Thankyou to the Secretary and the officers of the Miniature Dachshund Club, for inviting me to judge Miniature Smoothhaired Dachshunds at their show.

Thank you also to my very efficient steward Mr Paul Hayes, who kept the ring running smoothly at all times.

Also a big thankyou to the to the exhibitors , (without them there wouldn’t be a show at all), for entrusting me to judge their dogs in a fair and knowledgeable way, and it was lovely to hear clapping at the rinside..maybe I got it right!?

I really enjoyed my day with some lovely dogs to assess.

The breed I think overall is in a reasonable space, there are faults, of. course there are, heads could improve…too short in the muzzle, and better eye shape needed in some, also hind action is a problem in many, with pinning in and little hind drive, a hound needs forward reach too not seen in many.

Size too is becoming a real problem with no scales to highlight this, two or three ounces for me isn’t a problem but some are very obviously exceeding this by far, if this is not addressed soon we will be having a medium type dachshund, please don’t let this happen, let’s keep our miniatures….as miniatures!

On a positive note… and there is….and has to be positives, to give encouragement to new comers in the breed.Temperaments were good, teeth were all with the correct scissor bite, and what pleased me on the whole they were clean, many with correct fronts..Toplines are good as were feet,with short nails.Just one tail had a knot.

I am sure breeders are aware…you will never breed a faultless dog, but to remember when breeding, never double up on a fault.

I was delighted with my principle winners…My Congratulations to them.

VD 1st Phillips Stargang High Hopes of Robinswood, Red dog of 11 years, looking good for his age, a credit to his owner, Sound in front with tight elbows, good length of neck and ribbing, well let down quarters , kept a good top line on the move.

1 st Kirkwood- Emery. Marvale Royal Salute at Helydon. Elegant bt baby of 9 months, showing much promise. Lovely head..correct in front, long neck into good shoulder placement. Good length of ribbing, well let down behind. Positive and sound on the move. 2 nd Marvale Salute the Crown with Ravenwood.Chunkier type than one and lower to ground, same attributes as one, I prefered the ground clearance of one, but two very nice puppies I see are litter brothers, congrats to the breeder.

Hiskett Llenocor Stop and Stare with Simorepaw Aw (s) Very sound baby of almost 12 months…Very good front, tight elbows, elegant neck, with good shoulder placement and ribbing, well angled hind quarters moved freely keeping a good top line , should have a bright future . BPD

JD 2. 1st, Bullis.Amaffrey Sirius Black. So much to like about this young dog,lovely head ,prominent front, with tight elbows,long neck into good shoulder placement , well rounded quarters , stands four square ,moved out well.

2nd.Robertson Marvale Cuckoo at Ravonwood. Lots to like about this brindle boy, lovely head, elegant neck and shoulders,not quite as sound on the move as one, rather unsettled,which spoilt his outline today.

YD 3, 1st Cato. Jenivon’ Alexandra of Eardax, BT with super sound front and tight elbows,long neck into good shoulders and ribbing, strong quarters he used well on the move, keeping a firm top line.

2 nd Parr. Stargang Rusty Nail. Red …giving a lovely elegant outline nice bunchy feet., has a strong head, good length of neck, ok for ribbing, not as together on the move as one.

3rd Metcalf- Bilgin..Metadale Secret Alliance.

PGD 4/1 1st Reynolds Kleinstar Moongazer,elegant red with a lovely head, prominent in front, long neck good shoulder and ribbing, well rounded quarters, which he used well on the move.

2 nd Walker and Wiltshire. Mighty Martin at Littlelibbs. A real toss up between first and second here, I just prefered the front movement of one. Bt with lots to like, with the same attributes as one. Moved out well. 3 rd Reynolds Kleinstar Blue Moon.

LD 11/6 1st Tites Rijobeau Well I Never. Super stunning BT…. of the correct size…very balanced outline .with good bone and feet. Sound in front with tight elbows. Long neck into very good shoulders, and ribbing, well rounded quarters , standing four square on straight strong neat hocks. Moved out in stylish purposeful fashion with good hind extension and commanding head carriage, keeping a strong top line . CC his 2 nd and BOB. RBIS…

2nd Gittins Boomerloo’s Robin. Another very sound BT with a super front with tight elbows, good length of neck, good lay of shoulder, well let down behind,on strong well made quarters, moved out well, I just prefered the commanding ring presence and overall balance of one.

1 st Corominas. CH Scenterbay Rafael for Ruichango JW. So much to like about this red dog…who is of different type to one with a larger build, has excellent bone and substance . Lovely proud head, sound prominent front , tight elbows, elegant neck running into very good shoulders. Well muscled rear, he moved effortlessly around the ring with good forward reach and drive from behind. Pushing hard for the cc in the challenge Res CC.

2 nd Coxons CH D’arisca Dinner at Eight. Top quality bt, super head and eye, Prominent front, tight elbows,long neck and ribbing , well rounded quarters, and sound hind movement, keeping a good top line.

3 rd. Cross and Blacks Ch Riowood Red Boots.

1 st Ergis Ch Siouxline Rapunzel with Melriding. 12 years old this beautiful red girl is a credit to her owner, clean teeth! I can’t say more than what has been said many times before about her. A super quality veteran hound to be proud of,she moved around the ring still with style and elegance, what a star she is! BV and BVIS

2 nd Rose. Pennydac Mystique at Rosencrantz. 8 years old Lovely up to size bt with Super head , sound front and well placed shoulders. She moved out well on her well angled rear, and lovely out going temperement.A lovely veteran. BVIS 3rd.Taverner Pigglefairy Magic.

MPB7/5 1 st Hutchins Teckeltowns Kelby Springs into Collidach. Red baby of quality, she just oozes it! Substance with elegance my notes say. Super head and eye, good feet and bone, sound front with tight elbows, elegant neck going into good shoulders, ribbing well back,chunky rounded quarters, she filled my eye with her positive sound movement, hind drive and forward reach …I couldn’t deny her the res CC in the challenge…BP res CCand BPIS

2nd Lowwood- Price..Marvale Royal Procession at Alpezia. Unlucky to meet one, I liked this bt girl, she has a balanced outline with lovely head, sound in front , good shoulder and ribbing,well angled chunky quarters , kept her top line..moving well.

3 rd Teckletowns Power of Love.

2 nd Coxons Fascinating Rhythm, Another quality puppy from this very well known kennel,bt in gleaming condition,Super head , very sound front construction with tight elbows,elegant neck flowing into good shoulder and ribbing, well let down behind, sound easy movement, with strong top line , these two puppies will change places for sure at future shows, I just prefered the overall balance of one.

JB 6/1 1 st Small, Marvale Golden Oriole for Devondax JW. Elegant red girl , with lovely head, and dark eye, long neck into well placed shoulder, very good ribbing, well angled quarters which she used well on the move ,keeping a good outline.

2 nd Bullis.. Amaffrey Lun Lovgood, Another very nice red girl, with tight elbows and long neck,going into well placed shoulders, ribbing well back,well round well let down quarters.

Moved well.

3 rd Bosworth Bronia Solange at Louromi JW.

YB 5 1st Metcalf-Bigin..Metadale Legacy of Love,..Attractive well balanced red, sound front construction tight elbows, Strong neck into well placed shoulders, strong muscled quarters,super strong mover with hind drive, keeping her top line .

2 nd Barr, Bronia Annetta at Lowoods. Another nice Red, lovely head prominent front, good in shoulder with reasonable ribbing, strong quarters, moved well.

3 rd Stargang Silk Stockings.

PGB 15/3 1 st Ergis Siouxline Elsa Marie JW, Very typy bt from this well known breeder, lovely head very sound construction throughout, enough bone for her size, lovely feet. Excellent hind angles and firm quarters, enabled her to move so well around the ring. My preference would be for a little more ground clearance , but a lovely girl.

2 nd Mason, Marvale Golden Plover,Red of lovely type, and well constructed through, prominent front, strong neck, good shoulder and ribbing, strong well let down quarters. Moved well.

3 rd Amaffrey Cat Balou.

LB 14/11. 1st Mason Teckletown The Showgirl, Red Girl with a lovely head, prominent front and tight elbows,strong elegant neck and well placed shoulder, well angled rear, used well on the move with a good driving action.

2 nd Roberts and Smith,Rozamie Magic Moments, Another elegant red girl, with sound construction through, elegant neck, with good shoulder, enough ribbing, kept her outline well on the move keeping a good top line.

3 rd Marvale Rosefinch at Helydon.

OB 8/7 1st Coxen, Ch D’Arisca, Little Black Dress. Beautiful elegant bt of 6 years, in gleaming condition , super head, good feet, prominent front tight elbows,long elegant neck into correct shoulders, ribbing well back,well angulated rear which she used well on the move. A very worthy Champion. CC

2 nd O,Connell. CH Rijobeau Rita Bix with Llennocor .Another very worthy

Champion….Super Quality bt so well balanced, sound in front with tight elbows, strong neck into sound ribbing and strong rear, with good rear drive.

Splitting hairs here, just prefered the absolute feminine elegance of one.
