Many thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge mini smooths at this lovely show. I had a numerically strong entry, and I thank all the exhibitors for entering. A few general comments about the breed that I saw in the entry today and I hope will be taken in the constructive manner in which they are meant. Some had dirty teeth, and this not only is unpleasant but is a welfare concern for the dogs, I appreciate not all of them like having their teeth cleaned but it’s best to train them from being young to accept it before receding gums and dental disease sets in. Quite a few lacked the correct angulation fore and aft that would allow these dogs to go to ground, they should have a well laid shoulder, equal length of upper arm to shoulder blade with the correct wrap around front. The rear angulation should also be sufficient (but not over done) to allow the back end to be the driving force and help them both go to ground and get out again. Yes, some dogs sink when stacked but this is often the dogs with the correct hind angulation, and they certainly tended to have more drive behind than the ones that had less hind angulation. Some did lack muscle, and care should be taken to ensure these dogs are kept fit and in hard condition.

Having said that I was very pleased with my line ups that clearly showed the type I was looking for that I believe is correct.

Veteran - Entries: 6 Absentees: 1

1. Ch Siouxline Rapunzel with Melriding (Mrs S M Ergis) – 11-year-old red bitch of such an excellent type. Beautiful head with clean strong teeth, good length of neck leading into very well angulated shoulders and good length of upper arm. Good ribbing extending well back and a short loin. Correctly angled rear which she uses to well on the move. Parallel action and good reach and drive in profile. This lovely bitch can really show the youngsters how to move and despite her advancing years is as fit as they come.

2. Duddondaxs Judge Jude for Jenivon (Mrs J Jennings) – 9yr old red dog, elegant with a good head, lengthy neck, very good shoulders and length of upper arm. Ok rear. Moves soundly with good front reach.

3. Joshottos Orange Blossom (Miss A J Butterstone)

Minor Puppy Dog - Entries: 3 Absentees: 1

1. Amaffrey Sirius Black (Mrs A J Bullis) – 6m B/T with tons of promise. Really lovely head, elegant neck leading into good shoulders with good return of upper arm. Decent ribbing, good hind angulation. Excellent ground clearance. So good on move for age.

2. Swingletrees Harlequin by Lindella's (Mrs P Hughes)- B/T Brindle 8 month with an excellent head, a little short in neck, ok shoulders but needs a longer upper arm. Could have better ribbing. Balanced rear angulation. Good size. Moved soundly.

Puppy Dog - Entries: 4 Absentees: 1

1. Rijobeau Well I Never (Mr J Tite) – 8m B/T of an excellent size, would prefer slightly more foreface but head is conical and he has a good length of neck, excellent shoulders with good return of upper arm, good ribbing, well angulated rear. Moves true with good reach and drive. Smart little dog who has tons of promise. BPD

2. Stargang Rusty Nail at Jenivon (Mrs J Jennings) – Lovely 8m red dog with a super temperament. Good ground clearance, excellent head and length of neck, adequate front and rear angulation, moves out well covering the ground, slightly high set tail that he is very proud of which detracts from his outline at times.

3. Stargang Morrissey for Devondax (Miss K Small)

Junior Dog - Entries: 3 Absentees: 0

All were a little low to ground for me in this class

1. Stargang Whiskey Mac (Miss L Andison) – 11m red brindle, gorgeous head and neck, good shoulder and good length of upper arm. Ribbing could extend further back, good rear. Moved true with good reach and drive in profile

2. Jenivon's Alexandra of Earldax (Miss C Cato) – 14m B/T masculine head, good length of neck, decent shoulder but needs a longer upper arm. Ribbing could be longer. Good rear. Moved soundly with some drive.

3. Spring Forn Restinim (Mrs P Hughes)

Yearling Dog - Entries: 6 Absentees: 1

1. Ch Bronia Daimmen (Mrs F Hanney-Mitchell) – 20m B/T with an attractive head, good length of neck leading into well angulated shoulders and good upper arm. Decent ribbing, good rear angulation. Would prefer slightly more ground clearance but moves so soundly with good reach and drive.

2. Llennocor Little Red Devil (Mr J Tite) – Excellent sized red with a fine head, good length of neck, balanced fore and aft angulation, compact body with good ribbing. Moved soundly but would like more reach and drive in profile

3. Bronia Lucien (Mr M J & Mr G J Paget & Carroll)

Post Graduate Dog - Entries: 4 Absentees: 1

1. Clentry Desperado (Miss L Andison) – 20m B/T elegant dog with an excellent head and neck, good shoulder angulation, lengthy ribbing, good rear, moved parallel coming and going with good reach and drive in profile.

2. Mighty Marvin at Littlelibbs (Miss S, Miss N & Mr L Walker & Wiltshire) – Lovely head on this dog with a good length of neck, decent front assembly, better ribbing than 3rd. Tended to toe in behind on the move. Would like more ground clearance.

3. Kleinstar Moongazer (Mrs E M Reynolds)

Limit Dog - Entries: 8 Absentees: 0

1. Bronia Gabriel for Wakywilks JW (Miss C & Mr A Wilkinson & Wakeham) – Such a smart red dog of good size, excellent head, good length of neck leading into well angulated shoulders, decent ribbing, compact body, very good rear. So sound on the move with parallel action and plenty of reach and drive. This dog really impressed me for his overall package, and I couldn’t deny him the CC, a first for dog and owner and I really hope his others follow quickly.

2. Bronia Gustav of Melriding (Mrs D A, Messrs M & G Melbourne, Paget & Carroll) – Litter brother to 1st and similar comments apply, he has an excellent head, good length of neck, just felt he was slightly heavy over his shoulders and would like a bit more ground clearance. Moves so well with good reach and drive.

3. Scenterbay Rafael for Ruichango (Miss M Corominas)

Open Dog - Entries: 3 Absentees: 0

3 lovely male champions in this class and 3 totally different types, all three had different virtues and faults and compromises had to be made.

1. Ch Melriding Black Tom (Mrs D A, Messrs M & G Melbourne, Paget & Carroll) – B/T Brindle 2yr old dog who has a really lovely head and neck, good shoulders with decent upper arm, lengthy ribbing. Good rear which he uses well on the move. Sound and true coming and going and good reach and drive in profile. Doesn’t always make the most of himself on the stack and gives his handler a hard time but his good movement and lovely head and neck won him this class and the RCC

2. Ch Rijobeau Rumours with Llennocor JW (Mr R & Mrs A O'connell) – Elegant male with a good length of neck, very good shoulder, good return of upper arm and excellent ground clearance, balanced rear. I would prefer slightly more length to his foreface, but his head is conical with a good eye. Looked lovely in profile but tending to pull away from his handler a bit on the up and down which meant he wasn’t quite as true going away as 1st.

3. Ch Cwmdarhian Joe Calzghe (Mrs R & Mr C Williams & Moes)

Minor Puppy Bitch - Entries: 11 Absentees: 2

1. Naisha Crespalia Bronia (Imp Esp) (Mrs F Hanney-Mitchell) – Loved this precocious 8m old red bitch, gorgeous head and neck leading into excellent shoulders and good upper arm, excellent ground clearance. Lengthy ribbing, good rear. Rather exuberant on the move, super in profile, just a touch untidy behind at times, mainly due to her lashing tail. Very close up in the challenge for the RCC but was just too excited to settle in rear. I am sure she has a very bright future ahead of her. BPIB.

2. Siouxline Elsa Marie (Mrs S M Ergis) – Very elegant B/T who was equally lovely, beautiful head and neck, excellent shoulders and good ribbing. Very good rear. Sound on the move with good reach and drive, she is slightly too long in body for me, but I am sure she also has a very bright future.

3. Africandawns Savage Lilly (Mr L J Cross)

Puppy Bitch - Entries: 6 Absentees: 3

1. Ravenwood Bootylicious (Mr T & Mrs G Robertson) – Red of a good type with a good head, decent length of neck leading into adequate shoulders. Ribbing could be longer. Balanced rear. Moved soundly.

2. Chocobrandy’s Dream Girl (Mrs Cl Johnson) – Elegant B/T with an excellent head. Good length of neck, good shoulders. Ribbing ok. Movement needs to settle.

3. Rijobeau Pandora Boxx TAF (Miss T Somerton)

Junior Bitch - Entries: 7 Absentees: 2

1. Jenivon's Lady Lush (Mrs J Jennings) – B/T elegant bitch with a good head. Excellent length of neck, good shoulders, ribbing could be longer. Balanced rear. Very good ground clearance. Moved well with good reach in front.

2. Amaffrey Cat Balou (Mrs A J Bullis) – Another B/T elegant bitch with a lovely head and neck, excellent shoulders, good ribbing. Balanced rear. Moved true coming and going but would like a bit more reach and drive in profile.

3. Ruletadax Queen of Hearts for Penjulai (Miss N Sommers)

Yearling Bitch - Entries: 10 Absentees: 3

1. Bronia Blayze (Mrs F Hanney-Mitchell) – Red compact bitch with a lovely head, good length of neckm very good front assembly, excellent ribbing. Good rear. Has sound true movement with good reach and drive and a super attitude which demands attention.

2. Melriding Silver Spangle (Mrs D A, Messrs M & G Melbourne, Paget & Carroll) – Silver dapple of a good type, excellent head and length of neck, good shoulders but a bit too low to ground for me. Plenty of prosternum. Good ribbing, balanced rear. Moves soundly with drive.

3. Glynlythe's Heirloom for Devondax JW (Miss K Small)

Post Graduate Bitch - Entries: 9 Absentees: 4

1. Judy Rainbow over Penjulai (Miss N Sommers) – C/T bitch with a compact body, head is conical, good length of neck, well laid shoulders but short in upper arm. Good ribbing, balanced rear. Good ground clearance. Best mover in this class.

2. Bronia's Azzurra for Wakywilks (Miss C & Mr A Wilkinson & Wakeham) – B/T, preferred the size of this bitch, good head, good shoulders, bit low to ground for me. Balanced rear. Moved soundly.

3. Andeysson Cape Verde (Mrs S Coote)

Limit Bitch - Entries: 7 Absentees: 4

1. Rijobeau Rita Bix with Llennocor (Mr R & Mrs A O'connell) – B/T of an excellent size, good head but would prefer more foreface, excellent length of neck, very good shoulders, good ribbing extending well back. Good well angulated rear. Moved soundly with good reach and drive.

2. Gellijams Fireworks at Cwmdarhian (Mrs N & Mrs R & Mr C Beer & William & Moes) – Elegant red with an excellent head, good shoulder angulation, a touch long in body for me. Good rear. Moved well. Preferred the size of 1st.

3. Lois Lane Cheky's Hojanmit (Imp Fca) (Miss K Small)

Open Bitch - Entries: 6 Absentees: 0

A really lovely class to judge, topped by 2 beautiful bitches from the top drawer.

1. CH Riverbrue Juniper Berry (Mr B A & Miss A & Mr G & Mr M Crocker & Frost & Carroll & Paget) – This elegant red was just what I was looking for, beautiful head, lengthy neck, excellent front construction, long ribbing, very good rear. Correct ground clearance which means she is a joy to watch on the move with her long effortless strides. So very sound and excellent reach and drive, in hard condition and clearly loves the ring. An outstanding bitch. CC & BOB

2. Lokmadi with A Dragon Tattoo (Mr J & Mr R & Mrs A Magri & O’connell & O’connell) – Another beautiful bitch, red brindle and could easily have handed her a CC today, lovely head, correct length of neck, such good shoulders and lengthy ribbing, short strong loin, excellent rear. Super sound on the move and good reach and drive in profile. She really impressed me and pushed hard all the way. RCC

3. Jenivons Miss Marple (Mrs J Jennings)
