Dachshund (Miniature Long Haired)

Judge: Martin Sanders

DACHSHUND - MINIATURE-LONGHAIRED

First and foremost, thank you for a splendid entry. The last time I judged your variety was 1998 SKC, almost a four year gap, so on the day I looked forward to this entry with an open mind. I do not intend to criticise any individuals, you all pay your entry fee and you all deserved the same amount of attention, whether you agree or not, it’s only one judge’s opinion on the day, you paid for it and I honestly gave it. As in 1998, on the day I found heads differ enormously, round skulls, short foreface, lack of underjaw is certainly not a conical head, fronts too still need attention, elbows protruding, bowed forelegs and turned out front feet, not a pretty sight no matter how much coat you have. If you look and feel properly they are there in abundance. Hindquarters in general were ok, but I did find the odd one or two with no bend of stifle and too long in the hock, and finally a cause of concern, I found at least four roach backs, easy to miss with a coated breed! But it’s not all doom and gloom. In my opinion my CC winners and RCC winners were of top quality and possessed all the breed attributes that are required and also my class winners deserved their first place and equally there was some close decisions in many classes.

PD (8) 1 Lockett’s Ralines Royal Statesman. A super boy who headed a good class, absolutely gorgeous head of correct conical shape, excellent eye, very good neck and shoulders with elbows kept tight in well filled front, very good ribbing and topline, excellent bend of stifle leading to short parallel hocks, he stands on good bone with neat well padded feet, he really did come into his own, on the move excellent rear drive with good reach up front, very true coming towards you, presented in excellent order. I did think just for a moment, hold up its only puppy, but at the end of the day he has everything, he should have a bright future. In the end I could not deny him the CC. Many congratulations. 2 Graham’s Jadag Brookbond. Another smart young chap and close up to the winner, lots to like about him, good head and eye, very good ribbing, excellent length and good topline, moved well from the rear but was just coming towards me a little too close. Will have his day I’m sure. 3 Cooper’s Gayville’s Northern Lad At Jumanda.

JD (6) 1 Brooks’ Rhinestar Pheonix At Lyndarlea. A fair headed dog with good eye, good topline, ribs ok, moved well enough to win this class. 2 Welton’s Chelane King Of The Castle. 3 Leggett’s Chriskim Vanilla Ice Of Sonsrymes.

ND (4) 1 Cooper’s Gayville’s Northern Lad At Jumanda. Third in good PD class. Good head and eye, ribs ok, level topline, good quarters, moved ok both ways, well presented, won this class with a bit to spare. 2 Welton’s Chelane King Of The Castle. 3 Le Page’s Rafthouse Hot Dream Avec Thelepees.

PGD (8) 1 Farmer’s Jenwood Fields Of Gold. A lovely headed dog with correct eye, long neck and good shoulders, excellent ribbing which was carried well back, level topline with good tailset, well bent stifle leading to parallel hocks, moved with good rear drive and true up front, well presented in good coat and condition. 2 Boyle’s Zarcrest Gold Highwayman. Another good exhibit, masculine head with good eye, excellent ribbing and topline, very good quarters, good rear drive but not as positive in front as the winner, close up. 3 Brooks’ Maundown Mutineer At Lundarlea.

LD (12) 1 A good class headed by 1 Jamieson’s Airwaves To Carlang Via Djeata. A quality dog throughout, excellent head and eye, good length of neck flowing into good layback of shoulder, very good ribbing which was carried well back, level topline and good quarters, presented in excellent condition, on the move he drove well from the rear giving off a lovely profile, on the day though when stacked he tended to knuckle over. 2 Croxford’s Arbroath Mr Mackinnon, JW. Another quality exhibit, lots to like about him, scores in head and eye, good bone and feet, moved well both ways, close up. 3 Brooks’ Quinrutec Half Day At Lyndarlea.

Lovely exhibit, totally balanced throughout, good head and eye, excellent length of neck, good layback of shoulder and length of upper arm, excellent ribbing which was carried well back, correct topline leading to good quarters, moved with positive rear drive and good extension up front, as usual presented in first class order today, awarded the RCC, will gain his crown I’m sure. 2 Holmes’ Ch/Ir Ch Tammera Top Gun. Pushed hard for top spot, a lovely exhibit, quality throughout, good head and eye, well ribbed, good topline, moved well both ways, presented in first class order. 3 Hammond’s Ch Glenmorris Hi Teck. Completing a trio of lovely dogs.

Vet D (1) 1 Duchesene’s Scandell Talking Pages. Stood alone but deserved his place, good head and eye, excellent neck, good length of body and still moving well, put down in good order.

PB (14) A lovely class with some potentially good youngsters on view, pity there was not a MP class, some babies had to go cardless due to immaturity, promising for the future though. 1 Boyle’s Zarcrest Gold Designer. Mature young lady of obvious quality, fair in head, excellent neck and shoulders, very good ribbing which was carried well back, level topline leading to good tailset, good bend of stifle leading to short parallel hocks, very good bone with neat feet, moved with excellent rear drive and forward reach, presented in good coat and condition, will go on to bigger things I hope. 2 Wallace’s Cheslan Reethi Rah. Yet another good exhibit and close up to the winner, well developed body, good neck, excellent ribbing, level topline, good angulated quarters, moved ok, well presented. 3 Norton’s Hallunke Miss Elanor.

JB (10) 1 Duchesne’s Scandell Ring Of Dreams. Feminine in head, good eye, fair length of neck, good shoulders, a well balanced b throughout, good bone and feet, moving ok. 2 Amos’ Dacatec Pure N Simple. NB (3) 1 Welton’s Chelane Reach For The Stars. Fourth in J, a pretty b, feminine in head, good topline, ribbing ok, well presented and moved ok. 2 Le Page’s Thelepees Miraculace Shock. Did not have the head qualities of the winner, but did have good length, ribbing ok, shown in good coat.

PGB (13) Good class. 1 Young’s Willowheath Sweet Almond. Feminine in head of correct conical shape, good eye, length of neck, topline good leading to correct tailset, well bent stifles leading to short parallel hocks, presented in good coat and moved ok. 2 Winchurch’s Zarcrest Gold Haymaker For Brianolf. A good bitch with overall correct balance, feminine in head with good eye, well ribbed, good topline and quarters, moved with drive, on the day just not in full coat but will change places for sure. 3 Marshall’s Cagebrook Moon Dance.

LB (9) 1 Collins’ Ambermist Crepe Suzette. A bitch of obvious quality throughout, ultra feminine in head, good eye, long neck leading into good layback of shoulder, elbows kept well in, excellent ribbing carried well back, good topline and tailset, very good angulated quarters with short parallel hocks, has good bone and neat feet, on the move drove with good rear drive and forward reach up front, a pleasing outline indeed. Presented in excellent coat and condition, pleased on the day to award her the Res CC and I do hope that in the future that she is not overlooked too often, she does deserve recognition! 2 Butler’s Drymoor Secret Delight. Yet another quality bitch, has many good breed points to admire, feminine head, good eye, neck and shoulders, excellent ribbing, good topline and quarters, put down in lovely coat and condition and moving ok. 3 Norton’s Halunke First Lady.

A worthy Champion for sure, excellent balance and shape, correct in head and eye, good neck, ribbing and topline, very sound on the move but not in her best jacket today. 3 Worswick’s Dolyharp Flower Song. JW.

Vet B (2) 1 McLean’s Ch Maxwin Ice In The Sun. At 8 years old, for me she simply made my day, a bitch of the highest order, classic head piece of the correct conical shape, lovely eye, neck and shoulders, excellent ribbing, good topline and super quarters, good front with elbows kept in at all times, stands on excellent well padded feet, presented in first class order but its not really until this bitch sets off around the ring that she really does come into her own, still driving well from the rear and good forward reach up front, keeping her outline at all times. I had no hesitation in awarding her the CC and finally at the end of the day, BOB. Many congratulations, may she continue and why not in this form!. 2 Butler’s Harrimond Bonnie Delight Of Drymoor. A decent bitch throughout, feminine in head, good length of body, presented in good condition, moved ok.
