Lancashire & Cheshire Dachshund Ass 2002

Dachshund (Miniature Long Haired)

Judge : Nina Pryde

It is a while since I was ringside so all dogs were new to me. Delighted to find the progeny of my previous CC winners taking top spots on the day and was really impressed with my winners. It was a pleasure to hear after the event how families figured in my results. I had to split hairs quite often which is always difficult. In the main presentation was good. Now for the bit you don’t want to read and my comments are offered in the spirit of constructive criticism. There were some thin dogs. My view remains if you have to starve the dog, don’t show it. There was one suspect temperament which is one too many. Elbows are still in fashion. Some exhibitors persisit in pushing front legs together thus displaying a fine pair of elbows. Some dogs did not have loose elbows but others did not when the stance was corrected. However exhibitors promptly came behind me forcing the legs together again. A quite abnormal stance. Far more worrying in some animals was short ribbing and in a few cases keels stopped abruptly between the front legs thus affording no protection whatsoever to the vital organs within the chest cavity. If you think this is correct conformation please read your Sayer’s, study the skeletal diagram and apply what you read to your dogs. Finally a pretty head won’t win honours if it isn’t a top a good example of the breed. A houndy heavy head on a well structured frame will win every time - or should do. These are hounds, not toys. I think we could be in danger of losing out way in this respect. There are good sires around, ask questions of the diehard breeders and good luck for the future.

MPD. (3). 1. Illidge’s, Paradachs Dream Come True. Well built red. Good length and ribbing. Nice head and eye. True mover. Needs a little time to settle. 2. Hayes’s, Dolyharp Swansong for Dialhouse. B/t baby. Shade longer than first.

PD. (7). 1. Norton’s, Halunke Mister Baggins. I really liked this dog. Red with excellent head and dark eye. Good front, ribbing and body. Stood four square. Happy mover. Loads of ring presence. Litter brother to Best Puppy and another sister placed in the bitch class so must have been a nice litter. 2. Lockett’s, Ralines Dumbledore. Very nice shaed cream, excellent head and eye. Not so steady on movement as first, at the moment. 3. Croxford’s, Sandwell’s, Cardinal at Arbroath.

JD. (5). 1. Harrison’s, Lacerking Jack Pot. Masculine b/t good hound head, eye and outline. Well muscled body and strong true mover. Another who demanded attention. I forgave his coat misbehaving on the day and he impressed me sufficiently to take the RCC. 2. Welton’s, Chelane King of the Castle. Smaller red. Nice type with loads to like. Good in all essentials. Moved well. 3. Vine’s, Solent Breeze from Chiselvine.

PGD. (6). 1. Brook’s, Maundowne Mutineer at Lyndarlea. B/t with excellent front, length of neck and good head. Well muscled rear and good mover. Presented in tiptop condition. 2. Mee’s, Barlaine’s Crusader. B/t heavier type than first. Good in all respects. 3. Nottingham’s, Crestwar Dark Shadow.

LD. (8). 1. Poole’s, Findowrie Sir George. Masculine cream, good length and ribbing. Well muscled, covered the ground well. I liked his sire years ago. Pleased to see his progeny doing well. 2. Illidge’s, Paradachs Dream Machine. Shaded red, good head. Length of neck and dark eye. Free mover. 3. Holmes’s, Tammare Take a Chance.

OD. (11). 1. Lockett’s, Ch. Ralines Royal Statesman. Super b/t. Excellent type with sturdy body, masculine head, dark eye and a well muscled rear. My notes were full of stars for this dog in all departments. Presented in the best of nick. His dam has had top honours from me in the past and this son is following in her footsteps. CC and BOB and delighted to hear he went. RBIS. 2. Hall’s, Gayvilles Northern Classic. Another I liked very much. Good head, eye and ribbing. Solid body and four good feet. Good free mover and excellent temperament. 3. Jamieson’s, Airwaves to Carlong via Djeata.

MPB. (5). 1. Vine’s, Chiselvine Tuscan Dream. Feminine b/t, excellent length, body and head. Good free mover. A really nice bitch. 2. Collin’s, Ambermist Sweet ‘n’ Sour. S/red. Very good head and eye. Good front assembly. Good outline and she moved very well. 3. Johnson’s, Miss Angelica.

PB. (7). 1. Norton’s, Halunke Miss Elanor. S/red. Feminine head, good dark eye. Excellent front, sturdy body and well angulated behind. Again, four good feet and a sound true mover. Took on her litter brother for Best Puppy. Little to separate them, but the lady took the prize on the day. Best Puppy. 2. Tomlinson’s, Jadag Wild Heather to Winglow. S/red. Another with good dark eye, well built front and body. 3. Johnson’s, Halunke Miss Angelica.

JB. (6). 1. Buchan’s, Oakboro Debonair. Excellent b/tan, feminine head, good eye and body with well angulated hindquarters. Moved with drive. 2. Welton’s, Chelane Reach for the Stars. S/red and another with the above attributes, little to separate them. I expect both to make thier marks in the ring. 3. Collins’, Ambermist Midnight Diamond. NB. (3). 1. Mack’s, Topgem Susie. Reserve in previous class and gave a lot away in that company. 2. Holmes’s, Lyrosh Ab Fab from Tammera. A shade thin at present but a lot of growing up to do. 3. Hartley’s, Lyrosh Petite Fleur.

PGB. (12). 1. Vine’s, Chiselvine Silver Spark. S/dapple. Excellent head, good dark eye. Firm body, a very good type and true mover. 2. Townsend’s, Regendach’s Royal Affair at Dachstown. S/red little lady. Good in all respects. Moved with drive. 3. Lockett’s, Ralines Royal Celebration.

LB. (1). 1. Lamb’s, Howrigg Tar Baby. Super b/tan. Nice size, my notes gave her three stars for head, build and movement and a further one for overall excellence. Pleased to award her the RCC. 2. Illidge’s, Paradachs Silver Sixpence. S/dapple and another nice one. She struck me as good all over and she also moved well. 3. Collins’, Ambermist Crepe Suzette.

OB. (8). 1. Welton’s, Chelane Bewitched. B/tan. Feminine bitch. Nice size, good head, dark eye. Excellent body, put down in gleaming condition. Moved fluently and with confidence. She had everything I was looking for and I was pleased to award her the CC. Her second I belive, and the third should not be too far away. Good luck. 2. Harrison’s, Denver Definitely Maybe at Lacerking. Heavier type. Good head and body and sound movement. 3. Geeson’s, Bronia Fleur de-Lys at Abydachs.
