MINIATURE LONG HAIRED DOGS

A judges worst nightmare, this is the only way I can sum up having to sort out the dogs that I had presented to me. Positively the worst appointment I have ever had to get through. Quality, what quality? Their really is none. The fact that my CC winner is nearly 7 years old and my RCC winner just 6 and a half months of age to me is very worrying indeed.

Several exhibits needed a good wash, teeth with tarter on seemed the norm, feet trimming was poor. Construction wise in general head shape is not consistant, from the toyish to the over exaggerated just like the American type which is too extreme for me. Eye shape is acceptable most have good dark pigmentation. Shoulders and general front construction leave a lot to be desired, sticking out elbows are evident in many with practically no upper arm, but most had good pro-sternums. Feet as usual are poor, ribbing in general is good. In most cases extending well back, even if they did lack some flesh. Toplines came in all makes and shapes, especially on the move.

Hindquarters, least said. No kinky tails on the day. Moving you should know by know I like to move them, was just incredible to see. I really don't know how many times I blinked. Flicking front feet seems to be creeping in, most probably due to weak pasterns. When seen moving away most looked as if they had wet themselves, with no drive or follow through. In profile 90% of the front and back action do not co-ordinate together. Leaving the total picture most undesirable. I really have thought so long and hard about this report, but this is what I saw, an appiontment that I would never want to face again. We all know it is harder to breed a good Mini than a standard, been there Done that, but please just look at the males in this lovely little breed and think very long and hard. Forget colour, put type and construction first. Good luck.

MPD. (9). This was a promising start. 1. Harrison's, Lacerking Jack Pot. 6 and a half months b/t. Such a baby that has type and soundness, even at this tender age. His head really appeals, has the old style houndy head and expression. Super eye shape, lovely and oval with the darkest of points. Correct ratio's from muzzle to skull. Ears of good length and correctly set. Well arched neck which he holds well on the move. Leading into well placed shoulders with good layback and angles, good forechest, tightest of feet. Excellent bone all through, well ribbed with firm topline and correct underline. Short loins leading into well angulated hind quarters, good turn of stfile with firm short neat little hocks. Tail is correctly set though tended to fly it which I forgave at this tender age. He is sound and precise coming and going clearly demonstrating the correct reach and follow through. He kept a super outline on the move and the more he went the more this young chap settled giving a beautiful overall picture. Presentation of the highest order. RCC and BP with the complete agreement of my co-judge. Mr. Len Mitchell with luck will have brighter things to come and should be a useful chap I would think. 2. Garman's, Zadophie Lunar Son. Another baby so typical, he has it all their, shade bigger mould than first. 7 months b/t very good head, clean head, clean neck leading into firm shoulders, good bone though needs to come up on his pastern's. Super ribbing extending well back, first class hind angulation. Hammy quarter's with neat short hocks. Moved steadily keeping a good outline, just needing to firm up all over. Most promising young man who was so well presented and handled. 3. Cooper's, Gayville's Northern Lad at Jumanda. Completing a trio of promising young men.

PD. (5). 1. Crawley's, Doujac Fine and Dandy. 10 months b/t schooled to perfection, presenting himself so well. Good head and expression, enough neck leading into well muscled forequarters, good fore chest though would like more width between front legs. Super ribbing with correct top and underlines, firm loins leading into well angulated hindquarters with good length of secong thigh. Tail is correctly set though has a tendency to fly it, toes in a touch coming towards but moves soundly going away. Looks good in profile keeping a good outline. So well presented and handled. 2. Palin's, Aslan Freedom Fighter at Sanmick. 10 months s/cr, taller type, but all in proportion. Very showy young man with a heavy coat, good head, plenty of neck. Shoulders still forward a touch. Super bone and feet, good ribbing that extends well back. Firm topline, lacks a touch in hind angulation but is balanced. Moves well in profile using neck and keeping his topline, toes in coming forward but moves correctly going away. So well presented. 3. Linstrom's, Choefait's Dickie Diamond.

JD. (7). 1. Boyle's, Zarcrest Gold Highwayman. Super type and has great length. 12 months s/r with most appealing head and expression that this variety has lost. Correct ratio's from muzzle to skull. Ear's well set and have good length, long well arched neck leading into correct shoulder placement. Good forechest and super tight bunched feet. So well ribbed with cast iron topline. Short loins leading into good firm hindquarters. Tail correctly set and carried at all times. Not in his best bib and tucker on the day and thought he could carry a little more weight. Obviously going through that teenage stage. Looks good in profile moving away so positively. Presented and handled to perfection. 2. Dutson's, Rossglen Riera Y Arago. 14 months type brindle. Good head, plenty of neck leading into very good shoulders. Nice tight elbows, good legs and feet, good ribbing with plenty of covering. Nicely angulated behind, tail correctly set and carried. Moves well coming and going. Just needs to open his gait more in profile. Well presented and handled. 3. Young's, Willowheath Del Boy.

ND. (5). 1. Cooper's, Gayvilles Northern Lad at Jumanda. third in the strong Minor Puppy class. Quality 6 months b/t. Super head and eye, grand neck leading into very well constructed fore quarters. Good legs and feet. Very good ribbing with correct top and underlines. Enough hind angulation. Moves soundly in front but needs to settle behind. Keeps a lovely outline in profile, giving a promising picture. In super coat and condition. 2. Brook's, Maundowne Mutineer at Lyndarlea. 15 months b/t. Beautifull type, head and eye ok. Enough neck, well muscled shoulders though a touch forward placed. Plenty of forechest, good body, legs and feet, firm topline. Hindquarters firm and well balanced with enough angulation. Moves soundly both ways, in profile keeps his outline but needs more reach and follow through. 3. Endo's, Coleacre Capitol Gold.

PG. (8). 1. Dutson's, Rossglen Reach for the Sky. Typy 18 months b/t. Good head and eye, enough neck, good shoulder's, super bone with excellent tightly bunched feet. Elbows nice and tight, good forechest, well ribbed with firm topline. Short loins leading into nicely angulated hind quarters. Tail correctly set. Moves quite precise coming and going and looks good in profile. Just didn't sparkle in the challenge. In good bloom and well presented. 2. Poole's, Findowrie Sir Gorege. Totally different in type. 2 years s/cr. Good head and expression though would like darker pigment. Enough neck leading into well developed front. Good bone through out. Prominent breast bone with plenty of width through front legs. Well ribbed with firm topline, would like a shade more in angulations behind though he is balanced. Tail is correctly set though he does have a tendency to fly it. Moves quite precise coming and going. Just needing to open his agit a shade more. So well handled. 3. Baron's, Sandwells D'Artagan.

LD. (12). 1. Dunn's, Ashridge Private Ryan. 2 years s/r that I found very difficult to fault except I would just like a shade more of him all round. He is so beautifully balanced and totally in proportion all through. Well balanced head, dark almond and totally in proportion all through. Well balanced head dark almond shaped eye with super pigment all through. He gives the impression that he is stuffy in neck but hands on confirm he has enough. Very good shoulder placement with super angles. Good upper arm and nice tight elbows. Good forechest and width between front legs. Good ribbing with correct top and underlines. Nicely angulated behind with short firm parallel hocks. Totally sound coming and going in profile has good reach and follow through from behind. Presented in super coat and condition, pushing hard in the challenge. Just wanted more of him. Looking at how he is bred I would say he should be a useful dog for both his pedigree and his size to some top size bitches. 2. Hammond's, Glemoris Hecktop. 3 years s/r in larger mold than winner which I liked. Stunning head and expression, correct ratio's from muzzle to skull, dark points and super elbows. Good legs with superb feet, tightly bunched and so well trimmed. Good ribbing with level topline. Tail set a touch high. In super coat and condition, looking a picture stacked. Moved with great umph on the move, though on the day just not as precice coming and going as first, so well handled. 3. Jamieson's, Airwaves to Carling via Djeata.

OD. (12). Really mixed class for open, different types makes and shapes. 1. Graham's, Ch. Jadag Bjorn Veeta. CC with no hesitation. Chocolate that has been around for some time now. No it's not my personal favourite of colours but I could not fault this dog. Especially on the performance he gave on the day. Very good head shape and super ears. Lovely arched neck leading into first class shoulders, correct angles, tight elbows and good upper arm. Tight feet, good forechest, enough width through out. Good ribbing with firm topline and good underlines with enough ground clearance. Short firm loins leading into well angulated hind quarters. Neat short hocks which he uses so well on the move. Ultra sound coming and going, looking super in profile keeping a perfect outline at all times. Moved at the correct speed, in lovely coat and condition. CC and BOB on the referee's decision who must have been so impressed with him as I was that he ended up a well deserved RBIS. Congratulations and on the days performance, keep him in the ring. 2. Stanbridge's, Vicarfay Wotzit all About at Wynnum. 3 years brindle of beautiful type. Appealing head and expression. Dark points all through, good eye shape, good length of neck which he held on the move. Good solid fore quarters throguh front legs, well ribbed with good firm topline, short loins leading into firm nicely constructed hind quarters. Tail well set and correctly carried, coming and going he is quite precise, but in profile he really opens his gait leaving the others standing and keping a lovely outline. This is how he got this placing. Beautifully presented and correctly handled. Pushed hard for the RCC, just preferring the overall chunkyness and width of the baby. 3. Turner's, Ch. Rafthouse Eye Jinks.

SBD (4). 1. Baron's, Sandwells D'Artagnan. 2 years taller type s/r. Good head shape although eye's a touch round. Great shape and length of ears. Enough neck, firm shoulders, good topline, ok behind, tail well set. Toes a touch coming towards but moves parallel moving away. Nicely presented. 2. O'Kelly's, Picklescott Yankee Doodle. 17 months s/r. Still needs time. Taller type and needs more confidence, toes in both ways. 3. Coalacre Capitol Gold.

VARIETIES. AV V (14). Some really good oldies here, all wearing their years so lightly. 1. Cooper and Steadman's, Ollyrue Fire at Will at Merry garth. 8 and a half years std long s/r in super condition. Totally balanced all through, good type built on clean flowing lines. Totally sound coming and going. Really strides out in profile with eagerness that is a joy to see. So well handled and presented. 2. Goodman's, Brianolf Legand. Another very handsome l/h. Belies his 10 years. Again in super condition, really moving out keeping a lovely outline. 3. Jesse's, S/H Rill Royal Falcon.

A.V.P. (10). 1. Turner's, S/H Meganhol Apocalypse Now Rafthouse. 7 months b/t teaming with quality, so well balanced with delightful temperament. 2. Sutton's, L/H Dolan Cupid Golden Dawn at Damai. 3. Morris's, Min W/H Junehouse Second by Bretarah.

O (11). 1. Voaden's, Min S/H Berrycourt Allicia. B/t bitch. Super type, so well balanced all through. Good mover, looks so good in profile keeping a wonderful outline. 2. Scutt's, S/H Bonavoir Kings Jester at Firestorm. 3. Latter's, W/H Terony Flo Jo at Speldax.

MINIATURE LONG-HAIRED

BITCHES
I saw a mix of some promising and some very poor exhibits. With the usual- I have found in this Breed - jutting out elbows and short to almost non-existent upper arms. I saw a couple exhibited in poor coat. Post Graduate class was the best of the bunch by far. I was pleased to find not one case of dirty teeth or runny eyes.

MP (17) 1. Welton's Chelane Reach For The Stars. Red. Promising, with firm stride and showing a level topline on the move. (Best puppy bitch) 2. Long's Sochorlong Star Of Rio with Joala. B&T. Lacking the bone of (1) and not the drive. I thought her a little close behind. 3. Graham's Jadag Froffy Coffy

P (10) 1. Amos' Dacatec Pure 'N' Simple. Nice length of upper arm and elbows well tucked in. Movement is sound and overall construction good. 2. Lindstrom's Choefait Double Diamond. On another day would have been better than (1) She has the correct laid shoulders, good forechest and angulation. For some reason she did not move well, hind movement of left leg the culprit, and I had to award second place. 3. Duchesne' Scandell's Ring Of Dreams.

J (14) One entry transferred to Open. 1. Palin's Sanmik's Poison Ivy. Red in good coat. Well balanced bitch especially on the move. Good spring of rib cage. Firm feet and good head with correct stop. 2. Richardson's Sirrondach Ebony Tamarind. Not the length of (1) but front OK. Moved a touch close behind both coming and going. 3.Young's Willowheath Sweet Almond.

N (8) 1. Young's Willowheath Nursery Rhyme. Correct head and bite. Nice red though feet not firm. 2. Alexander's Tredinas Stellata. B&T with very luxurious coat and potential for improvement but needs to overcome her shyness and stride out. 3. Jenson's Hilmar Dawn To Albaney.

PG (12) 1. Butler's Drymoor Secret Delight. Elegant and impressive exhibit who moved correctly, with great drive. Upper arm the same length as shoulder blade and body well muscled. Upper arm close to ribs, but moving freely. Well-rounded front. Topline level on the move and hind quarters correctly set. C.C. 2. Wood's Wildstar Wrather Royal. Another excellent exhibit of good construction, good length, short coupled and correct head and eye. Challenged (1) for the lead. 3. Worswick's Dolyharp Moon Melody.

L (15) 1. Worswick's Willowheath What A Charmer With Dolyharp. Dapple in excellent coat. Good oval front, with long rib cage. Moved cleanly. 2. Downes' Pendil Midnight Pursuit. B&T. Correct front. Movement not up to (1) and stride foreshortened. 3. Elworthy's Jamiespring Desert Song.

OD (7) 1. Turner's Lynbain Mintcake Bell At Ralines. Quality B&T. A pleasure to go over. Well rounded front, tight elbows with good length of upper arm. Length of body not as good as the CC winner but with evidence of a well muscled body. Rib cage well sprung and of the required length. R.C.C. 2. Mitchell's Bronia Belle Isla Of Darsoms B&T. Good head and eye. Shoulder placement satisfactory. Not the movement of (1) 3. Hall's Cliffmere Harmony.
