & pro sternum, slightly longer cast which shows in topline on the
move, good rump & angled rear, took off around the ring with ease.
Puppy Dog (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st Bullis’s Amaffrey Sirius Black, liked the overall look, size, shape &
balance of this black/tan, head & eye were good, muscled neck into good shoulder
placement & return, forechest prominent with ribbing extending well back, strong
short loin, angled hindquarters, good prospect. If you watched him move in
profile he displayed the right forward balance that you would expect in this
breed. BPD
& Best Puppy
Junior Dog (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1st Fleming’s Brogansian Fleetwood shapely black/tan presenting a really lovely
outline, lean conical head, good scissor bite, shoulder placement good & nice
return of upper arm, good width to front filled well, good clearance, ribbing &
underline good, topline strong & nicely rounded rump, tail set well, moved out
with freedom and ease, Res.DCC
2nd Cato’s Jenivon's Alexandra Of Earldax – see
critique Sp.Beginners class
Post Graduate Dog (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1st Gittins Boomerloo's Robin black/tan nicely balanced body outline with maybe
a tad too much stop for preference with a fraction shorter muzzle proportion,
good in jaw, neck & shoulders flowing & blending well, elbows held nicely, good
oval front when viewed, ribcage sturdy & blending back to give nice underline,
kept his topline, moved with good forward action.
Limit Dog (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st Carey’s Shantallah What A Lark Around Debbiejay, shaded red nicely
proportioned head with slight roman nose, almond eye & ear set rounded & nicely
placed, neck of reasonable length, good forechest but ribs could be better
developed & sprung to be ideal and my preference would be for ribs to go back
further, was a bit loose coming towards when moving, in profile kept good
outline with drive from the rear.
Open Dog (8 Entries) Abs: 3
1st O’Connell’s Ch Rijobeau Rumours with Llennocor JW, nicely developed classy &
muscular black/tan, has good proportions, loads of elegance & looks every inch a
very nice example of this breed with well angled strongly boned legs holding his
frame well he exudes the general appearance, intelligence & carriage the breed
is renowned for, gliding around the ring with soundness on well-padded feet,
showing the free forehand reach & rear drive required. Unfortunately, didn’t
stay on for the Hound Group however understandably it was a long day for
everyone. Dog
CC & BOB
2nd Bullis’ Amaffrey Henry, quality black/tan that had the proportions I was
looking for topped off with super male well balanced head, dark eye, strength of
neck good shoulder & return, with classic wrap around front & good clearance,
slightly larger frame, good topline & loin, rounded rump & good parallel
quarters, so so very close for the final awards here narrowly missing out,
should make the grade & gain his title.
3rd Coxon’s Ch D'arisca Dinner At Eight
Special Beginners Bitch (5 Entries) Abs: 0
1st Bosworth’s Bronia Solange at Louromi attractive shaded red liked her head
which had good balance, shape & typical features, very pleasing angulation both
fore and rear, good body proportions, at 10 months is a nice prospect, moved out
very well with lovely forehand reach & rear drive. Best
Special Beginners.
2nd Holmes Debiandaxies Derry Girl another very attractive exhibit, red with
pleasing & typical conical head set on good neck, nicely angled she had good
ribbing, level topline, was strong in body just a touch longer cast, moved out
nicely, rear needs to strengthen.
3rd Stoddard’s Poppyville Black Magic
Veteran Bitch (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st Lunt’s Marvale Silver Sorceress At Louarne, nicely marked 9 year old dapple
of lovely proportions, very feminine and liked her overall size, shape &
construction, body had good proportions and was well muscled & held her outline
well moving around the ring beautifully, liked her. Best Veteran
Minor Puppy Bitch (4 Entries) Abs: 0
1st Small’s Jade Marvale Golden Oriole For Devondax very attractive red with
super head balance, good eye, nice roman nose & good jaw, ears set well, good
strong neck to well angled forehand, oval chest showing her ample heart room,
nice clearance, nicely sprung ribcage, level topline & strong loin, well angled
hindquarters, in this class moved out very well & was just pipped in the
challenge, has definite promise & will watch her progress.
2nd Graham’s Portmoll Primadonna, red proportionally pleasing for size & shape,
very feminine & was shown off to advantage, liked her neck into shoulder
placement, good ribbing with keel extending back well, lovely underline &
topline, reasonable angulation, moved out very well here.
3rd Stoddard’s Poppyville Black Magic
Puppy Bitch (5 Entries) Abs: 1
1st Wilson’s Atikan Give Them Merry Hell clear red presenting a good overall
shape, liked her for type, her conical head was feminine & balanced, good ear
set, reasonable neck, nicely angled front & back, good forechest, clearance &
ribbing, held topline well, was unexaggerated in all departments, good hind
angulation that was used with strong drive when moving around, true coming &
going, should have a nice show career.
2nd Bosworth’s Bronia Solange At Louromi – see
critique Special Beginners Bitch
3rd Bullis’s Amaffrey Jinny Weasley
Junior Bitch (4 Entries) Abs: 1
1st Bullis’s Amaffrey Cat Balou nicely presented black/tan with balance
overall, she was feminine with a head of good proportions, good bite, ears
shaped & held nicely, good neck blending into well angulated front, good
clearance with ribs well sprung & extending back nicely, good loin, angled
quarters, good feet, moved out very well.
2nd Metcalfe-Bilgin’s Metadale Legacy Of Love attractive red happy girl & liked
her size & balance, great expression, well angled fore & aft, good forechest,
ribbing, clearance good, from profile demonstrated how the front legs should
cover the lowest point of the breastbone, she moved out with freedom & energy,
pliant skin, close decision.
3rd Holmes’ Debiandaxies Derry Girl
Post Graduate Bitch (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1st Carey & Walker’s Debbiejay Jammy Lass, black/tan pretty & feminine with good
balance, nice forehand, good pro sternum & good well sprung ribcage, short loin,
moved with freedom, was a bit loose on the rear today.
Limit Bitch (7 Entries) Abs: 2
1st Small’s Glynlythe's Heirloom For Devondax JW loved her aristocracy, red with
some style heading this closely contested class, feminine & nicely balanced
conical head, lovely expression from her dark eyes, good strong neck flowing
well into her shoulders, very good forechest, wrap around front, nicely angled,
ribs extending back & blending through her underline, good topline & loin, clean
rounded rump nice hammy muscle, good angled hindquarters, stood on good padded
feet, she moved out with good forward reach, freedom & drive & narrowly took
this class over the second placed.
2nd Beer, Moes & Williams Gellijams Fireworks At Cwmdarhian, another lovely
shaded red, of stronger look, really liked her head which was of good balance &
strength, good strong underjaw & scissor bite, ears of good shape & placed well,
neck blending well into her well laid shoulders, good return, wrap around front,
good well sprung ribcage, firm body which I thought a fraction longer than 1,
nicely angled quarters used to advantage on the move with free driving action.
3rd Mason’s Marvale Crimson Sunbird At Teckeltown
Open Bitch (8 Entries) Abs: 2
1st Mason’s Teckeltown The Show Girl aptly named red very pleasing for size &
for me displayed so many good qualities here today; conical head of strength but
so feminine with good scissor bite, felt that nice little arch to her neck which
flowed into correctly placed shoulders, good return, good top line & excelled on
the move, has compact feet of good size, pleasing in head shape with good bite,
well set eye, excellent length of neck flowing into correctly laid shoulders,
enough body from her ribcage, wrap around front & another that viewed in profile
displayed the forelegs covering the lowest point of the breast bone, stood on
her legs very well which were angled sufficiently, shown in excellent condition
she strode out with good reach in front, rear drive from well set hocks which
were firm & gave off parallel movement. Handling & presentation was first class

CC
2nd Fleming’s Brogansian Gingerella very attractive red, compact & nicely sized
& was another who displayed so many of the breed characteristics very well,
balanced throughout and was of good construction, this one was litter sister to
the dog Res. CC and this breeder/exhibitor must be proud to produce such a nice
type, and rightly so today won the Res.
